Lorna jumped when her father flew back to the wall. The man at the door walked in and bent down near her, telling her that she would be ok. She didn't have to say anything to him, because her mother came in behind her, and the man used his powers on her too! "MOM!" Lorna yelled, and ran forward but stopped after he put them on the couch. There was something frightening in how calm ad still he was. Putting his hat on the table and sitting there. Lorna ran to stand near her Mama, not sure what was happening. Her mother didn't once look at her, or acknowledge that Lorna was there. There was no worry for her daughter with the scary man here.
"What do you want?" Her mother said, and Lorna looked between the man and her mom. She wasn't a stupid kid, she knew her mother wouldn't protect her. She had to protect herself. Still, her mother was all she had so she was going to protect her if she could. The last thing she wanted was to be alone. "Is this your mutant?" Her Dad asked, and her Mom just glared.
The scary man was a mutant! They didn't like mutants here. They wanted them fixed so they would go away, but Lorna didn't want to be fixed! She liked her powers! She wanted to keep them!

Lorna's mother walked into the room, took one look at her, sighed and walked out. Lorna knew she'd disappointed her again but didn't know how to help it. One again her body had somehow rejected the harsh chemical dye that her mother put on her and the bath had washed it out. Something about her powers never let the dye set in. Her hair was green, and it would always been green. Her mother was dye it, and it would stay until it was washed again, and it would just wash out.
Eight year old Lorna dried off and dressed in jeans and a black shirt, both well worn and aged. Clearly her favorite. She pulled on her shoes and ran down the steps. She knew that if the dying didn't work her mother would eventually cut it off. It had happened before, which was why her hair only went to her shoulders. Maybe if she grabbed her hat and got out of here she could lay low for a while.
Dane was in the odd place of knowing her parents hated what she was. She was a mutant. Her mother hadn't always been so against it, but the more Lorna's powers came out the more her mother got angry. They wanted a cure. They wanted it to go away. Lorna just wanted her mother's attention. On her way to get her hat she heard the bell to the door. She could hear her parents talking about cutting her hair again so she decided to get to the door first. Maybe a visitor would distract them and she could get out the back door.
Running to it, she pulled it open and blinked up at the man standing there. She knew how she looked--tallish for her age, thin and pale with green hair that hadn't been brushed yet today. Her pale skin made the three-day old bruise on her neck still look purple and black. Her green hair did nothing to hide the yellowing of the week old bruise at her hair line. Her clothes, while clean, were faded and had worn places in them where she wore them all the time. She had others but the black made her hair greener, and she liked her hair. Even if her parents hated it. In contrast, this guy was tall and neat all over. He looked like a sales man here to sale them something. Nothing was wrinkled to faded. Before she could say anything she hear her father yelling at her for answering the door, he took her by the arm and pulled her back away from it before looking at the guy that was there and giving him a smile. "Sorry, kids these days!" He joked, "Can I help you?" Lorna stayed standing behind the door, knowing that they didn't like people seeing her hair.

Magneto put his hand on her and pulled her up to a sitting position, and she let him. She wasn't sure what else she could do. Had she just woken herself up from this she wouldn't be left feeling this exposed, and raw. Instead she was left here showing him of all people her weakness. Her . . . her humanity. The wound left from a childhood of no one wanting her gaping open.
Magneto pulled her toward him, and his arms went around her. Lorna couldn't handle it any longer. F looking strong right now, she wasn't thinking about being the strongest so no one could hurt her--she only wanted someone to hold her. Pushing off from the bed she wrapped her arms around her father and hugged him. Pressing her face into his shoulder for the first real hug of her life. Her mother ignored her, her step father beat her, and she had no close friends that she could drop her guard around. This moment . . . . this broken moment with his arms around her was the first time she could ever remember having someone care enough, or hold her. And the emotions of knowing that he cared broken open the flood gates.
Lorna held on to him as if he was the anchor in the stormy sea. She knew he grip was tight but she couldn't loosen it while her tears soaked through his shirt. She hadn't understood the words of the song, but they still echoed in her brain. The soft words and tone that he had used while singing. A song she didn't know but it was her's now. One she'd hold to her forever now. Lorna's song.
She held him for a long time, but at the same time it felt like not enough time. Her tears slowed, and she almost dreaded the moment she had to let go and face him. "I don't know how to escape him." Lorna whispered. She was out of familiar waters now, and didn't know how to react. So she didn't let him go. She just kept holding on to him until he pulled back.

It didn't take long before someone walked up to her, and spoke to her. Lorna always braced for what to expect but he seemed welcoming enough. When she was a kid, a place like this would have been mecca. A safe place from her step-father's anger and her mother's ignorance. The idea that there was a school kids could attend and be safe, and learn to use their powers--it was a kid's dream. "Nah, I just had heard of the place and wanted to know more." She said off handedly, as if this was completely normal for her to just waltz in here.
She knew that if someone had walked up tot he island, and started walking around everyone would take notice. While they wouldn't be hostile they weren't welcoming. This place felt different. "You work here or go here?" She asked, not sure how many grades the school hosted. Not knowing a lot about this place. She was here to learn about it though since Magneto seemed fond of the man who built it. She wasn't here to met him though, since she hadn't exactly gotten permission to come. Not that she needed it! . . . this was the grey area. Pyro had talked about the place, Magneto had talked about it--she wanted to see it! TAG: terra

Kate said she was good at finding things out, and Lorna didn't know what that meant but she had enough of an ego to be alright with it. Kate said she wasn't strong, and Lorna could deal with that. She was strong--enough. While she wasn't gunho about protecting the weak, she wasn't opposed to a reason fight. "Yeah, Kate, good job." Lorna said sarcastically at Kate's ability to find her. Not really upset by it, but still a little uneasy and trying to hide it under the sarcasm. It was her defense.
"I'm Lorna." Which Kate should already know. Mutant names were hard to test out, and while she wanted to use one she hadn't found one she liked enough to make it stick. Sometimes they came out silly sounding or like someone was trying too hard. She wasn't ready to commit to one. "What is your powers?" She asked curious, trying to see why Kate had webs. Did she swim? They weren't near much water, but that didn't mean anything. Lakes and rivers were everywhere just outside the city. TAG: Mystique

"MOVE IT AGAIN!" Lorna's powers had come a bit younger then what most did. She'd been too long to know it might be better to hide them. Her mother had been the type to give her food and clothes, but not a lot of attention, and Lorna had often used misbehavior as a way of getting her mother's attention. As a child she wanted it, no matter what it looked like. What she didn't want, was his attention. Her father's--though to be fair, he wasn't her father by blood. Getting his attention often meant she would be sore the next day. If he saw her using her powers there was a swift lesson in not. He believed he could beat it out of her. Or the will to use them. "DO IT!" While the worlds might sound like he wanted her too, the tone said 'if you do your dead'. And Lorna had learned early on, she didn't want to do it. She wished her powers let her disappear. Later ass he got older, she wished they were strong enough to kill him.
With each time he dared her to defy him and move something, his fist followed his words. She tried to hide, but he'd pull her out of whatever bed or table she hide under and only yell louder. At seven, she knew it was better to face it and take it, then hide. The only good thing that had come from these, is her powers were never used by accident. When surprised or panicked they would almost habitually stop working. Her step=father had beaten that control in her.
He grabbed her, yelling at her to move something again! She didn't look at him which only made him more angry. In the dream though, Lorna was an adult, but she still couldn't fight back. She couldn't get her powers to work to defend her. She couldn't give him cancer like she'd wanted too for years. She could swing her fist to stop him. He pushed her down and began hitting her, yelling at her to do it again! The blows came to her ribs, and belly. Something touched her forehead, but it was gentle. Trapped int he dream, she pulled away from it. The blows came harder, and her mother watched. In the dream, Lorna reached for her, wanting someone to help her but her mother just watched. Disappointed! There was voice from outside the room in the dream, and she looked for it. When she looked around the blows came stronger, but she looked for them.
It was words she didn't know. A tone she'd never heard. She had to find it. It was soft and she wanted to there and not here. Slowly, bit by bit the dream faded. Slowly darkness took over. for a moment she thought she was going deeper into sleep, but then she realized she was waking up. Her body tense, tight, and wound up to snap from the dream. Braced for the next blow that wouldn't come. Yet the voice was still there. Her fingers shook as if cold, from the fear the dream made her feel and she bitterly hated it. Balling her fist up, she didn't raise them. Instead she turned to look for the voice. The song.
When her eyes found him, they almost immediately looked away. Pinching up tightly to close. Not only had he seen her like this, but he sang to her. Something she'd never had in her 20 plus years. A softness, an understanding, an feeling that had never been extended toward her. It shook her to her core, and she fear tears fall over her cheeks. She didn't know what to say or what do it. She didn't know how to react. She was shaking from the dream and the emotions. She couldn't speak, but the tears said enough.
She'd dreamed of one father's hate--only to awaken to another's compassion and it was too much for her to handle. So Lorna just cried. She wanted to reach for him, but years of rejection kept her still.

Kate. Heard she was one of them. HEARD?! WHO THE HELL WAS TALKING ABOUT HER?! Lorna sifted her weight not liking that idea, and felt her breathing deepen as her body tried to decide between fight or flight. Then the girl showed her webbed fingers. Lorna shifted her weight again, trying to decide if she was staying or checking out. On one hand--ANOTHER MUTANT! and on the other--word of mouth meant others could find her. And she didn't know how she liked that. Getting known got you killed . . . . right? That Magneto guy had got known and now NO ONE knew where to find him.
"Yeah," she said, still trying to keep her voice from giving away that she wasn't confidant right now. Though web fingers seemed like a lame ass power. She could take her if push came to shove. "You here to join us then?" She asked, knowing that out of the few mutants here her powers and attitude made her one of the stronger ones so she called herself the leader--she didn't know if the others agreed or not, but no one stopped her so maybe that was how you were a leader. Lorna wasn't stealthy. It wasn't even in her human-skills to be stealthy. She had literally stood here in her yoga pants and tank, eating cheese-its from a bright red solo cup when he creeper up on her acting shady and nearly flipped out. The proceeded to act like it was her fault. Turning her palm up she gave him a 'WTF' look. "They say people with guilty conscious scare more easy." She muttered dryly, and then went back to her eating while staring at him through narrowed eyes.
Was he heading out? He was too dressed up. What gives? "Were ya going?" She asked, cutting the bull shit and going right in to what she wanted to know. Lorna knew she wasn't a cake walk. She knew that sometimes people tended to tiptoe around her. While she'd mellowed out some under Magneto's training, her life had lead her to some really nasty coping strategies, and they tended to give her a resting bitch mood--while others just had a face. Thankfully, Pyro had always been one to give as good as he gets. She didn't have to dial down or mind her meddles with him.

Curious. Lorna had assumed that a school would be harder to walk into. The ones she had gone too before she dropped out had bars on the windows, and wasn't this . . . clean. This school looked more like a fancy hotel lobby. She'd literally just waltz up to the door and opened it with her powers. Walking in she shut the door behind her. It was the middle of a Tuesday, and people moved around in the halls. Some stared at her and kept moving, some stopped. She knew she was an outsider, and they were trying to figure out if she belonged here or not. Maybe even waiting for an adult.
She wasn't about to be the bitch who scared a munch of kids (besides she was really out numbered) so she held up her two hands and wiggled her fingers as the green plasma floated there and said "Go to class," to see if they would go on. She'd dressed 'nice' for today. Clean jeans, and a leather jacket that had some shinny parts to it. She'd even used a bit of dye on her green hair so not to wave a red flag of who she was when she came in here.
