He was insulting her, but Lana only smirked at him while waiting for him to ramble on. She was confidant enough to know when someone was saying something hurtful but true and when someone was just trying to bring you down to make their own selves feel better. "Well, the first time our paths crossed--you recall the time you shot at me? I was trying to help the children you call followers out of prison."
"This time you came into one of my safe houses." She didn't own it, but she was here often while trying to help them. "See I make sure they have what they need, so they don't have to feel the need to pick a side because someone charming promises them a soft bed and warm food."
Walking a bit closer to him, she let her voice drop. It was easy to see that everyone here felt uneasy about them bickering. While they might like him, she was someone who helped them out without ever demanding anything from them. Both well liked. It was making the room's mood vary. "Take a walk with me Erik. Just around the back where your little minions can still see you're safe. If we are to keep crossing paths, I rather have this out now."

Above the rest. She liked that. Not in the power hungry way but she would enjoy holding that level of approval in his eyes. To know that he thought her above the rest that followed him or that lurked in their world of the unbelievable. Not a freak of freaks, but a strong and valued woman. Yes. Yes she liked the idea very much.
"I would enjoy further exploring it with you, Erik." She copied his tone and style of words again, while reclining in her seat and putting her hands behind her head. Then she sat forward and looked at him. "Can you make the car fly with your powers?" She asked, wanting to know what he could do; her tone momentary back to her own before going back to his more polished one. "You asked me to show you my talents, well . . .I showed you mine, now you should shoe me yours--without making my clothing attempt to murder me."

In the time since Lana and Erik had begun speaking again, they had formed a truce of sorts. Neither tried to kill each other, but they weren't exactly trusting of each other either. Which was why when she overheard this newest plan, she went to confront him and find out what was happening. However, she arrived late to the play and entered the room just as one mutant opened up a portal! "Shite," She muttered, knowing that anything could happen with Erik there alone! Too much information could either get him off on a spree or send him on an ego trip.
With that thought in mind--or in truth no thought in mind--she ran past the others and followed Erik though the portal that would lead them to the future. If she was honest to herself, she also wanted to know how it all ended. If you knew that you could do so much with it. While she wasn't willing to fight the fight, nor she did want to raise children in a world where they were hunted and used in lab tests. She needed to know everything was going to be alright--and she trusted Erik to come back with plans, but she wanted to know the truth, now how he wished to tell it.

Entering the shelter, Lana paused and stepped back out. SSHHIITTTEEEEE! He was here! She had managed to go years, and years without even looking over her shoulder and now twice in one bloody week he just where she needed to be. Ironically she had made plans to be ready for him next time--in the form of a gun with rubber bullets--but had not though to bring it with her here!
Turning she walked back in, coming in behind him. Lana watched the end of his speech, and rolled her eyes at the appropriate parts. When he was done she watched him greet the crowd, playing into them with his kindness and charm. It was why she'd fallen for him, but then she'd realized she wasn't willing to die for his cause. The way she figured, he wasn't going to openly attack her here while he was trying to win everyone over.
The man who ran the shelter saw her and called out to her 'Lana!', drawing the attention of many in the room and exposing her sulking spot. She picked the duffel bag up, and passed it over to him. In it was some supplies to help some of the mutants here. Some medicines from a local doctor's office and things to make sandwiches.
Since she had everyone's attention, in stead of a hello she spoke to Erik. "Still spilling the same speech I see? Join the fight. War is coming. The path to freedom is paved with the sacrifices we make now." She wasn't saying it in a mocking tone, but one that still disapproved. "You'd think after some of your more flashy stunts of late that people would flock to you--then again, you do look a bit villainous on tv."

Never apologize for her skills. It was odd for someone to say that, and it made her smile even though his emotions had just made her feel unsteady and off balance. She wanted to ask him about it, but she didn't want to see the emotions again. Instead she let them continue talking about her powers and apparently how mutants were in leagues. "Are you calling me hot?" She teased, but knew he meant something else.
"So mutants are in leagues?" And apparently she wasn't on the bottom if she believed him--and she did. She knew she was good but she wondered if he really thought her good or just good for what she was. "And I'm somewhere in the middle?" She fished for more details, wanting to know for sure what he thought of her gifts.
He asked about her other triggers, and she knew there wasn't much else. Still there was one thing. "I don't get mad." She explained, "I mean I like get all annoyed and grrr, but I don't get down and dirty mad. Not sure if that is just me or if that that part of me. . . . I always wondered what would happen then. I guess it goes one of two ways--either it's just another emotions, or it's volcanic."

She had not bothered to look to see what he was doing--she rather not see her death coming--but when she felt it on her neck and everything tightened, her hands flew to it in a pointless effort to free herself. He walked closer, even moved the door while he continued to taunt her. Pitiful display? His finger touched her, and her eyes narrowed. Pitiful display? "Your the one in the cape." She bit out, as he walked away though Lana had no idea if he heard her or not.
Trapped there while he walked away, she kept the room dead. Once she was free however, Lana dropped to the floor coughing, and then took off. Unlike Erik's talent, her gifts didn't just turn off, she had to do it herself when she got it this strong. On her exit she stumbled down the steps and looked around the street. DAMN HIM! "So bitter, but nor did you care enough to ask me why!" She hissed into the air, knowing he was too far to hear her. Next time she'd be ready for his antics.

She felt it. Everything he felt. It was imposable not to feel it, because of how intense everything was. Reaching a shaking hand up to her chest, she rubbed at it. How did he live with a memory so painful? Her moment of seeing just the emotion of it was enough to make her NOT want him thinking of it again. "I'm sorry," She muttered, "I can't help it." Reading him. It was like seeing people. She just did it.
But nor would she ask him about it either. She could respect that privacy, and she was also afraid of that memory. "Mutants that I know . . . " Shaking her head to clear it of his emotions she forced herself to try and sound happier. "No one really impressive. Met a guy who could jump high. . . . . I almost wanted to make him jump off a cliff. He was annoying. Then this other one, he said he was a mutant but never proved it."
"No one like you though." She looked at him, watching him drive. "With such a physical power . . . bet you're handy in a bar fight." Cause he could make anything happen to anyone. Her power wasn't good for fighting, and she wasn't good at it either. "I'm not gonna ever try to make you mad!" She teased, knowing he could kill her.

"Shite!" She jumped back from the door, and spun around to stare at him while he walked forward and spoke to her at the same time. Bloody man! He was going to talk her to death! Lana almost wished he'd just shot her and get it over with. "Taught me better then this?" She returned when he was done, and shook her head slowly. What would he have had her do? Join him in prison? Let her be someone's prison bitch? She was too cute for that! It wasn't happening! Let him fight the war, she just wanted to live.
"You want to shot me, Erik, then shot me." Taunting him was the worse thing she could do, but right now her control on the room was fragile and slipping. "But do it before you monolog." Her hands were behind her back, resting on the door handles which she pointlessly kept trying though she knew he would not let them budge. Her breathing was deep and almost frantic. She wasn't a fighter. Had never been able to master the lessons he gave her in that. She was a survivor. That she'd done on her own.

"Vernacular," She repeated the word slowly as if she had never heard it before. When he opened the door she looked at it, then grinned up at him before climbing in. She begin moving things and looking at everything while he got in and began driving. Opening the glove box, pulling down the visor. Touching the radio. Finally she pulled her on belt, and sighed back in her seat.
"I dunno. I just sort of started hearing about mutants, and realized what I was doing. It was just something that had always bee apart of me. Though in the early days it was mostly being able to read others. Then it turned to me feeling sad so everyone was; or when I was excited everyone was." Then she began to see things for how it was. "At first I stayed and tried to stop it, but then my parents began to talk about mutants, and they said once they would pull me out of school before they let me go to school with one of them. SO I didn't hang around to let em learn about me."
Looking over at him she shrugged. "What about you? How old where you when you . . . " She wiggled her fingers, as if to say 'did all that'.

The high pitch scream that came with the shots fired almost made her look around for the source--almost because she was surprised it came from her. Opening her eyes she look at the bullets, before slowly closing them again. After a few deep calming breaths she opened them again. Lana stepped to the right, but the bullets followed. Alright them. She stepped the left and again they followed. Then she faked left only to jump right . . . and still they followed.
Dropping her hands, and forcing herself to pretend to be calm, she edged closer to the door. Please be bullet proof! "You know, after you scaring the bloody hell out of me over and over again, you'd think I'd have that fear thing down pat." She tried to joke. "If you want to play, Erik, take off your . . . . quite fine hat, and lets play."
While talking to him, she picked an officer that was behind him. She removed the void, and filled him with her own fear, panic, and the need to live. He shook his head a few times then grabbed his gun and fired a few rounds off at Erik. Lana was fairly sure he could stop them but while he was distracted . . . . and bolted for the doors.

"Yeah, yeah, mums the word." She agreed with eagerness. That wasn't hard, she had no one to tell. The few mutants she had met before this had been distrusting of her because of how easy she could control them. They might not have said it, but when you knew how someone felt about you then it wasn't hard to know when they lied to your face. It was why she was liking this Erik guy. He didn't say 'you have talent' then feel bitter. It was a cleaner feeling, more honest.
He was so much taller then her now that they were standing. Everyone was taller then her, but Erik towered over her like a tree. Looking way up at him as they walked the sidewalk she asked more, "You got wheels? Cause I can get us some so we don't gotta walk if ya want." She paused them rephrased to sound more like him, "I can acquire the car quite simply."

He looked over at her and her smirk became a smile as she--WHAT THE HELL! Straightening up as the guns pointed at her, Lana found her smile turning to nervous grin. Holding up her hands to slowly take a few steps forward, she warned "I have a few new tricks too." Though nothing that would work on him, or for her favor with the guns.
Closing her eyes, she focused hard, and when she opened them everyone in the room besides Erik and her feel to their knees. Void. It was what she called this feeling. Cut off from everything, and overwhelmed at the same time. It made them almost comatose in their actions, but their faces still read whatever she was flicking through them faster then she could think of what to hit them with. "Can't hold it long, so if you planned a grand exit this would be the moment."
Still very aware that he had every gun on her, she stepped to the side, then back, and back again; moving toward the exit door. "Guessing your still mad over the last time we said our goodbyes." Not that anyone said any goodbyes that time either. "Understandable, but for now how about you not kill me and we get out of here . . . since you were kind enough to out me for being a mutant." Jerk.

"No, we can go." Lana told him, and watched him toss down some bills. As she stood up, Lana picked up the bills and stuffed them into her pocket, then picked up the unfinished burger and munched on it while walking out to the sidewalk. Ketchup tickled on her fingers, and Lana licked it off while waiting for him to join her. Once he had, she spoke between bites, "So is this place like in the city?"
Which also brought her other questions, "How many of us are there? What can they do?" It was best to always know what your getting into, so you could be prepared. "You gonna death choke me if I use my skills there?" Just be clear in advanced. "Cause sometimes it just happens, ya know. I don't mean to, but it's habit. Too many years just doing it."

"You are really too kind, good sir, I hope the local boys know just how lucky they are to have you working for them." Lana said, her voice light and grateful, while following the officer-who was almost as short as she was-down the narrow hall. Some young mutant kids were catch after doing some dumb stunt, and Lana was trying to get a meeting with them to find out how she could help them get out of this mess. With a bit of luck--and a bit of skill with making the local beat cop feel like the king of the world--she was getting her meeting.
Pausing she looked back over her shoulder. What was that emotion. Fear. Panic. Hate. Anger. PANIC! Lana jumped as a blast of fear and panic hit her just as a gun went off. Someone had feared for their life . . . and still fearing for it. "Oh shite," she muttered, as the cop pulled her down, and told her to get behind him. He pulled his gun and ran toward the back room back where they'd just come from.
Feeling drawn to the chaos, Lana slowly walked toward the room, and when she hesitantly entered along the side it took her almost a whole second to come out of her stupper. It was him! Lana had to hold her breath to keep in her next curse. Oh shite indeed!--and what the hell was on his head? A cape? Gone was Erik, and there in his place was the magnet man . . . Magneto. Exhaling slowly and as silently as she could, as if he would be able to hear even that; Lana looked around. Everything was about to get out of hand. Either was not going to back down.
Closing her eyes, and doing as she was taught--iconicly by Erik--she blocked out the fear, and when she opened her eyes the room took on a relax feeling as she removed the emotions that were going to get them killed. The leader, whatever rank he held, leaned back on the pole near him and smiled. Maybe she just over killed it, but right now she was giving them confidence, and removing the fear, the hate.
But she couldn't even feel Erik. It was that stupid hat! Knowing he's know something was happening, Lana leaned on the wall and smirked at him. Being the last time she had saw him was during a failed prison break, this was going to go great. Especially since she's left him there to rot.

Lana watched him as he spoke more about himself then he had thus far, which told her she needed to be asking more questions. He seemed to want their kind to be able to survive. Watching him now, she tried to read his emotions this time looking for feelings that might hint to if she should trust him. "I wasn't flattering myself," She muttered, still thinking over his words.
After a few long quite moments she looked back up at him, and tried to play it off as she didn't want to join his little group; though by the way she felt and her body language she knew that it failed. "I guess I can ya know, check it out. See what it's about before I say no." In truth she wanted someone safe. Not having to try to sleep light for fear of someone finding her. "Ya know, to be fair and all."

"Interesting." She copied him, her voice no longer the accented unschooled slack she spoke with, but copying his more cultured tone. It was how she survived, steal a bit from everyone. However she became distracted by his words, and rolled her eyes animatedly at his nothing. Sure he wanted nothing. She knew that a lie. Everyone had something in mind. No one did anything out of the kindness in their heart.
"Yea, course it does. What girl doesn't dream of the heroic white man come to save her from a life on the streets." Sarcasm wasn't something she resorted to often, but Lana hated being lied too. Trusting she was--as she had told him too much--but she wasn't a fool. "Look, Erik, I been on my own long enough to know nothing is free. No one just does things like this. You gonna give me what . . . a place to live, food to eat, and spend your time and energy training me? You either want to use my skills for something, or you want me in your bed . . . and you aint that hot."
She didn't feel any of the tell tell emotions that came with lieing and betraying, but still . . . everything he offered? Really? "Just tell me the catch. You want something. I might even be willing to give it to ya in return for the help, but you gotta be honest up front."

Lana reached for the ketchup and poured it over the food, before starting ti eat with gusto, almost going too fast to savor the flavor of the food. Getting hot meals like this wasn't as common as you'd think. She didn't like to over play her gifts ever where. If someone caught on she'd be busted. "You a drinker, Erik?" She asked, "You ever put only one thing in your glass?" Lana seemed to be forgetting about drinks like whiskey where they weren't mixed with anything; but her point could be understood. "You can't pick just one."
"For you, I needed you eager and helpful; but I couldn't just give you them emotions. You gotta build up to it. Set the scene. So I waited until you looked at me, then hit ya with a few small lighter things. Once I had your attention, built it up. Dash of this, a slice of that. Anticipation, joy, curiosity, protectiveness, and like 12 other things." She explained, "Think about it. How ya felt. Was it just one thing? Nah, it was a ride. You felt this, and then this, which built to this . . . . " More bites.
"Took me years to get that down. For her--" The woman he asked about, "It was simpler. She was feeling grumpy, and small time . . . I uh, I can read emotions too. So I took them from her, made her pity me, turn it into her feeling important, special. Made her fell some guilt, and she was trying to sooth that while showing her importance by giving me free stuff like it was nothing."
Pointing around the room in a subtle way she clicked off the emotions she could feel; "The mom feel tried, stressed but enjoys it. She loves her kids. If I wanted to play that I'd make her feel worry and love at the same time. Tell her she makes me miss my own Mum, and she'd reach out. The gents are a bit harder. Men in pairs are dangerous--one slip and you them trying to prove things to each other; which is why I went for you. I could have gone for the old man, but they tend to talk a lot and you were hotter." She said it was like was nothing, because to her, while he was good looking, it wasn't meant as a come on. Just the reason she picked one con over another.

His words made it sounds like she was wasting the skills she'd worked so hard to hone and grow. Now he didn't come right out and say it, but with all this potential he thought she had, and wasn't using then what else could he mean? "You some kind of teacher or something?" She asked, when he offered to teach her; and then continued on to explained his own skills. Lana casually reached up to pull out her earrings and toss them on the table, "Just in case," she muttered to him, not knowing what else he might use. "So you want to help me? Out of the goodness of ya heart?" Moving to lean closer she tilted her small narrow face, "I know I was born at night, but it wasn't last night. No one does anything just to be nice. No one. So what you want from me?"
It was then the waitress begin to walk over. "Hold that thought." She told him, "And just remember, I can't make her do; only feel." As the waitress came over toward them Lana began to play, her body turned inward, as her shoulders drew closer and made her frame look smaller. 'He you go my dear. That will put some meat on your bones. You just eat up ever bit of that and don't worry about the check.' Lana gave a soft smile, almost hesitant toward the woman, "Thank you," She said in a soft meeker voice. "This kind sir was just offering me a ride home."
The waitress looked concern for a moment and turned her gaze to Erik, and in that moment Lana played harder. 'Oh my.' the woman said, 'well aren't you a handsome fellow!' Blushing and giggling the waitress wrote her phone number on Erik's check and pulled it off her pad. 'After you help her home, you come back here. I got something good for the likes of you.' She reached over and tucked her number into his collar before walking away, tossing come hither looks at him from over her shoulder.
Lana started chuckling, a soft hushed sound that started deep but got slightly higher before she snorted and it deepened again. "I warned ya, I don't control the body . . . only the heart." She teased him while laughing at the woman's hitting on him. "And that, that was child's play."

Drastic shift in the mood. Right. She knew that, and it was apart of the flaw. Play a little and you got a little; but play with the big toys--the larger emotions that controlled actions easier--then she got more. Subtle wasn't something she had time for. She needed quick ins and even quicker outs. "Yeah, but with my skills, our kind don't catch on that quick either." Skills being her gifts, she rather think of them as something she had to learn and practice since she worked so hard at control; rather then something she had been given. "I've met a few, and it never seems to matter much--human, or mutant. They see a little girl, a pretty face, some babble of nonsense while I give them just the right cocktail of feeling and I normally get what I want." She explained.
"The only down side is panicking, or fear. I tend to make everyone feel it. Can't stop it when I'm frightened." Lana didn't even know she was telling him everything! When it came to playing in the world she could play, but when it came to trusting she forgot not everyone should be trusted. "Once I lose that control, mobs form--riots."
"It's easier to go hard, get what want, and leave em confused behind the wheel of their car." Her exit plan. "You never did tell me how you did that belt thing." And to his other, "What you wanna see? I can't make anyone do anything, ya feel me? But I have learned to make them dance my tune. I can take control of their emotions; tell em what to feel and and what not to feel. What they do with it is out of my hands. Like you. I made you, I didn't make you say anything. Just gave you a little dose of this and that."
