She assured him that she was fine to get started, and while Erik preferred that she be fully awake and alert, he would have to take her word for it. She seemed to enjoy the luxury of a bed, or perhaps it was the assurance that she would wake up in a safe environment, rather than one where she would have to look over her shoulder all the time. She was saying that she was ready, and less than a second after she said this, Erik abruptly raised his hand and shot a dagger toward her at a rapid speed, the point of it right between her eyes.
He had obviously stopped it before it pierced her, the tip of it was just touching her skin. Not enough to pierce it, but just brushing against her the space between both her eyes. "Fear." That was the emotion that often made her lose focus. As he spoke he began to circle around her, leaving the dagger hanging in the air, still between her eyes. "What rushes through your mind, races through your heart, when in the state of fear?" She was an expert on emotions, she obviously must be able to pin down thoughts and feelings that she experienced during these milliseconds of time. He wanted to know what those were, so that he could help her channel it.

He may not speak for the mutant race, but he was the only one willing to advocate for them. She should know that by now. For everyone else stayed in their sheltered world, too afraid to speak up against for other mutants. Her advice fell on completely deaf ears. He was a leader, but not one who would create genocide. The fact that she used the last War was even a new low. If he felt remotely anything for her in this moment, he would have been furious. For the entirety of the war he had been brutally tortured, living nearly every moment of consciousness in pain, just so that his powers would be exposed. The only one who knew this, was Charles. For perhaps he was the only one who understood. No one else did. No one, except for a certain someone who was forever in his mind. And it certainly wasn't Lana. She would be the last person he ever expected to understand. So he did not bother. He would not argue with her. She was nothing to him. No hate filled his any longer; no anger, no feelings of betrayal. Just, nothing. He wanted to tell her not to bother to do anything, because she wasn't helping mutants.
She wasn't one of them; not in the heart anyway. She had lost the right to include herself in the category of those who were persecuted, because she didn't believe them to be strong. She had no hope for them. Erik began to take his helmet off, clutching it in his hand. Why? So that she could sense his emotions. So that she could feel that nothingness he felt for her. Perhaps it would deter her from ever approaching him again. Standing there, he let himself be exposed to her for a few moments. He did not need her to dismiss him. He would leave when he so wished. But right now, he wanted her to feel what he felt: nothing for her. "One day you will wake up, Lana; and see the world for what it truly is." With those words, he placed his helmet back on his head and left her presence, back into the warehouse. Though he did not stay for much longer. He spoke with a few more mutants, exchanging relevant information, and made the promise of returning. Then, he was gone, ready to make plans for the future, because no one else would.

He watched her approach, clearly noticing that she had literally just gotten out of bed. He waited a moment, as she spoke of how he was supposedly a morning person. He looked at her state, realizing that she was still in the process of waking up. "I would be more like an annoying afternoon person for it is now noon." But clearly, she liked to sleep in. "Go get some breakfast." Or lunch. "Freshen up. There are clean clothes in the living room for you." Thanks to the help of Angel, since Erik wasn't exactly going to go around shopping for ladies attire.
"Then return when you are fully awake. You need to be fully focused and alert." Not having just rolled out of bed. Which was fine. But Erik took training seriously. He needed her to be fully conscious. "I will wait here for you," he added, granting her that freedom to get herself together. After all, it was her first day. He could be a little lenient as she familiarized herself with routine. Besides, she wasn't here as a member of the Brotherhood necessarily; merely someone who had accepted his offer to help her. Not accepted his invitation into the Brotherhood.

Not long ago she was boasting about her gifts, showing him that she could make everyone fall to their knees in submission and do nothing but just stay there. And now, she was acting as if she couldn't do anything helpful. The hypocrisy of her words and actions it just angered him even more. It wasn't about what abilities mutants had, but how they used them. He felt it building as the surrounding metal continued to tremble and shake . . . until she said something that calmed him down. Suddenly, his powers were back in full control. Everything stopped shaking, and he felt the anger slowly diminishing. He looked at her, void of anything really. No longer was he disappointed with her. No longer did he lament in how she had abandoned them. No longer would he try to make her understand his point of view. Was it because he had forgiven her? No. It was because she no longer meant anything to him. Absolutely nothing.
"Thank you," he said, his voice meaning his words, but not with friendly gratitude. "For finally showing me who you truly are." It was her words about how humans would always be stronger than mutants that had calmed him down; that made her nothing to him. "You are a defeatist." That was all he needed to know. Had he known that when he first met her, he never would have put an ounce of his effort into her. "You would do well living with humans, because you are a disgrace to the mutant race." She denied her gifts or that she had the ability to do something to change the future for mutants. She didn't even want to try to stand up for them. But worst of all, she would only side with those who were winning and who she saw as stronger. And in her point of view, humans were stronger. Now, he knew where her loyalties lay. With homo sapiens. She did not believe in standing up for mutants, and for that reason, he regretted having wasted his time with her.

Erik was already aware of the fact that he had overestimated her, but he never had over estimated her powers. He'd merely overestimated her loyalty to their worthy cause. The fact that she was doubting herself was interesting. He did not doubt her. Even now, when he was displeased with her, knew she was powerful. He had told her that, repeatedly. He had helped her hone her skills so that in the state of extreme terror, she still had control over her powers. Yet she saw herself as weak. He supposed that that was how some mutants saw themselves, but he had not expected her to. "Combat is not just about physical fighting. It is about using your abilities. And you have the potential to overcome an entire army with yours." He had that much belief in her gift, though she seemed to lack it. "Yet you choose not to, because you prefer the path that is easier. You prefer the path that is safer for you, inconsiderate of others who are not as privileged." Was she not even willing to consider the possibility that she could help so many mutants?
"If you truly believe that you could have done nothing, and you conscience is clear, then continue to live in your world of denial. I know I did everything I could to save them. Did you?" No. She didn't. It was a rhetorical question. She had done nothing because she abandoned them when they needed her most. He would not let that go; not let her forget that. "I am damning you for yours because you abandoned us when we needed you!" Erik was losing his composure and in the height of his growing anger, felt his powers slightly slipping. It caused the metal bike racks, the metal dumpster, everything metal in their surroundings starting to shake violently. Erik often had excellent control over his powers, yet right now, thinking of all the death, of all they had lost, and the anger he felt for homo sapiens . . . his powers were exposing themselves. He didn't even care that they were; he was too consumed with anger.

He watched her leap on the bed, seeming rather enthusiastic about her current living situation. He remained in place at the doorway, watching her with a slight smile as she then questioned whether this was all a dream. And finished her words by saying that things like this, don't happen to girls like her. "You are far more than just a girl, Lana." She was a mutant. A powerful one at that. "People like you deserve things like this." And it was a shame that they did not get it. Which was where Magneto's views came in; where his purpose of The Brotherhood came in. To give mutants those things that they were deprived of. "Get some rest. Dinner is downstairs for when you are hungry. I will see you tomorrow at noon for our first training lesson," he told her. With that he gave her a smile and turned to leave.
He did not dine with the others that evening, he had work to do. Starting with their current president. Erik was doing research on the man, having heard some rumors and looking into it to see if they were true. He had spent the evening doing so, running out for a few errands and returning late at night when most everyone would be asleep. He sat in the living area for a little while, looking at the unplayed chess board, his mind going to his friend. But he eventually retired to his room, and awoke the next morning. Once again, he did the required work for the early hour and before he knew it, noon was nearly upon them. He told Emma to let Lana know to meet him in the backyard. Whether Emma used the traditional method of delivering the message, or her powers to do, Erik left up to her and her own creativity. Either way, he knew the message would be delivered to her, so he went to the background to await her for their first session.

It seemed she had not known. Good. Let this be a lesson to her. "Trask Industries, a government funded industry, engaged in cruel and violent experimentation on mutants. None survived." They had rounded up as many as they could, picked them off one by one. Erik knew how that felt for Shaw had tortured and used him for experimentation while at the concentration camp when he was younger. His tone was not one that was breaking the news gently to her. He was angry that they were dead. Because there were those out there who could have stopped it. Charles. And even she could have done something. But they all preferred to turn a blind eye because it was safe for them. "Several more were experimented on, tortured, died in the name of humans science." And other mutants out there did not care. It was shameful to know how they could just live their life in such obliviousness. "They were separated from one another. Vulnerable." He had been in prison, desperate to get out to help them, but no thanks to her, he had not succeeded in his attempts.
"There are those out there who could have helped them. Had others come together, stood together, so many lives could have been saved." But they hadn't. So many lives had been lost, and this was just the beginning. The genocide had begun. "Others like you," he added, angry that she had done the cowardly thing. "I did not ask you to fight for me. I asked you to fight for others. For them." It was not about him, it was about mutant rights. "Because you can. Because you have the strength and ability to do so." She was a strong mutant but did not care to use her gifts for the greater good. Like Charles. Where was he when others were dying? Where was he when Banshee and Alex had been taken? "But you turn a blind eye and pretend like you can do nothing to stop this. You live in a sheltered world, afraid to take a risk if it means saving hundreds of others. It is cowardly and I was wrong to ever believe you could be part of the Brotherhood in all that it stands for." Mystique had single handedly saved many mutants from an army camp, ones who would have shared the same fate as the others: death. So he firmly believed that Lana could have done something; she was strong enough to have done something. But selfish enough that she chose not to.

Lana said that she could feel them, and that came as no surprise to Magneto. He now knew her abilities and so knowing she could sense their emotions, even more aware that she could not turn it off, made perfect sense. "Most likely four at the moment." The four who had been allied to Shaw were rather close. Mystique was more allied to Erik. She was the one that Magneto would fight to keep at his side, though without forcing her to stay. He could not do that, yet knowing it was what she truly wanted made it easier to remind her why she was here, and all the good she could do for other mutants. As they rounded the corner into the main living room, the other mutants rose to their feet, looking at the latest addition curiously. "This is Lana Kane," he began to introduce. Going in order, Magneto listed off their names, motioning to each one. "Riptide. Azazel. Angel, and Emma Frost." They are looked at her, and Erik knew that they were curious as to what her abilities were. "We do have one more who goes by the name Mystique, but she is not here at the moment." Lana could meet her at a later time.
He then spent the next little while allowing them to get acquainted, providing them the opportunity to discuss their abilities with one another and better familiarize themselves with each other. Erik watched them all as they conversed, gaining a sense of comradery. They seemed to all be getting along for now, and that certainly made it easier in the long run. While her position here was not solidified, as it was of her own free choosing, it was good to know that there would not be any immediate issues with her and the others. Magneto eventually interrupted the conversations to escort Lana to her room. Walking down the hall, he opened the door to one of the guest bedrooms. "This is yours," he told her, allowing her to step in as he stood in the threshold of the door. "The kitchen is downstairs," he added, letting her know where the important rooms where. "I trust it is to your liking?" The others were used to it, even Mystique for she had come from Charles' massive estate. Lana was the first one who was literally coming off the streets and perhaps was the least used to these kind of accommodations.

Erik once again listened to her express her perspective of how things were. "I never gave you that ultimatum," he argued. "All I suggested was that you do something to help others mutants who do not have the safety and security you did. And the moment you had to do something apart from sleep in a bed, eat to your heart's content, and enjoy the luxuries provided to you, you fled like a coward." He would never force someone to stay with The Brotherhood, but if they agreed to embark on a mission, then he expected them to stay loyal and carry out the plan. Not flee the see the moment it looked like the enemy was gaining the upper hand. And that was precisely what she had done. "Mutants fear homo sapiens, afraid of what they may do if they are exposed." Which is why some of them had to hide. "Not all mutants can blend in as easily as you and I." Nor should they have to. "Just as not all mutants can use their abilities to gain the bare necessities of the day." Like she had. She could use her powers to get what she needed, as she had done so before he had met her and probably still now. But there were other mutants who's abilities could not give them the basic requirements of the day, like food, shelter and so on.
She was right about one thing: he never loved her. Not in a romantic way. He did have an affection for those in the Brotherhood, for they were his kin. They were united with him under a similar objective: to fight for human rights. And she had broken that when she refused to help a mutant who required her aid. She spoke now of how she was helping others every day, and he strongly disagreed with the methods of how she supposedly helped them. "And what exactly are you doing to help?" He questioned rhetorically. "You merely give them what they need for the day, and the following day, repeat the same cycle." This was no way to live. "All you are helping doing, is perpetuating an oppressive society for mutants." Couldn't she and the others see the big picture? Couldn't they understand that unless they did something, it was only a matter of time before they were all rounded and treated like a plague, more so than they already were. "Emma, Angel, Riptide, Azazel . . . so many others died because of humans fascination with our abilities. How is giving a handful of mutants food and shelter going to help the hundreds of others who are suffering every day." He didn't expect answers from her, he was merely attempting to broaden her perspective, trying to make her understand that it wasn't just about helping a select few mutants. It was about changing society so that they could all live freely.

He couldn't help but smile at her reaction to the estate. If only this could be their permanent residence, but not all were as lucky as Charles. They would have to be transient if they were to protect their team: if they were to protect The Brotherhood. She then commented on how he owned a city, and his smile remained in place. Her next question distracted him from responding to her words, or even from going inside. He could understand her fear and concern in that, but also did not want her to hold such a fear. "You will," he assured her but also knew that it was expected of him to reassure her of this, so would have to give her more than that. "I will advocate for you, and support you with whatever you may need." If he accepted her, then the others would have no choice but to do so.
They looked to him as their leader, and thus, it was his duty to bring more mutants to join their cause, or at least train them, as he was starting off by doing with her. "Should a time come where you feel the slightest discomfort, come find me. And I will put your mind to ease." But he also did not want her to feel trapped here for if she did, then it would make her more likely to leave. "And should you decide to leave, I will personally take you wherever you need to go." He would escort her back to her former life if that was what she wanted. Either way, he wanted her to feel safe, sure, and protected. If all those things were achieved by his mere presence, then he would do all he could do grant her them. Letting a few moments pass for her to take in his words, he gave her that time to make her decision. "Shall we?" He asked, motioning to the estate. Her answer determining whether she was going to join his world, or leave from it as quickly as she had entered it.

Erik let her speak, taking in all the words she spoke. It started off with her saying that she left him to rot in prison. Not exactly what he wanted to hear, but nor should it come to a surprise any more for her actions that day had made it clear that she had no intention to help him. She then attempted to justify her reasoning. Saying she was frightened. She wasn't willing to die. That she was not a solider. That she would leave him again. He doubted her words that it was a difficult decision. It most likely wasn't. For if it was one she would repeat, then how difficult could it be? How much of a burden on her conscience was it truly? When she was done, he let a few moments of silence pass, absorbing her words, deciding what was worth saying to her. She knew his political views so he was not going to give her a lecture on them. But she was still so naive. Still so foolish if she thought that she was out of the conflict. "You are already fighting in a war," he told her. "Every day, you and other mutants fight to survive." Whether it be for his cause or not, mutants were struggling. "Do not act as if I put you in a dangerous situation. Mutants live in danger and fear every moment that they are in this society." How could she not see that? How could mutants like Charles not see that?
Her apology meant nothing to him. While he was not going to kill her, he was not going to embrace her either. "The girl you started off being was frightened, struggling to find a hot meal to eat, living on the streets." A reminder to who she was before she met him. He did not forget that girl, though she seemed to. "I took you in." Another reminder. "I trained you. I gave you all you wanted; gave you what you most longed for at that time." Tomorrow. He remembered her words without her reminder. She had wanted tomorrow, and he given her so many of that. "Whether you remain ineffective in this war against homo sapiens that everyone is inevitably involved in, is your choice. But to betray another mutant as you betrayed me, is something I never would have expected from you." Because she was afraid of dying; because she was afraid of homo sapiens. Which proved his point: mutants lived in fear of humans. "If mutants are betraying one another, then what hope do we have of thriving in a world that seeks to destroy us?" This was why the Brotherhood was in existence. Because he offered them a family. He gave mutants that sense of unity so they would not fear betrayal. She already knew this. He had explained it to her then, when she was allied with him -- so that was what he had believed.
"So do not stand here and play the victim. Do not act as if the only thing I exposed you to was war and danger." She had already been exposed to that. He took a step toward her, not in a threatening manner, but nor was it in an amicable one. "Mutants are dying every day. I fight for them and give those who want to fight for justice a chance to join in. You may believe you are sheltering yourself from the war, but mark my word, the day will come when you will be forced to choose a side. And I pity the mutant, or mutants, you betray when that day comes." Because she was disloyal to him. Because she had proven that whatever he did for her, in that moment, meant nothing. She had granted him that permission to call her selfish and while he had not used that word, it was implied in his words. He no longer thought highly of her. Because while she still may be exceedingly powerful, she did not have the principals and values that he believed mutants should have. Loyalty. Honor. A sense of justice.

Her one word answer entailed a great deal. Tomorrow. It was about survival for her. It was about finding a place where she could find some comfort; where she could thrive. He could give her that. He could give her tomorrow. He could give her the promise of years even. If that was what she sought, then Magneto would ensure he provided it. It was what a lot of mutants wanted for it all centered around one similar concept: hope. Hope for a greater life, a more stable one. Hope for the future. And that was what Erik wanted to give them. Not just the mutants he affiliated with, but all the mutants in the world. Why should they deserve any less than others? It should be humans that feared mutants, not the other way around. Society was so skewed and it often frustrated him that he could not do more things more quickly. But this was a process. It would take time and Erik had to be smart and strategic about it.
He remained silent upon her response, knowing that this kind of promise was one that she had to experience, rather than be given in the form of words. It did not take a great deal longer to arrive at Shaw's mansion. As Erik pulled into the lot, he got out of the car, moving to the other side to open the door for her, and even extended his hand to help her out. "Welcome to your tomorrow."

Erik knew that this was extremely dangerous. But he needed to do it. It was necessary if he was going to change the current state for mutants for the better. He needed to see what the future held in store for them. Not wanting Charles to discover what he was doing or try to stop him, Magneto wore his helmet, not even considering taking it off during the travel. The mutant he had sought out explained himself again, giving Magneto all the conditions as well as cautions of doing this. It was clear that the mutant was nervous, but Magneto had managed to convince him of the just cause, and that he would be a part of fighting for justice for mutants. With that, he leaped through the time portal, which would take him to the new millennium. The moment he arrived, he was in some sort of abandoned warehouse.
He lay on the ground, needing several moments to collect himself. He had been warned that traveling through this portal would be excruciatingly painful, and that his powers would be temporarily weakened because of the his body's physical weakness. He remained on the cold ground for a few more moments, before forcing himself to rise to his feet. He was about to pull his helmet off, when he spun around to see that someone else had leaped through the portal as well. And who that person was, made Erik wish he could push her back in. While the two of them were not quite enemies, they were not allies either. She had made it clear where she stood. And Erik did not want her to be here for her views and methods were drastically different from his. "What the hell are you doing here?" He demanded, not yelling, but his voice stern, clearly displeased at her presence.

Erik was not impressed with her explaining how she helped. Why? Because it was unproductive. It was repetitive. It was encouraging a lifestyle where they had to hide in secret and find a safe place to live. What kind of life was that? They could not forever live in shelters, outcast from society, fear of discovery. This was the flaw. This is what Charles did. And she was like him in that sense too. They did not seek to change the lifestyle of mutants: they sought to live day by day. This was precisely why people like her would never make a difference for mutants in the long run. Because long term, this, doing things like offering help every day with food, would not fix the larger issue.
She told him to take a walk with her, and while Magneto had nothing to say to her, it seemed that there was something she wanted to say to him if she was requesting his presence in private. He was not afraid of her. Nor was he reluctant. He gave a small nod to those he had previously conversing with. With that, he began to walk toward the back of the shelter. What could she possibly have to say to him? He was curious enough to accept her request which was the only reason he was now standing here in private with her. At least he had his helmet on. For now was not the time for her to play with his emotions. Not that there had ever been a suitable time for that. So instead, he just waited silently, allowing her to speak first as she was clearly the one who had something to get off her chest.

She confirmed that she would enjoy further exploring her powers with him. Even though they were not there yet, it was already becoming evident that she was leaning toward staying for quite some time. Enough to engage in training. He had a strong feeling she would join his cause rather quickly, or at least be open minded and accepting to some of his political views. He gave a slight smile when she asked if he could make the car fly. He most certainly could, and they were far enough outside the city so that he could. However, he did not want to draw too much attention to this location for if anyone saw, it made lead them to Shaw's residence where they just so happened to be staying. He did not say anything, nor do anything. He kept his hands on the steering wheel and continued on driving forward. Though in his mind, he was focusing.
Not on the road ahead of him but levitating the car. It was not far enough of the ground so that someone at a distance would be able to see a flying car. He also took advantage of the fact that there were no other cars or people around them. It was not that he was ashamed of his powers, it was that he needed to protect the safety of their headquarters. "Look outside your window," he told her. And if she did, she would notice that they were no longer on the road, that the wheels were a few inches off. After she looked for a bit, he lowered the car once again, letting his mind break from his concentrated state of maintaining control over the large vehicle. "What is it that you most want from life?" He asked, knowing it may seem random, but there was a reason for it. Some said acceptance. Some said living without fear. Some said a family. Some listed more materialistic answers. He wanted to know what her response would be, so that in their time together, he could create an environment that would cater to that. To further convince her that there was hope for mutants. That their life would not forever be hiding in fear.

Erik heard someone call an all too familiar name, yet he chose to ignore it. She was here. Shocking. Then again, not really. Perhaps she was here to take advantage of the roof it offered her. He was not overly concerned about how she kept herself fed, clothed, or sheltered. She was merely Lana to him, no longer was she Darklit. Yet his attempt to not acknowledge her failed when she approached him, pointing out that he was giving the same speech. How wrong she was. He turned to look at her, not surprised she had made it out alive. Though it was slightly unexpected that she speak to him now. "Perhaps you should listen more attentively, for the war is not coming. It is already here." And those who failed to recognize that, were naive and oblivious to the truth.
"The truth about society is far too political and complex for you, Lana." She was less naive than when he first met her, but her actions in the recent past, and dismissiveness of what he was talking about, still convinced him that she was not fully aware of what was happening to mutants in today's world. "You have proved to be incapable of handling it. It goes above your mental capabilities. Far beyond your means of comprehension." And he would not make that same mistake twice of placing faith and trust in her, only to have her flee in the face of danger; to prove to be a coward. "Seems that you are one of such people you speak of who flocks to me, for I seem to constantly find you in my presence." Though when it counted, she was had not been there with him or for him. And that was what remained in his memory more than any other instance in their past.

She asked if he was calling her hot, and he ignored the comment. Focusing on her next question which was of far more relevance. She seemed to be fixated in physicality, which made sense considering her young age. "From my experience, they can be categorized into different classes based on their abilities and skills." Not about what power they possessed necessarily, but more about how they used that power; how much control they had over it. There was no official categorization as of yet, but Magneto was certainly mindful of how they could be organized into different levels. "I would say you are somewhere in the middle, yes. Perhaps a little higher than the average mutant. And by the time I am finished training you, you will be far above the average." As previously recognized, she was young and had already achieved this much. Magneto could think of all the more she could achieve by the time she was 30.
Lana then mentioned that she did not get angry, and it peaked Erik's curiosity. She was unsure as to whether that was due to her power or whether it was her personality. He believed it to be accredited to her powers. Everyone got angry. It was impossible not to. It also made him rather intrigued and curious to discover what would happen if he were to get her genuinely angry. It may be risky, but he wanted to work on that. He wanted her to be prepared with all emotions. Perhaps there was something greater within her that could be unleashed if they were to channel the anger inside of her. "Perhaps that is something we can further explore," he told her, already thinking of what great potential she had.

Erik did not stick around to see if she made it out. He knew she did. And he did not need to speak to her again. Even that last encounter had been unexpected. Instead, he sought out the teenagers and as presumed, they did not venture far. He explained that they should not carry out such poorly thought out plans and they seemed to comply with his words. When he was certain they would not be followed by the authorities, he sent them on his way. He then returned to his own headquarters, where there were still mutants loyal to him. Now, more than ever. Ones who believed that what he preached was true. The war had already started. With that Trask Industries was authorized to do. They had killed far too many mutants in the name of science and experimentation. When would such persecution end? It was only a matter of time before they would be forced to be branded, or they would be gathered and throw in some sort of confinement. He had seen it before, and it would inevitably happen again.
Due to Magneto's severe crimes, news spread about his escape. After all, the supposed murderer of JFK was not something they would release so easily, even if he knew he did not do it. Due to this, he had to be extremely cautious when he went around searching for others and gathering information for his next ploy. Which was why he remained out of sight for the few days following his assistance in breaking out the young mutants. But even he could not keep a low profile forever. On the fifth day, he ventured out to a spot familiar to most mutants: a shelter, an abandoned warehouse where they could have a roof over their head for the night. He did not fear being turned in by them. If they did, he could defend himself. But he also knew that there were those who agreed with his political views. Which is why this would be the perfect place to recruit. Clad once again in his uniform, he entered, standing in front of all of them and delivering his speech. He spoke of how many mutants Trask Industries, a government approved project, had murdered. Of the cruel experimentation they had undergone. His voice was strong and passionate.
He spoke of how the war against mutants had already started. How there was a genocide upon them. Government officials still hunted their kind like animals, desperate to understand their powers and willing to make whatever sacrifices, and kill however many mutants they pleased, for their cause. 'For science' as they so commonly used this excuse. Magneto then asked his question of who would stand against them. Whether there was anyone in the ground who would fight for the rights of mutants to be free and live void of constant fear. He could see in the faces of others that he had captured several in the audience. Some agreed with his views but did not join him; others agreed with him and did join the Brotherhood. And the rest, just didn't want to get involved. When he was done he stepped down and was immediately approached by a few, and then a few more after, and then a few more after that. Not every single one joined them, but he had conversations with most all of them. He did shake every one of their hands, welcoming those who wanted to join to the Brotherhood and giving them more information about it. It seemed that he was not going to have to worry about defending himself after all.

She said that she was sorry, and Erik didn't need to ask what for. He knew. He could hear it in his voice. His eyes stayed on the road ahead of him, as he slightly clenched his jaw. Knowing that someone could feel what he was feeling, was unfamiliar to him. The last who had ever come close was Charles when he entered his mind during the time Erik was tortured, and he had expressed his condolences to Erik, saying 'you poor man'. He had not wanted pity then, nor did he ever want it. After several moments of silence, he finally responded. "Never apologize for your gift," he told her calmly and sincerely. It was not her fault, and she had nothing that she needed to apologize for. She had an ability that was incredible. And he never wanted her to feel bad for expressing it, whether she could control it or not. Grateful for the change in conversation, he listened to her explain the different mutants she had encountered. One who had the ability to jump high, another who claimed he was one, though may not be. It seemed that she had not met anyone at her level of capabilities.
She was a higher class of mutant, he could tell from her abilities, and he had only seem glimpses of what she could do. "It is clear you have not met anyone remotely in your league." Praising her gift was not something that he did to win her over; he was merely stating facts, for he thought that highly of her abilities. She spoke of how he was handy in a bar fight, and his mind went to the most recent one where he was tracking down Shaw and killed three men in a bar. "You have no idea," he told her with a slight smirk, in a teasing manner and one that suggested she was quite right about her assumption. She then told him that she would not try to ever make him mad. "The feeling is mutual." He in turn, would try not to upset her. Not without a higher purpose, for when he trained her, he may make her angry in how he went about doing it. For right now, it was centered around the idea of instilling a tremendous amount of fear in her. "Apart from fear, are there any more emotions that you experience which make it difficult to keep hold of your power?" He inquired, wanting to know more so that he could plan more.

She was really making things worse for herself. Erik was already displeased with her and now she was taunting him with a rather tempting suggestion. Shoot her. He knew that was not what she wanted. She was not suicidal. She was not sacrificial. She had proven that she values her own life above anyone else's. He had believed her to be loyal to him, but he had learned that day that she was only loyal to herself. "For all that I have done for you," he began to say. He kept his eyes locked on her however used his abilities to pull out a set of hand cuffs from one of the officers pockets. He then moved them toward Lana, the metal link against her neck and each cuff pressed against the metal door. This locked her in place, and he tightened the metal chain against her throat. Not enough to suffocate her, but enough to strain her. "This is how you treat me?" Not this in the present, but this in what she had done to him; betrayed him. Left him in a cell.
He was not pleased; not pleased at all. Tightening the chain even still out of slight bitterness, he then motioned with his hands moved the entire metal door and pressed it against the wall, so that she was against it, pinned in place with the handcuffs, and he had conveniently made an exit for himself. Before he made his departure though, he went up to her, placing his index finger under her chin and tilting her head up a little. He looked at her, standing directly in front of her, their faces rather close. "Such a pitiful display," he said with a thick tone of disdain. Meaning, her. She was a pitiful display. A disgrace. Had they parted on better terms, he never would have thought her to be any of these things. But his bitterness and anger was not yet gone, even after years passed since it happened. With that, he pulled his finger away, and made his way through the now fully opened exit. When he was out of reach, the metal would release it's hold on her and she could do whatever she needed to get out of that situation. He knew she would make it out. She was after all, a survivor.
