There can be miraclesMagda watched her daughter closely. She knew that her baby was still healing, and was growing restless. She wanted to play, and Magda feared she would re-injure herself. Nina had been shot with an arrow that went all the way through her and into Magda. They both had almost died, and would have but for the long intense hospital stay. She knew Erik thought them dead, and it killed her to know he felt that loss. Magda had been in the intensive care unit for 2 weeks before waking up, and finding her daughter there with her. She hadn't known how to find Erik. So she begin with the school he spoke up. One meant for kids like Nina. One phone call, and the head of the school had a private plane come for them and special doctors there and here for them.
It was overwhelming. The professor had explained what had happened (how Erik had worked with the mutant, and then worked to bring him down and build the school here), and said he would find Erik for them, and ask him to come here. Nina was healing so much better here, with the advanced technologies that the school had, and the doctors that Charles had given them. While Nina wasn't ready to run and jump, she could walk for a short time. She needed more rest before she would be ready for more.
They were sitting in a private morning room, and Magda was reading to Nina in Polish, wanting her daughter to have both languages as she grew up. Erik had taught her the important of being bilingual very early into their relationship. Nina was resting on the couch, playing her with doll while listening. "Is Papa coming today?" It was a question Nina asked every day. Magda knew it was hard for her, for she had heard how Magda and Erik lost their parents and then saw the men take her Papa away. "You miss him very much." Magda acknowledged. "Would you rather hear a story about your Papa?" Nina nodded, and Magda smiled as she shut the book. It took effort to stand, but it was getting easier. Moving over to the couch she sat on the edge beside her daughter. It broke her heart that she couldn't lift Nina right now. They were both healing. So instead Magda told Nina a story about Erik--a happy one.

Peace WAS NEVER AN OPTION Erik knew how much his friend wanted him to remain among them. As if to provide that support for him. But, Erik knew he could not. This was not his home. He had no home. Home had been where his wife and daughter were. Where they had all been happy. Recent events had taken a toll and Erik slipped into isolation for the first few weeks, until he knew that the Brotherhood was expecting his return. An organization he had started, and one that could thrive, now that he had returned. Just as after Shaw's death, his heart was still broken, returning to a former state, perhaps an even worse one. For he had a glimmer of peace and happiness, only to have it so cruelly snatched from him.
His work continued however, though there was no grand attack. It consisted mostly of protecting mutants, rather than killing humans. Magneto had an opportunity for that annihilation and he had chosen to protect his fellow mutants instead of destroy all of humanity. While he knew that there would be another circumstance where he and Charles would disagree and act differently upon, Magneto simply enjoyed what time he could where he did not have to be at odds with him. So when he was invited to the mansion -- not an uncommon occurrence -- Magneto of course accepted.
Making his way to the familiar school, walking through the doors to be greeted by Charles himself. But, something was different. What, Erik could not describe. Something in the expression on his friend's face. Something in the way he did not say much. Something in the way where led him to a room on the other end of the school practically in silence the entire way and with great purpose in each glide of his wheelchair.
What was happening? The door was closed and before either of them had a chance to open it, Erik felt Charles' hand on his forearm. And that smile. That smile he had given him. Magneto didn't understand. Nor had the opportunity to ask for Charles left him, standing in front of this mysterious door. Erik hesitated for only a moment before his hand went to the door knob and turned it. He could have done it without touching it but something within him felt the need to.
But nothing, absolutely nothing could have prepared him what he saw before him. And he hadn't a moment to process it. The sight of perfection entailed his wife and daughter, sitting on a couch, alive, breathing, smiling. "PAPA!" Erik wasn't sure if he had lowered to his knees to greet his daughter as she hurried towards him, or if his knees gave out at the sight before him. Either way, he wound up on his knees as his daughter threw her arms around him in a tight embrace. Of course, Erik returned in kind, wrapping his arms around her and nestling his face in the crook of her neck.
He didn't know what this was. And had he been of a clear mind, would have pieced together that unfamiliar expression Charles had give him. But all such things fled Erik's mind and left only was emotion. Enough to make the tears fall from his eyes as they were tightly shut, shoulders trembling, and a quiet sob or two to escape him. The last time he held his daughter was when she was dead. Or he had thought her to be. How was this possible? Erik wanted to ask yet feared the answer. Until getting it, he would just bask in this glorious feeling, never wanting to let her go again.

There can be miracles"PAPA!" Magda paused in her story telling as Nina moved quickly to the door. ERIK! She watched, her heart breaking as he went to his knees and wrapped his arms around his daughter! Magda covered her hands with her hand as tears began to fall. He was here, and their little family could be whole again! Father and Daughter and Mother would be together tonight for the first time in too long. She looked back at him as she stood and walked over to them. Her hand reached out to touch his cheek and to use her fingers to wipe away his tears, as she too knelt down to see him.
She was too over come with emotion in this moment, at seeing her husband here, to speak. Magda feared it would take Charles too long to find Erik, and she had not expected him. He knew how to hide. And yet, she felt it was the smartest choice now, with how it worked out. "Papa, I came to America to find you!" Nina told him with a shaken voice, and Magda envied her ability to speak. Resting her head to his, she just held him. Her own tears falling with his. His heart break, her fears, and the pain of seeing their daughter hurt and missing her father all came up in this moment. There was nothing else that Magda could do besides hold him. "I love you," she whispered, "We're here." He was here!
What had he said? We are her home--and they were his. He was home now.

Peace WAS NEVER AN OPTION Magda's soft touch and Nina's precious voice were things that he had thought only to experience in dreams. To have been robbed of them, meant to be robbed of all sensations and warmth that they had given him. Yet right now, in this moment, he felt them. Right to the core of his heart. When she embraced him, he moved one arm from around Nina to wrap around his wife. Her words telling him that she loved him, and his own emotions preventing him from being able to utter anything articulate in this very second.
All he could do was bask in the glorious miracle of their family being reunited. Yet the harsh reality came dawning in on him . . . that he had left them. That the consumption of anger and vengeance overcame him, to the point of being responsible for all those men's deaths. Not to mention his hand in nearly bringing the end to all of humanity. "I'm so sorry," he managed to go out, far too much of a coward to look his wife and daughter in the eyes. How ashamed they would be of him. How ashamed he was of himself. He should not have let the anger get the better of him. He should have stayed. They would have remained together if he had stayed.
Unsure how much time had passed, he finally moved his head back a little, lips moving to touch Magda's as if to further remind himself how real this was, and needing to feel her touch. Letting it linger he pulled back to then kiss his daughter upon her forehead, her words finally processing in his mind and not having the faintest idea what to say to her right now. "I love you both. So much." Because he needed them to know that; above all else.

There can be miraclesHis arm around around her, and Magda hugged him to her. The shock was so much for him, and she wanted to say more but it was hard. For when he became emotional, so did she. He told her he was sorry, and without asking she knew what would be on his mind. "Erik, we're here." She reminded him, just giving him that reassurance. She didn't want to delve in to the conversation while their daughter was here. She was trying to protect Nina was knowing too much right now. "We are safe."
He kissed her, and Magda touched his cheek. "Nina, lets move tot he couch, and you can sit with Papa." Magda said in Polish. Magda would wait for Nina to be sleeping, before she had the hard conversations with Erik. They'd lost the baby. She didn't blame him for leaving them, but she wanted to know what had happened from his voice. They said he'd helped saved the world? Yet, there were rumors here that he'd almost destroyed it too?
"Papa, carry me!" Nina begged, and Magda stood up so they could walk to the couch. Once they were sitting there, Nina in her father's lap and Magda tucked in to his side, Magda spoke again. "I came here. I knew he'd help me find you." She explained, keeping her voice as calm as she could for Nina and for him. Erik was strong, but his emotions were like Nina's and always there just below the surface. Stronger then he knew. She wanted him comfort them both. It was how Magda was, always helping others and not thinking of herself.

Peace WAS NEVER AN OPTION They were here. They were safe. No thanks to him. He had nearly destroyed so many, and he had killed so many. He had broken a vow to protect his family and . . . he couldn't help but fear what Magda would think of him when she knew the whole truth. What Nina would say when she grew old enough to understand the talk of her father and the crimes against humanity that he had committed. Nina's request made his heart swell, still trying to process the fact that she was here; that he was hearing a voice that he never thought he would hear again.
He lifted her up in his arms, never wanting to let go until they reached the couch, where he nestled her against his chest, one arm wrapped around her, the other welcoming Magda as she tucked into his side against him. "You did the right thing," he said quietly, trying to keep the tears back. He needed to regain himself, enough to have this conversation and not have to explain to his daughter why so many tears filled her father's eyes. Despite his differences with Charles, they had a brotherly bond that could never truly be severed. And Erik knew that Charles would look after his family.
There was so much he wanted to say and didn't even know where to begin. "It's safe here," he added. For mutants. He had to admit that much, that the school was a safe place. "With lots of other children," he added, forcing a small smile on his lips as he looked at Nina when he said that. They had kept her isolated from mainstream schools and overly social activities to protect her. So he knew that this environment must be new to her, to be surrounded by so many people.

There can be miraclesShe did the right thing. The only thing she knew to too. Charles had been a friend t Erik, and Magda had trusted he still was. It had paid off.
Magda stroked his hair back, still giving him time to adjust to everything. He was talking about the school, and Nina seemed to be excited to talk about it as she held tightly to her Papa, "There is a playground and I made friends! People friends!" Magda smiled, knowing that Nina hadn't been able to play much on the playground that seemed to be for the few rare younger kids here. Most were older. In their teens it appeared.
Leaning over to place a kiss on Erik's temple, Magda whispered, "Are you alright?" While Nina was talking about the slide she'd been on. She wanted to know how he was feeling. To make sure he was going to be alright. It was shock she knew. Erik had assumed his family was dead. She could still fell the fear of seeing her daughter injured. Still feel the loss of the baby no longer inside her.

Peace WAS NEVER AN OPTION Hearing Nina's excitement about making friends, playing on the playground, and so on, caused Erik to smile. It was a small one, but a genuine one. The events had not traumatized her too much, but he knew that he and Magda still had a great deal to discuss. For he had not forgotten about their other child . . . one he feared the answer of whether he or she was ok.
Erik briefly closed his eyes feeling the light kiss she gave him, asking if he was ok. He looked at her, the small smile still in place and just gave a slow nod. He wasn't, but neither were they he imagined. The sudden shame he felt over what he had done, making him wonder if she would perceive him differently. Having practically promised to change only to return to being a killer. Charles was right; he had questioned what his family would have wanted and Erik's bitter answer had been that they would have wanted to live.
Erik drew his attention back to his daughter, working to keep up in all her excitement, responding where he could with casual questions of what her favorite parts were and which friends she made. When the conversation eased, Erik looked to Magda, figuring the next question was a safe one to ask in the presence of their daughter. "What do you think of this place?" He had never been able to stay here, but he would if it was what Magda and Nina wanted. He would do anything and everything for them.

There can be miraclesHe slowly nodded and Magda imagined it was more to comfort her then an honest answer. She knew it well enough to know that if he was truly fine, he'd had said so with more ease. She brushed his hair back again and nodded back at him in silent understanding. She wasn't fine either.
His next question was one she could at least talk about honestly. Magda was a simple person, so the grand scale of the house, the amount of people here, the chaos of running to classes, and so many learning to control their powers. It was a lot to take in. Perhaps not for her. Not to be rude, however, she answer only half honestly. "It is a bit overwhelming. Your friend has made sure Nina and I wanted for nothing. He made sure she had the best doctor, and a plane with just us on it to bring us here." Magda told him. Which lead to the injuries.
"Nina, show Papa your stitches." Nina moved up on her Papa's lap and lifted her shirt a little. "She has healed so much since the doctors here helped her." Nina cuddled back into her father's lap and rested her head on his shoulder. "It hurts to play sometimes. I wanted my Papa." Magda brushed her hair back, letting Erik be the one to comfort his daughter this time. Nina needed this as much as Erik. After Erik had comforted Nina, Magda asked him more. "Where have you been?" It wasn't an accusation but more an worried curiosity. She knew he had thought them dead, and had worried what depression that would lead him too and how it's handle that.

Peace WAS NEVER AN OPTION Erik fully understood Magda's feelings about the place. It was indeed overwhelming. While it wasn't the reason Erik had never stayed, he knew the hustle and bustle could be quite a lot. But he also felt that strong comfort, of Charles looking after his family. For there was no one else he would trust to do so. "Charles is a good man," he said quietly, knowing he was indebted to him. Saving his own life was one thing, but saving the life of his family . . . Erik knew he could never truly repay his friend for all that he had done.
His gaze fell to Nina's stomach, heart aching at the sight of her injury. Of the pain she must have felt. At, hearing her say that she wanted him there. But he had been so consumed with the need for vengeance, he had just fled. Determined to kill the other men instead of stay with his wife and daughter. "I'm so sorry I wasn't there," he said, his voice emotional but by some miracle, managed to hold back the tears this time. "You are so brave, Nina," he told her, kissing the side of her head. They both were. "And you?" He asked, looking at Magda, wondering which injuries she sustained and . . . fearing the worst for their unborn baby. Her question was a far more complicated one.
He didn't know how much Charles had told her, or how much she had heard. But as always, he owed her an honest answer. It was just, a complicated one but with Nina here, he tried to make it as simplistic as possible. The bigger conversation would have to be had when they were alone. "I've been exonerated," he revealed. His innocence proven, his crimes erased in the wake of his assistance to help stop the threat of the world. He imagined Charles had helped convince them, non telepathically. While Erik knew his words should hold more joy, all he could think about was the events that led him to that path. The, dark events.

There can be miraclesErik told Nina he was sorry that he wasn't there, and Nina buried herself deeper in her Papa's arms. Magda knew that she'd soon begin to fall sleep now that she finally had her Papa. Once Nina was sleeping, she and Erik could finally speak more freely. Until then, she left her answer as vague as she could. "I have them too." She stitches. They had taken her baby from her! Blinking back tears she didn't look at Erik, not able to let him see that right now. She wanted this to be happy for Nina. Nina didn't know. No one knew the baby was gone. Her hands went to rest there, but realizing what she was doing the moved them to her lap instead.
His last words took her out of her head and she looked up at him. "Truly?" She asked hopeful, knowing this meant they didn't have to hid any longer! She'd never been able to take his name, and they had not been a family in the open because he had been wanted. Was he free from that now? "Something good came from this!" She whispered, tears on her cheeks now, as she leans forward to kiss him! Yes, this was the worst thing to happen to their little family--but if he was free they could rebuild so much! Magda clung to that hope! No more hiding!
Nina watched them but didn't say anything. Magda wasn't sure she knew what these words meant, as Nina didn't know her father was a wanted man. She had never known. All Nina knew was that one day men came to take him away and she had to protect him.

Peace WAS NEVER AN OPTION Erik's eyes fell to her stomach, swallowing because . . . he knew. From her expression, from the way her hands moved, from the location of the stitches. She would have assured him that everything was fine. That she was alright. That the baby was alright. But with how she reaction, he feared the worst. Another loss, one that she had been forced to cope with alone. Her next words brought his gaze back to her face, seeing the hope in her eyes. He tried to smile, but it came out quite faint, a small nod to acknowledge her question and confirm his words. Fortunately, she didn't expect him to say much more for she leaned forward, and he kissed her back. Needing that touch. Needing his family more than anything else in this moment. He didn't know where they would go from here, but he did know that they were together. That wherever they were together, was home.
As they engaged in casual conversation, mostly consisting of Nina asking questions about this place and sharing her experiences of it thus far, exhaustion eventually took over and she drifted to sleep. Erik watched her for a few moments, the innocence she represented so precious. So beautiful. He carried her to the bed, tucking her in, brushing a lock of her hair behind her ear and kissing her cheek. Quietly telling her to sleep well. Charles seemed to have known that he would not want to be too far from her, so he had given them adjoining rooms. It would be where he and Magda could talk, for there was a great deal they would need to discuss. He walked over to her, standing next to his wife as he watched his daughter. "She'll be ok," he said out loud, hoping it was true. "She has her mother's strength." A quality that he most admired about Magda.

There can be miraclesMagda smiled up at him, "More like her father's stubbornness," she teased him, reaching for his hand. Stepping into his arms she stood there and just let him hold her for a moment while they looked at theor daughter sleeping. Magda tilted her face up and kissed the place where his jaw and neck met. She gave him a moment alone with Nina as she walked to the other room and went to stand by the window to look out.
Nina had slept in Magda's bed until this night, but Magda needed her husband there now. Emotionally she needed him. They needed to talk about what happened, and the baby . . . the baby that was gone. Magda closed her eyes and tries to summon this strength Erik seemed to think she had when in truth she didn't feel very strong.
Yet, he was no longer a wanted man. They were free to go anywhere. She could take her husband's name and they could be a family together without fear. It was something! This horrible thing had happened, and she hated it, but then . . . this had also happened. Hearing him approaching the door Magda wiped her tears and turned to smile at him. Walking over to him she wrapped him in her arms. "I missed you," she whispered! Feeling the words from her sole to her heart!

Peace WAS NEVER AN OPTION Erik faintly smiled at her tease, as they stood there, watching their daughter sleep so peacefully. It was a simple sight, yet one that Erik would forever cherish. A sight that he thought he would never lay eyes on again. When Magda stepped out of his arms, he moved to sit on the edge of the bed, just taking in the presence of his daughter. The living, breathing being that owned his heart, just as Magda did. She was alive. His family was still alive. After several moments he walked over to the room that Magda was in, and though she wiped them, could see the slightly moistened skin of where there were tears.
As she stepped into his arms again, Erik held them out to wrap around her. "Words cannot describe how much I missed you," he said in return. He leaned down to lightly kiss her lips before drawing back, but allowing their foreheads to touch, not wanting any distance between them. "I know we have a great deal to discuss," he acknowledged. "But can it wait?" He asked in a quiet voice. "Because right now, I just want to hold you." Before he had to tell her of all the things he had done. How quickly he switched to the man who claimed vengeance on the entire world. No. Right now, he just wanted to be Erik. He just wanted to be with his wife.

There can be miraclesErik wrapped his arms around her and she felt his warmth and straight fill her. It seeped into her skin and she closed her eyes as she felt him--after too long. While Magda had never been a clingy wife, she realized how lucky she was to have him every night in her bed now. Just having him near was a comfort, and when he was gone she had felt it--felt it in her heart and empty arms. Felt it when she reached for him and he wasn't there.
"Then hold me," she whispered, tightening her arms against him, closing her eyes as she just listened to his breathing since they were so close. Forehead to forehead, heart to hear. "And never let me go." She wished that he didn't have to let her go. Lifting one hand she reached up to cup his cheek, touching him now after weeks apart. Too long.
There was something important she needed him to hear, now, before they ended up kissing or talking. Something she wanted his heart to hear, more then his mind. "Erik, I want to know something--even after everything that has happened, and knowing how it could have ended . . . I would still have married you, and stayed with you." Even if it took her life, she would have thought life with him worth it. "I love you," she whispered and then tilted her face to kiss his lips, sealing her words with a kiss.

Peace WAS NEVER AN OPTION No. He wouldn't let her go. Never again. The risk of it was too great. Losing his family again was not an option. He had lived in the hell it had thrust him into . . . he refused to be back in a world without them. When she began to tell him of how she would have still married him, despite knowing all it would cause, all the danger she had been put in . . . words failed him where his emotions flooded over. It meant more to him than he was capable of expressing. To know, that she would remain with him regardless of all the risk it entailed.
Regardless of who he was, and what he had done. How had he earned the love and loyalty of someone so incredible? He'd failed her and Nina, and yet, Magda still spoke such words to him that made his heart swell with emotion. So when she kissed him, he returned the gesture, allowing the emotions to seep into the embrace, a tear falling down his cheek. Overwhelmed but this time, in the best way possible.
The door to the other room gently shut, having barley needed to concentrate to do that small task. His hand cupped her cheek while he deepened the kiss, pausing only for a brief moment so that he could return her words as he did her actions. "I love you so much," he practically breathed, before closing the distance between them again. Tonight, just needed to feel her in every way possible. To feel her warmth where he was once cold. Later, they could discuss all they needed to. Right now, he just wanted to forget the darkness of the world and be with her in the constant light she provided.

There can be miraclesErik kissed her back and Magda felt her heart beat a little quicker, and fuller! Her husband was back where he belonged! With his family! What had Erik said once? We are her home, well, they were his too! Erik was home! In her arms where he belonged, just as she belonged in his! He told her that he loved her and her heart filled with the knowledge that this was real!
She couldn't speak more because his lips kept her's wonderfully busy. Her hand moved from his cheek to his hair, as she brushed it back, and moved it to rest on his neck. Yes, they had much to speak on, and much to talk about--but right now was not a time for talking. It was a time for feeling, and reassuring each other with the hearts and bodies that they would be alright! Whatever came with the dawn--they could over come it together! Magda knew that whatever had happened over the weeks that he thought them dead had shaken the world. She also knew that they could face it as long as they were at each other's side. Love was like that.
Stepping back she reached for his hands, and held them both as she tugged him toward the bed. Once they were beside the bed, she kissed his jaw, and then his neck as her fingers began working to remove his shirt. "I want to feel you close to me." She told him, wanting that feeling of his comfort--the one she had missed these weeks. The one she wanted when she had awoke, the one she needed while she watched her daughter try to heal, and the one she needed when she was told the baby had not made it. She didn't blame him, but she had missed him. She wanted that touch and comfort now. She wanted him to hold her.

Peace WAS NEVER AN OPTION Erik wanted that too. More than anything, he wanted to feel her. To know that the past little while, had just been a horrible nightmare. One he had finally woken from only to have his family returned to him. To be with them. To be given another chance to protect them. To be happy. He moved along with her to the bed, standing by it and taking advantage of this position, pulled the lacings of her skirt so that it fell to the ground before moving his arms so that she could take off his shirt. Slowly urging her back he moved with her, lips capturing hers once again as he positioned himself on top of her with her back against the bed.
His lips moved along her cheek, down her neck as his hand busied itself, slipping under the fabric of her shirt. It was here that he paused, feeling more than seeing the metal from the stitches she had gotten. His actions paused, taking in the injury, what it meant. The assumed loss of their baby, and the physical as well as emotional pain she had undergone from it. He opened his eyes, heavily lidded due to the emotions of well, everything, as he aligned his head with hers, forehead lightly resting on top of Magda's. He didn't know what to say in this moment, or if he should say anything at all. His lips touched the corner of her mouth in a tender kiss, knowing he couldn't make the pain go away but would do whatever he could to help ease it.

There can be miraclesIt had been one of the things she had not wanted tot ell him since she knew how much it hurt her, and how much it would hurt him. The baby had not been as lucky as Nina. She'd woke up tot he loss, and he was going to experience it twice. Magda felt his fingers under her shirt and him pause. She knew--she knew what he was thinking even before he put his forehead on his.
Tears filled her eyes and she closed them to fight the emotion. The need to be with him moved to a need to be held by him. Her shoulders shook slightly from the sadness, as she began to cry. She didn't need to say anything with words, they had been together long enough that words weren't always needed. He knew, and she knew. Her hands moved to hold him as she cried, and she finally after so long of healing without him--got to be held by the man she loved while she dealt with the loss of her baby.
"Our baby," she whispered, trying to deal with the loss. They'd not even gotten to tell anyone yet. It had been so new. The doctor said that might be a blessing, and make it easier--but for people like them who valued family before anything--it didn't.

Peace WAS NEVER AN OPTION Erik didn't have to see her to understand her. His arms immediately wrapped around her as he turned on his side so that he could hold her against him, offering support just as he too needed it in his moment. He felt the trembling of her shoulders and closed his eyes, taking a slow breath. Their baby. And yet, he had mourned all three. While it didn't lessen the loss of one, it had him very grateful for the two that lived.
"I'm sorry," he whispered. To think that they could have lived such a life. To have overestimated the kindness of other humans. But there was no anger in his voice. He didn't want to keep being angry at the world. He just wanted to be with his family. He kissed the side of her head where he could reach from this angle. "I thought I lost you and Nina," he breathed out, his voice emotional. "I thought I lost everything." Because, they were his everything. Moving back just enough so that he could see her face, he rested his forehead against hers. "We'll get through this, together." The three of them. Their family.
