Peace WAS NEVER AN OPTION To say that Magneto was uncertain about this, was an understatement. But he had to trust in the source. He had to hold faith in the Brotherhood. And that included a brother among them. The authorities were drawing in and after discussing it with those who joined his cause, Magneto knew he had to do what was best for everyone. He had to lay low. It was not something unfamiliar to the man, but everyone had see his histrionics.
Sometimes, it was far more eerie when he was not in the spotlight, for it left everyone with the fear of what ploy was being concocted. In this particular instance, there was none. Their work had consisted of smaller ventures, yet equally important ones. Aiding fellow brother and sister mutants out of experimental facilities, giving them something to fight for, validating them, and training. Of course training.
But all this would be put on hold as Magneto was to venture to Europe. There was word of a small shop -- the shop part being a front for what else took place within it. It was rumoured -- apparently confirmed -- that a woman within it aided those who were injured or sought refuge. Particularly, mutants. The concept was so foreign. Magneto had never heard of such a thing since Charles' doing such, but after diligent research into the matter, it was decided that Magneto would go. Though he was not disillusioned Accepting him -- one of the most wanted men alive -- compared to a wounded mutant, was indeed a stretch.
Never the less, the attempt would be made. Magneto had requested to enter alone so he could first survey the area. Get a feel for the woman before reaching a final decision. So, he entered, chimes hung at the top of the door alerting anyone else inside. Casually, he began to look at the different beverages available. Clad in a hat and sunglasses, for all intents and purposes, he was only a customer. And would remain until he knew who exactly this shop owner was.

God help the outcastMagda owned a little tea shop. It was hard for her to believe that she would eventually let roots grow under her feet, but as she grew older she began to want to stay in one place. To build something with meaning. To do something that mattered. So, she found a warm place in the world, not too hot, not too cold--and began making it home.
Over the years she made a made for herself in the local communities for giving palm readings, and tea leave readings to guest. The old women liked it, and it made her fell welcome. Her shop was small, but perfect for it. For now. As over the years she became known, on much more private level, for something else--a safe place for mutants to hide. She only asked one thing of them--no violence inside her shop. They'd come in in all shapes. Sometimes running from their parents, sometimes from out of town and passing by, sometimes sick with their powers affected, sometimes injured; and she'd help them. She knew all too well what it was like to be hunted and afraid. She had thought Erik was the only one, but with so may now . . . she knew what was coming. They would be blamed, feared, and eventually . . . worse.
They always seemed surprised she was human, but she assured them they were safe.
Hearing the chimes out front in her shop she called up, "I'll be right there," in the local language but her voice still help her Polish accent. She lifted a heavy box of new flavored teas in fancy tins, and carried it through the beads that served as a wall from the store room to the shop. Without looking at her guest she spoke as she paid attention, instead, to the counter so she could sit it there. "I'll be right with you." She lifted the box to the counter and pushed it back. Looking down she brushed off the dust from her shirt before turning to greet . . . her . . . cusssttoo . . . . "Erik"

Peace WAS NEVER AN OPTION There were many things that Magneto would never forget. The voices of those he deeply cared about among them. So when he heard her speak, he felt that feeling he once had. The skipping of a heart beat. The daring to hope. The . . . fear. And then, she stepped out. He watched her every move from when she carried over a box, to brushing her skirt to . . . looking at him. No disguise could mask him from her. She was one person he would never want to hide from. He slowly raised a hand to remove his sunglasses so he could properly make eye contact with her.
Suddenly, this did not seem like a good idea. Or, was it just the very opposite and an excellent one. He had once thought fate to be so cruel and unkind yet . . . if he believed in it at all, it seemed to set him and Magda upon a path where they would both meet. Now, for the third time. And each and every time, it was under drastically different circumstances. "Magda," he greeted. Acknowledged. Her name so foreign upon his lips for he had not spoken it since they parted ways. Not because he stopped loving her, but because it was too painful to remember the loss.
He suddenly felt like Erik again. Unsure how to react to her presence. There was however, an overwhelming urge to blurt out the truth about him. Unsure of what she had heard. Feeling compelled to assure her he did not kill the President of the United States. To tell her why he did what he did, and what that something was. Yet, nothing came out. Not yet anyway. "This is . . . unexpected." It was the best he could do in the present moment. The shock of seeing her, and the repercussions considering he had come in here with the intention of staying for a little while.

God help the outcastsErik Lehnsherr was in her shop. The worlds most wanted man stood in her shop. Wanted by America, but France....by her. She'd missed him. She had known she missed him, but at seeing him she realized it was so much more then she'd let herself know. Her lips were suddenly dry, and her heart was beating as if she had been running. "Magda," He said her name, and she felt her lips tilt up in an almost smile. Erik was here. "This is . . . unexpected." But not for her. She hadn't even realized she had had been thinking that he had come to see her, until his words were said. She felt a disappointment and knew it was unfair to fell that. She had walked away all those years ago. "Yes," She agreed, "But not unwelcome." Keeping her eyes on him, she walked around the counter and moved toward him. She wanted to ask how he was, what he was doing here, and so many more questions. Instead she just watched him, taking in his presence. She wondered if he found Shaw or had given up and turned his energy into what she had seen on the telly. He was stronger. She sight of his power being able to do so much was staggering. He had not been that strong when she knew him. Then he'd been shot . . . Her eyes moved to his neck, looking for the scar of the bullet. "Are you well?" She asked in a voice that said his answer mattered. Her eyes there for another moment before looking at his face. She wanted to touch him. Magda was by nature someone who touched everyone, and it felt odd to hold back. Yet she knew they were both so different people from who they'd been.

Peace WAS NEVER AN OPTION Not unwelcome. That caused a feeling of relief to run through the mutant. While he knew Magda may not hate him, he was fully aware that he had chosen his mission over her. And now . . . he had no idea what she thought of him. With all the media coverage of his actions, both false and true. He felt the overwhelming need, the strong compulsion to tell her the truth, to explain himself. He had never lied to her, nor anyone per say. While he had not thought he needed to explain his actions to a shopkeeper, Magada was the exception. Perhaps the only other person -- other than Charles -- that he could not bear to let think he had actually done what initially imprisoned him for.
Of all the crimes that he had committed, murdering the President was not one of them. "I am." He gave the simple answer. He was as well as the most wanted man in the world could be. He wanted to ask her the same, but also wanted to move beyond these surface pleasantries and uncover the true depth of where they were in their lives. Magneto watched as she moved from around the counter, and he took a step closer to her. "We have much to discuss." Because he wanted to have that conversation with her.
"But I came here today to see refuge. To have a safe place to hide for a short while. If you would allow me to." Magneto had come in here prepared to convince the shopkeeper through whatever means necessary. A political lecture, one that spoke of justice and persecution. Yet, with Magda, it was a choice. He would not force his presence upon her. He would not place her in that sort of position. And suddenly, all planned contingencies went out the window . . . because of who he was standing before now.

God help the outcastsHe said he was well, and her eyes again looked to the scar before at him. She hoped it was true. "We have much to discuss." His words were curious, as he had not come here for her. Yet she would have to question them later, as his next ones were the ones she needed to hear. "But I came here today to see refuge. To have a safe place to hide for a short while. If you would allow me to." That was why he was here. "Of course!" Magda looked to the windows then back at him, "Anything you need." Flipping the 'close for lunch' sign over she locked the door.
"This way," She turned to lead them to the back room. There she moved to a book shelf that blocked off part of a wall. Pulling it, it became clear it was a door. "This is what some did during the war. It's horrible that it's still needed." She said, looking back at him. Inside the small room was a bed, and other things to make it inviting. Though small, it didn't look dark. She had tries to make them comfortable. "This is were I normally let anyone who needs it stay, but . . . My home is through that door. We could go up stairs." And be more comfortable.

Peace WAS NEVER AN OPTION Her willingness to accept his request was immediate. While he did not doubt her loyalty, it did make him wonder just how much she knew about him. Whether she fully understood what he was asking of her. He knew he would have to explain, for he would never deceive her or have her agree to such a thing without giving all the information. There would be no need to do so for anyone else, but for Magda . . . there was every need. He followed her as she showed him the hidden room.
Words of the horror of its continued necessity rung in his ears. "Horrible indeed," he agree, his mind preoccupied with all the implications of the word. In the first war he'd been in, he was helpless. Powerless. Useless. Never again. He would not be any of those things in the war they fought every day. The room looked comfortable, but comfort was not something that Magneto required. He merely needed the seclusion it provided. When she suggested going upstairs, he nodded his head once in agreement.
"I would like that," he told her, knowing it would be far easier to have the conversation they needed to have in a comfortable place. Especially now as she closed her shop. Waiting for her to lead the way, he felt the need to comment on something else. "This is a lovely place, Magda," he told her, genuinely meaning it. "It suits you well." He was glad that she had a place to call her own. While he was aware she loved travelling, she also deserved to have a home. This home.

God help the outcasts"Thank you," Magda said, looking around her shop as she shut the hidden door and lead the way up the steps. She unlocked the door to her home above the shop and walked in. "My people . . . I grew up in the back of a wagon. Traveling around were their was work, and festivals. We thought of roots are people more then places." But with the people gone, she didn't know what roots she had. She was trying a place. "I was a little scary to pick a place and think of staying there but . . . I like it. More then I thought I would."
Her home was simple, with colored walls of yellow and paintings of wagons, flowers, and woodland scenes everywhere. Handmade blankets were on the couch, and everything was well worn rather then new. "Are you hungry? I can make you some soup? Or a sandwich! Have you eaten?" It was how she always took care of him back them--always trying to feed him. For Magda food was like air--important.

Peace WAS NEVER AN OPTION Magneto silently followed her up the stairs, listening as she spoke of how she grew up, and how accustomed she had been to travelling. He remembered that; how travelling with him had never phased it. It was more the mission itself and the dangerous it entailed that had concerned her. But alas, that was in the past.
"Well, you seem to have chose a good place to settle." Shop wise, town wise. How odd, that fate should yet again put them on the same path. The realization that she helped mutants was also not lost upon his mind, but he imagined that would get to that topic soon enough. Very soon. "I'm fine, thank you," he politely declined. Typical of Magda; always wishing to take care of him. "How long have you been opening your home to mutants?" He asked, curious as to what prompted her to do such a thing; a potentially dangerous thing with how their kind was hunted.

God help the outcastsYes, she like this place. She liked that it didn't hold bad memories, and it was brighter here then she remembered Poland being. She missed the land but hadn't returned to it since they'd left it. She would like too, but wasn't ready to embrace the memories of what had happened there. Especially not alone.
"A while." She admitted. "I was surprised to learn you were't the only one like you." That there were so many. "When people started growing afraid, and wanted them tracked . . . " Magda shook her head slowly. "It was like with my people before. Thy didn't trust us, they wanted to know how many of us there were, and then wanted us put away for safety---and then they built the 'camps' to hold us." Looking down Magda had to hold back her emotions. Not again. No people--not Jews, nor Muslims, nor Mutant should have to see that again. "So I did what I could." It made her feelt close to him. Made her think of him.
Taking a deep breath she tried to clear her head of the emotion that lingered there. "I saw you on the telly," She said, meaning the most recent time, not the earlier times when he was there for killing the president, "I somehow was both very surprised and not surprised at all." He always did have that in it. "Did . . . did you ever find shaw?"

Peace WAS NEVER AN OPTION Magneto had always known Magda had a good heart, yet it still brought admiration to his heart in hearing she would do this to help his kind . . . when so many other humans feared them and wanted nothing to do with the. Or sought to kill them. "As was I," he admitted quietly. The boat encounter with Shaw and the others having been the first revelation . . . and then of course, Charles. He looked at her as he heard the emotion in his voice. He wanted to reach over and comfort her, but also knew that he may have lost that right.
Yet, seeing her upset, pained him. He hated seeing her upset, and despite the fact that they were no longer together, did not mean all his feelings for her disappeared. Quite the opposite in fact. "I made a vow to never let that happen again," he told her. To never let a people be persecuted by powerful men in charge. For mutants, were more powerful. And that strength, needed to be displayed. "Never again." He hadn't even realized that he could not fight the urge, as his hand had reached over and touched her own in attempt to comfort. Though only let it linger for a moment before realization dawned on him, though he made no show of it.
Instead, he just drew his hand back, especially at her next words. She had seen him, seen his histrionics. Years of maintaining composed was the only thing that allowed him to stay such now. "I have done many things," he began to admit. "Things that people may perceive as unforgivable." He both didn't answer and answered her question at the same time. "But I did not kill the President." He looked at her, hoping she still believed him. Somehow, he needed her to know that. That not everything was at it seemed.

God help the outcastsErik's hand touched her's and Magda felt it in her heart. Not just on her skin, but in her heart. It was then that she realized how much power he had over her, and he didn't even need his magic to do it. She loved him still. Perhaps that was why she had never settled down for long. Because no one would ever be able to touch her heart by just touching her hand.
When he left again, it would hurt again.
His words were not about Shaw as she'd asked, and instead caused her to blink in surprise. He had not killed the president? Magda stared at him for a moment before speaking. "What happened?" She asked, knowing that Erik wasn't a lair. He never saw the need in laying. So she didn't doubt his words. She believed him. Magda knew he could have done it, he'd killed before--but he always had admitted he done it. So if he said he didn't. He didn't. "It was said you were in prison?"

Peace WAS NEVER AN OPTION Magda was giving him the chance to explain, and he knew that was more than he could ask for. Perhaps, more than he actually deserved. "He was a mutant," Magneto began to explain. "The gun fired and I tried to stop the bullet, but was apprehended by the authorities. It curved and, that was all the proof they needed." But someone else had fired that gun. Despite this, it didn't matter. They saw what they saw and he was imprisoned for a decade because of it.
"There was a secret trial and I was imprisoned." He didn't feel sorry for himself, he refused to be a victim. It just further proved humanity and the lengths they would go to to incriminate a mutant. He later gave then an actual reason to see him as a threat. "Shaw is dead," he finally answered. His tone making it clear it was by his hand. "But the President, did not deserve what happened to him." He was a mutant, and he could have been a strong ally for mutantkind. Instead, he was assassinate, potentially for that very reason.

God help the outcastsSercert trail. Imprisoned. Shaw was dead. The president is a mutant. There as so much there to react too, and she wasn't sure which one to touch one first. "I believe you," she said, a little slowly as she tried to absorb so much information. "They locked you up for it?" She asked, not liking the idea of him being locked up again. She knew that being locked up might remind him of being locked up in the camp.
Shaw. The man who had driven Erik so hard. The one he'd traveled the globe to hunt and kill. The reason they'd not been able to work--because his need for Shaw was so great. "So you found him after all." Magda assumed that Erik killed him. How could he not. It was what had driven him. She often had feared it would get him killed. Not wanting to watch him kill himself over Shaw, she'd did one of the hardest thing she'd ever done and walked away from him.
"And the new president? They are saying you were there to kill him?" She was asking him to explain, and she knew she had no right to ask it of him. Not any longer. Yet, she wanted to know. Not because she was hiding him--she'd done it anyway--but because he was the man she still loved and she wanted to know him. She somehow knew that there would be a reason for it. Something that drove him there. And she wanted to know it.

Peace WAS NEVER AN OPTION To hear she believed him, meant the world to him. He wasn't sure why . . . and he knew at the same time. Because it was Magda. Because he never stopped loving her and he needed her to know the truth, where the world wouldn't. He knew her next statement held understanding. That he had killed Shaw. For it had been that . . . obsession, that drew them apart. And what would it be now? His fight against humanity? It was always something it seemed, and Erik hated that it was.
Her next question was . . . a complex one. But she deserved more of an answer than it's complicated which is perhaps one he would have given anyone else with an inquiring mind. Still. He had opened this can of worms. He had brought it up. She deserved to know the truth. Even though getting into the future and time travel was a tad bit too complicated. He would tell her what she needed to know: the truth. "The Sentinel Program was designed to detect mutants and kill them." The program that the president and others were there to unveil to the world.
"Created at the expense of mutants, experimented on and tortured until they had what they needed to develop these machines." Emma. Azazel. Riptide. Angel. Banshee . . . just to name a few of the many victims. "I was there to make a show that mutants are not to fear this threat. That we are stronger together. And, to hold the men responsible for these machines, accountable." Meaning, yes. He could have very well killed him and Trask, had Charles and his X-Men not intervened.

God help the outcastsMagda's eyes water as she spoke, and she nodded softly. She knew that he had gone there to kill, and that he did so unwavering--and yet. She also knew the price of not speaking up. Her family. His family. No one spoke up for them until it was too late! How many had die over race and religion when she was a child? These robots . . . would have done it to another race. Another group of children with no parents.
They'd experimented on others. Like Shaw had done with him. More children growing up like that. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. "That's horrible." She said, opening her eyes to look at him. Magda was a toucher, and she'd held back so far as she didn't feel like she couldn't. Yet, he'd touched her and she didn't want to miss the chance to feel him. If they were to part again, she wanted to give him what comfort she could. Reaching out Magda took his hand into her's and lifted it to her face. She squeezed it tightly, and placed a light kiss there on his palm. "I'm glad you were there to fight for them, Erik. Like no one was there to fight for us." Lowering their hands she let him go slowly her finger tips clinging to his hand until the last second.
She lifted her hands to brush away the tears that hasn't fallen, and smiled up at him. Not a happy smile, but one that said she was strong and maybe a little proud of him--and even a little sad at the world. "It seems someone will always be the hated group. I'm sorry you fit into so many of them. After our childhood, you deserve peace." They both did, but the world didn't want to give it too them. "I knew that many were out casted and hunted. I didn't know the extent."

Peace WAS NEVER AN OPTION Yes. It was. Horrible. Horrific. And all words associated to the heinous crimes of mankind. They had both survived genocide, only for the world to bring forth another one. But he was silenced as he watched her lift his hand to her cheek. The warmth of her skin creating an instant comfort within him. One he had no business in basking in . . . yet selfishly, he took it.
Watching her with soft intent. He had always kept his walls up with others -- the exception being Charles as the man was able to access his deepest memories. But with Magda, she had seen him at his darkest point. At his most vulnerable. There was an impossibility to keep that guard up in front of her. He felt the immediate deprivation of her touch, more keenly felt after her soft lips touched his palm, but despite his desires, did nothing to keep the contact. He just let his hand fall back into place, working to focus on her words instead. She understood. Even though she was not a mutant, she still understood.
"Never again, will I be helpless in the wake of genocide." His mother died because he couldn't control his powers. His father too. He should have town that camp apart. He should have killed every man who dared harm an innocent life. "As do you," he told her, speaking of peace. And though she seemed to have found it here, he also knew he had to be honest about how these arrangements would endanger her. The last thing he wanted, was to put her in harms way. "This is scratching the surface," he told her. This was only the start of it, but getting into the grim details would perhaps be a conversation for another time.
"My presence here will not be like the others," he began to tell her. And not because of their history, but because of who he was. "I understand if the risk is too great. I would not want to put you in harms way." If she was caught housing him, she too could be taken and held accountable. Just like all those people who had hid others during the Holocaust. If this was her peace, then he did not want to disrupt it, for he knew he would never find his own.

God help the outcasts"Never again, will I be helpless in the wake of genocide." No, she could see that he was stronger now, then he had been before. Not just in his powers but in his resolve and purpose. In a way she was proud of him, even if she was sad that this was happening once again. No one learned from the past. It would forever be repeated with other people. There would always be some who sought to control another. He explain that it was just starching the surface and Magda looked away, not wanting to know all that he might have seen or knew about. That the children she had hidden knew about. She'd once see it too.
"My presence here will not be like the others," Looking back to him, she knew what he meant. He was a wanted man. Not simply for being but for daring to fight back. They would go door to door if needed to try to find him. He wouldn't be safe here if they thought he might be here. "I understand if the risk is too great. I would not want to put you in harms way." He was worried about her? Magda's heart beat a little faster. She liked that he worried about her. She knew there was so much between them, but knowing there was still something . . . It helped the hurt that she knew would come when he left. "I know the risks, Erik, and I will gladly take them. I am not going to stop. What they are doing it wrong. I don't have your magik, I can't fight them but I can do this." Help his people this way. "and . . . and it's you." Which said so much with just three words. She loved him still. "You've always been worth the risk." It was saying almost too much. Magda knew it.
She needed her hands busy, so she turned to pick up the kettle and walked to the sink. She'd make them both some tea. And something to eat!

Peace WAS NEVER AN OPTION She was willing to take the risks. It both warmed his heart and made it ache at the same time. The irony of this entire circumstance. His war was with humans, and yet, Magda was a human. One willing to take such risks to help mutants. With her history, her painful past, it made sense. But . . . seeing it, hearing about it, made him question things. Things that he could not question right now. And then she had said it.
That he had always been worth the risk. Perhaps she realized the meaning and implications of her words, for she got up and started to make tea. Yet, the statement hung in the air. He almost didn't want to address it, knowing it would elicit emotions he had long put to rest. He wanted to tell he was not worth the risk, but remained silence. It was worth the risk to help a mutant, but . . . this wasn't about her protecting a mutant. This was something far deeper, far emotional. And he felt that in the core of his heart.
"What of a family Magda?" He asked, not moving from his chair as he all too casually asked the question. "Have you any?" He was genuinely curious. Did she had a husband? Children? Did she continue to risk all with a family involved? He was inclined to think not, but knew the only way to get the answer was by asking. And . . . even if she had a husband, a child, any family in this world, he would ensure nothing happened to them with his being here . . . just as he would make sure nothing happened to her.

God help the outcastsMagda put the kettle on and then pulled out two mugs. She put them on the counter, and then pulled out a plate as Erik asked about her family. She'd not really tried to build a family, but she had tried to build a life. She'd have loved it if she had fallen in love and had children, but at first she never stayed in one place long enough. It was only recently that she had.
"I have some friends, but no family." She told him as she put some tea biscuits on the plate. She also put some meat and cheese there. "Never stayed in one place long enough to build more." Picking up the heated kettle and poured them into the mugs. Moving toward him she handed a mug, knowing she hadn't asked him if he wanted a drink. She knew him well enough to know that he would decline (and had already done it today) and if she wanted him to drink or eat she had to just give it too him.
