Peace WAS NEVER AN OPTION Erik felt a bit conflicted. On the one hand, he was glad that no one she loved would be put at risk but on the flip side, he knew how much Magda valued family. How much she had wanted one. Yet, with family came risk and the danger of losing them. They both knew about that all too well.
"Would you want to?" He asked, wondering where her mindset was about the subject. "I only ask because I know how important family is to you." He wanted to make that clear. That he was asking out of genuine curiousity. Trying to learn more about the woman she was now, and whether she was vastly different from the one he had met over a decade ago. She still held the same traits, evident in the way she prepared food for him. Still nurturing, still kind. All the same endearing qualities that had drawn him to her back then.

God help the outcastsTaking a careful sip of her tea, Magda let it warm her as she thought about what he asked. Yes. Family was vital to her culture, and so important to her. Yet after loosing her whole family she'd had to reinvent herself, and during that process she'd fallen in love with Erik. He was her only family. Even if they were not together, he would always be her family. Even if she married another, Erik would still be her family. They'd begun when they were so long, she didn't remember a time when he wasn't apart of her world.
"I do," Magda admitted, smiling softly, "I want it very much. One day. When I don't have to do it alone." When she'd met someone who put her first, and someone she loved. When she met someone that just fit her. She had thought Erik might have been that, but his mission had come before his own life, and had gotten between them. Magda had walked away, unwilling to watch him slowly kill himself over hate. She'd learned that she wanted someone who life with her. It didn't have to be easy, or perfect. "And you?"

Peace WAS NEVER AN OPTION Family. The answer was not a simple yes or no. While his current mission arguably did not hold the same toxicity as his previous one . . . whether he was meant to have a family or not was questionable. He was one of the most wanted men in the world. Having a family would only endanger them too. "Then I hope for that for you," he told her genuinely. He knew that in a different life, under different circumstances . . . they would have made it.
They would have been that family, had a family. But things had not worked out as such yet, here he found himself in her company yet again. As he had asked her and she'd answered. He knew it only fair for him to answer her question. "I supposed I've always wanted one." The natural path he was believed to have set on when he was a boy. But the camps had changed everything; broken so many hopes and dreams. "But circumstances don't exactly make it easy," he said with a slight smile, taking a sip of his tea. It was an honest answer, the only kind he knew how to give to Magda.

God help the outcastsNo family. But he always wanted him. The honesty of that answer made her heart beat a little harder. She knew that hadn't been an easy thing to say for him. It was a conflicting emotion--to know he hadn't found love and a family after her. There was a heaviness to being but sad for him, and another feeling lurking just under it. "You know Erik, not matter how many years go by, You are still the closest thing to family. So maybe we do have a family, in a way." Not the one they were talking about, but a friendship and understand that was too deep to label as just friends.
"You will always be welcome here." Even if she had a husband, and even if he had a wife. Because the love they had had been one of passion and deep love, yes, but it was also one built on so much more. They had seen things that only the other had seen. Yes there were many people affected, but they had lived through it together, and there would always been that deep bond. Unbreakable in many ways.

Peace WAS NEVER AN OPTION He took in her words and while he appreciated them, they were . . . bittersweet. She reminded him of so much about his past, and perhaps was the only one that drew better memories than any other reminders. He tried to keep his emotions contained, but just as lying was futile when it came to Magda, so was suppressing how he felt. Still, he held his stoic nature and looked at her, letting her words absorb in the form of comfort within him.
"Thank you," he said appreciatively when she spoke of how he was always welcome here. She was right about that though. For while he knew his fellow mutants brothers and sisters were 'family', no one came as close to it as Magda . . . and she was not even a mutant. Which was not something he even considered a barrier in this battle against humanity.
"Perhaps you're right," he began to tell her. "You too, were the closest I had to family since my childhood." Since his parents. "Perhaps, if things had been different . . ." He took another sip of his tea, a small smile on his lips, thinking fondly of the time they had together despite the way it ended. The circumstances had not been ideal, just as these ones were not either. And he would not put her through that again.

God help the outcasts"I don't know. I am very fond of those memories." She smiled before, she sat her tea to the side and ran both hands through her hair while exhaling in a sigh. "I don't think I really understood everything because then. Not like I do now." She gestured around her meaning, she had not thought about how the world would change and this would still be happening. She had understood his drive, but she hadn't been able to watch him slowly kill himself for it. Now she understood his purpose and need to do what he did. The world needed someone to speak up.
The world needed him.
And yet . . . "It must not be easy to have so many look to you." She told him, knowing that it meant he couldn't make a wrong choice without it costing him something--sometimes it was people's opinions of him, sometimes it was lives. Many called him a terrorist, and fanatic--but she was hiding mutants who ran in fear. The world reminded her of her childhood and if no one spoke up the camps would come again. "I'm proud of you Erik. I've missed you, but I think you've become who the world needed. I'm not sure you could have done that if things between us hadn't ended." She would have held him back? Maybe. "I think you're mother would be too." A woman she hadn't known, but had come to know though her son.
