Everything that Erik had feared was confirmed. He had left on a mission to uncover the truth, one that he left the details out of to everyone, including Magda. Especially Magda. He had merely been ambiguous, not lying about it, but not offering detail either for he did not want to inform anyone of anything until he had something concrete to tell them. And now, unfortunately, he could no longer hide his suspicions . . . for they were suspicions no longer. He had discovered the truth and it was time he face it by telling Magda first. Withholding this would not be right, even if it would make everything simpler. It was a lie Erik could not tell; a lie of omission. And should one day the truth be uncovered by someone else and forcibly revealed, he knew that those involved may never forgive him. So first, he would tell Magda, and then, he would tell Polaris. Because those two were the primary ones involved in this.
He had only just returned but did not wish to waste a moment. It was late and it would provide them with a chance to talk as the other members of the Brotherhood settled for the night. He made his way to Magda's room, his own mind not having fully acknowledged the truth. He was unsure as to how he was going to speak the words that his own mind had not even accepted. He could not let it show how deeply it affected him though. He needed to suppress his emotions . . . though that had always been a difficult task when it came to Magda. And he had a strong feeling that this conversation would raise events of the past; ones that had caused them both pain, one that had forced them to separate . . . one that involved the death of their unborn child. But this had to be done. He had to tell Magda that Lorna Dane, aka Polaris, was his daughter. With that in mind he pushed open the door to Magda's room, closing it behind him as he stood near it. "Magda," he greeted, knowing that this could not be how their usual reunions were whenever they returned from a mission -- together or individually. It often involved intimacies that went on well throughout the night. But not now. He knew he had to tell her before he acted on any desire he felt for her, so would not waste a moment. Magda was laying in her bed, and staring at the wall. She was tired from the day, and lonely. Normally Erik would have been by her side, but for now he was gone, off doing something she knew was hard for him. Oh he never said it, and she'd not ask him of it, but she could tell something had been bothering him, and that he was seeking more information. Had it been a threat or something dangerous then he would have been open about it. However, he was something that clearly he needed time to deal with.
While he was gone she had taken charge of the brotherhood, or most of it. Polaris has also taken charge of it, but thankfully they avoided each other most the time. Polaris was a jealous woman, and Magda could only assume was hateful because she wanted to be where Magda was--Erik's bed. Polaris would not be the first, nor the last to want to claim him, however Magda had been his first love, and seen him in ways that no one would ever see him. Ways he allowed her to see him in for she was special to him.
Hearing her door open, she pushed up, then smiled as she moved toward him quickly. "Magda," He greeted, and she knew--just by how he said her name--that something was wrong. "I must speak to you regarding something of paramount importance." Coming to a slow to stand before him she reached out her hand to take his. Something had happened, and he did not look at ease about it. "Tell me," She asked of him, "and let me help you deal with whatever it is." Because together they could handle anything.

Magda was, as always, expressing her support despite not knowing what was troubling him. But she knew him so very well. She always had. This time however, he feared that he could not be the only one to derive comfort from her. For she would be more hurt by this than him. With her having taken his hand, he sat at the edge of the bed, gently pulling her with him so that she would sit next to him rather than him asking her to sit down. He turned his head to look at her, knowing that averting his gaze would make him a coward. He could not let his emotions cloud his speech. He had to remain as he always did, withholding his emotions though it seemed nearly impossible in this particular circumstance. "I have had suspicions about Polaris," he began to say, at first, leaving out what kind of suspicions those were. He knew that Magda and her weren't incredibly close, but Magda was often caring to most everyone. He wondered if things would get worse or better after this truth was revealed . . . though deep inside, he knew full well which one it would be.
"Her powers and her blood type just to name a couple." Things that could on the one hand, be pure coincidence, yet deep inside, Magneto had felt it was more than that. And he tended to trust his instincts and gut feelings quite often. "I went to where she was raised to inquire about her former family." For her family was now the Brotherhood -- and technically, him. He knew he would have to switch the timeline of the telling of events, to bring some context into this. "Her mother was a woman I was acquainted with many years ago." For only one night. Not long after he and Magda had parted ways. "The events of that single night, resulted in far more than I could have ever expected." Magda was no fool. As he continued, he knew the story was connecting more and more, but he also knew that he could not leave it ambiguous. He needed to say the words. Make it real, even if it did not feel real to him yet. "They resulted in Polaris." He needed to be even more clear. He just needed to say it so that he would never have to repeat it to Magda. "She is my daughter."

Erik pulled them toward the bed and sat down, so Magda joined him, curling her legs so that they were tucked between them, and his hand could go comfortably on her lap without stretching. "I have had suspicions about Polaris," The new girl? Was she not who she said she was? Erik had had so many betray him. She wished this one hadn't. Magda did not get along with her, but Erik had enjoyed training her, and her powers were very useful.
"Her powers and her blood type just to name a couple." This was unexpected. What had that to do with betrayal? "I went to where she was raised to inquire about her former family." Magda squeezed his hand, giving him the support he needed. Something about the girl was troubling him, and she wanted to make sure he knew that he didn't have to do this alone. "Her mother was a woman I was acquainted with many years ago." Wait, he knew her mother? "The events of that single night, resulted in far more than I could have ever expected." "stop," She whispered, and either he didn't hear because it was so soft or he knew he had to press on. "They resulted in Polaris." She dropped his hand, and moved back on the bed, staring at him. "She is my daughter." No. No, Ania was his daughter. Not this mad little hellion with . . . the powers. The ego. Blood type?
Magda pushed from the bed to stand, righting not to grip her arm over the tattoo of her daughter's name. One that had died! Because of this war the with humans, because of his hunt for that evil man who killed his mother! She didn't blame Erik for Ania but she knew had she left when he told her too that Ania would have been alive and this . . . this was proof. And for him to have a daughter that . . . that was . . . .
He'd gone to Polaris' mother shortly after them. The age! Oh shite the age! Magda took a step back but her eyes never left his face. Magda's head slowly jerked right and then left and the shaking her head to say 'no' became smoother as she begin moving. No. No this wasn't true! This wasn't true!

He could see it in her eyes. The shock. The hurt. The inevitable reminder of the loss of their own daughter. He had known what being a mother had meant to her, even if he had not shared the same acceptance of being a father. But this was not what he had wanted. He had not wanted to cause her pain, or to have a child with anyone else. With a woman who he had not even thought twice of at the time. He would not justify his actions, nor could he apologize for them. But nor would he walk away from her when she was this upset. Comforting others was never a strong suit of his, but Magda and a very select few were the exception to this. For they were more than just acquaintances. More than just fellow mutants. He too rose to his feet, looking at her, remaining calm and composed. After reuniting after so many years, this was the first time they had been united and shared the same goals and beliefs. He feared the undoing of that based on this revelation. But he would not give up that easily. He was after all, a very stubborn man.
Taking a small step toward her, he broke the silence. "If I could have spared you the pain of this, then believe me when I say I would have." But he could not. He could not keep this from her. He did not withhold anything of great importance from her. And she was the first he had to tell this too, even at the risk of fragmenting their relationship. "But I can not deny the truth." Not to himself, not to her, and not to Polaris. "I am sorry, Magda, for what you feel in this moment." It would never be his intention to hurt her, regardless of how this pattern seemed to repeat itself. He knew this was difficult for her, and he would not dismiss that. He would acknowledge it, even if it may not help all that much.

He stood up, and moved closer, and Magda held up her hand to stop him. It was a small gesture that she knew would only work if he allowed it, but thankfully he did not touch her. "If I could have spared you the pain of this, then believe me when I say I would have." Pulling her hand back, she folding them over her chest, making a protective wall that would help hold her together.
"But I can not deny the truth." Cannot. Not will not. He could not deny this because he wanted it? Did he want a child now? Was this what he wanted? She'd have given it to him if she'd known but instead he had found one with another, and so close to the time when their child had died! He'd sent her away and then found another HUMAN to be with!
She knew Erik had been with others, and so had she, but the timing! It was so close to them, and at least she had waited years before she found comfort--what little to be had without him--with another. "I am sorry, Magda, for what you feel in this moment." Sorry. The aftermath of mistakes. She was sorry too.
"What do you intend to do?" She asked, trying to understand what was happening now, since the past was something she could only feel pain over, the future would be what brought on more.

She asked what he intended to do, and truth be told, he had absolutely no clue. He knew he had to tell Polaris. He could not lie about something so grand, but he also had to collect his thoughts and think of how he wanted to proceed. "I am unsure," he admitted. He often had a plan; he knew exactly what needed to be done. But that was always when it came to the fight for mutants. Never did he think he would have had to make a decision such as this one. And now faced with it, he was completely unprepared. "I must tell her," he added. Magda needed to know that; regardless of what he chose to do, he had to tell Polaris and made Magda aware of this. "I never expected nor wanted this," he told her truthfully. The idea of raising a child had never been something that he had entertained. Perhaps when he was younger, before the the war, but never after that.
But, in this case, the child had already been raised. And she was at a point in her life where she was a loyal Brotherhood member. Loyal to the cause. Loyal to him. On what grounds could he reject her?"But now that it is here, I can not ignore it." Now that Polaris was here, with him. It almost seemed like fate had brought them together in such a way. If he believed in it, he would have most certainly thought exactly that. "What is it you would have me do?" He asked. He knew part of what needed to be done, but seeing how upset she was by this, he felt the need to question what she expected him to do, and not in an entirely rhetorical way either. What would she have him do? Reject his daughter? Act as if he had no blood relation with her? Continue on with their lives as if this had never happened? And of course the unanswered question, what did this mean for him and Magda.

"I am unsure," He was unsure. Which meant that he had come to her before he had made a plan. "I must tell her," At least a plan beyond the act of telling Polaris about him. Had she been anyone else, Erik would have waited until he had a plan in place before telling her about his daughter, and that thought should have comforted her but right now she only felt . . . . cold. Yes, she felt cold. In her fingers, and arms, and toes, and body. It felt as if the warmth at seeing him, and holding him again after his trip was leaving her.
"I never expected nor wanted this," She knew that. How had he reacted to Ania? It had been to send her away. Before Ania dead! After Ania died! It had always been to send her away! It was always the mission! The mission or now his daughter! Everything was always more important, and she was always the one getting left heartbroken and feeling alone because he had to do what he had to do! For once she just wanted him to pick her! TO do something with nothing else in mind but---No. She would not think these things. It was pointless.
"But now that it is here, I can not ignore it." No, of course not. That would be be foolish to ignore a connection that served the Brotherhood so well. "What is it you would have me do?" "I would have you make your own decisions and not ask me to make them for you." That was harsh and she knew it. Lashing out to hurt him had not been her plan, but once the words were out she couldn't find the guilt needed to apologize.
"I imagine she is going to be right pleased with you soon." The little hellion had been seeking Erik's favor since she had got here. "Perhaps I should thank you for the courtesy of telling me first." Ah! Finally, something where she came first. Magda hated her bitter thoughts but they seemed ramped in this moment. Turning from him she walked toward the drinks trolly, and poured herself a bit of his scotch. Upon second thought she poured more, noticing that her hand was shaking. Slamming the bottle down the lights blinked. Anger, bitterness, heartbreak. it was too much. Picking up the glass bottle she threw it at the lamp to make it stop blinking.
After downing the drink, she coughed and turned to face him. "Why did you not tell me before you left? Or when you began to wonder?" These words were not spoken bitterly, but more confused and heart broken. Why wait to drop the bomb?

She spoke of how she would have him make his own decisions yet she reacted angrily when he told her what part of that decision entailed. He was not going to argue this point, as he had not expected her to be pleased with this news. He would choose carefully the words worth saying, and not state them in attempt to further provoke or antagonize her. He would say whatever was necessary, even as she spat out bitterly sarcastic words before pouring herself a drink. He refrained from suggesting she not drink it, for she was not a regular consumer of alcohol and drinking it now in her angered state . . . well, he knew full well what it may lead to. But he imagined that telling her so would just further enrage her so as before, he remained silent, simply watching her and allowing her to get her words out after tasting the affects of the unfamiliar drink. The question she asked were finally words that required a response, for they did not seem to be ones meant to be taken rhetorically. He paused for a few moments after she asked them, not because he was unsure what to say, but because he was just letting her settle before he answered. At least she tossed the rest of the alcohol -- or at least what was out.
"Because I was not yet certain that there was anything to tell." A simple, direct response, but nevertheless, one that was true. "It would not have done any good to tell you before. It would have left you in an anxious state during the time I was away, only to come back and deflate any hope that it was not true that you may have had." He'd had enough stress over the idea of it and he was not going to pass it on to anyone else. "I know that there was nothing I could have done, or can do, to ease the pain that this truth has caused for you." Children. A very sensitive subject between the two of them. If he had ever wanted children, Magda would be the woman he would have wanted them with. But considering this had been entirely unplanned . . . well, there was no use in thinking of what ifs and regret. As he had said, what was done was done, and he could not undo it. He then remained quiet, not speaking unnecessarily as he let the answer to his question settle in, bracing or preparing himself for her reaction, as he was doing during this entire conversation.

He would not have had her worry. She could have had time to adjust to this, to let it seep into her slowly but instead it was like a slap in the face. Perhaps it would have been worse the other way but now they would never know. He was telling her first, but he was still telling her something that could not and would not be changed. He wanted THIS daughter, but had not wanted HER daughter. For whatever reasons, he had accepted this one. And intended to tell Polaris, this share in the joys with the little green haired bitch.
"Sensitive. Yes. This is that." She had lost a daughter, and this was hard for her. No, that was unfair for even Magda had admitted to Erik that first night back that she understood. They were in the kitchen and she had explained her tattoo was a way of honoring their daughter, and knew that in his way he was doing the same. Only right now she was hurt, and not thinking of her words. "You were right. When you tried to send me away to be with my people. You were right." And her refusal to admit it then had cost her Ania. "Looks like we have proof of that now."
Because this daughter, raised away from the war he had not known he was moving toward then, was alive. "I should have listened. I should have done has I was told." Moving a few steps toward him, she looked up at him, still staying out of reaching. "As I will do now. What would you have me do?" Turning his words on him. She wanted to know what he expect of her, and with her tone was hurt, letting him know that even if he expected things from her, he might not get them.

Magda spoke of how he had been right when he tried to send her away all those years ago. He had believed in the decision he had made at the time but it wasn't about being proved right. That had not been his intention, and it was not what he had thought of when they received news of the death of Ania. He also knew that Magda was upset, but if she wished to speak such things, then he would not discourage her from doing so if it was how she truly felt. His words were not ones meant to intentionally hurt her, but she had presented the subject of Ania, and he would respond to it. "Then say the words, Magda that you have been harboring all these years. Place the blame of Ania's death at my feet; at my inability to fully embrace the role of fatherhood. And in that, sending you and Ania to settle in a better life than any I could have hoped to offer." At the time, things had been very different -- even he had been very different. He was on the hunt for Shaw, unsettled, consumed with the need for revenge. And now, he was leading a team of mutants, still with a purpose but a far grander one than the mere death of one man.
"But my actions then do not contradict my own now. I still stand by what I said, which is that I am incapable of raising a child." But Polaris was fully grown. She was here, willing to fight for the Brotherhood, for the cause. "Ania has nothing to do with Polaris. They are both separate and unique circumstances." He had already spoken of how he understood she was hurt, but he also wanted her to know that he was not going against his former reasons for not being a father to Ania. He wasn't even sure he was going to be embracing Polaris as his daughter, even if he did tell her this truth. Magda then asked him what she would have him do, and as he had spoken similar words to her, he returned the favor. "Whatever you feel you must." He could not beg her to understand. He could not order her to stay if she no longer wanted to be here. He did not see this as a choice between both women; if it had been that, then perhaps he would not have told Magda so soon after finding out himself. Besides, he was not one to command her or order her . . . it was different when in the midst of battle, and it was another matter when it involved their relationship.
