They say bad things happen for a reason There were many things that gave a person comfort. Hearing their daughter's laughter was high on the list. Having a safe life was another. Magda was grateful for both. Her lift had not always been so safe, for she'd seen horrors that no one should ever have to see in her life--and she'd been a child when she survived them. Then she'd spent a few years in an unstable family, moving often out of fear rather then need for work. Moving on she'd taken command of her life and enjoyed it, embracing it while traveling all over Europe.
That was how she'd found Erik again, and from there a whirl wind of excitement followed. Yet as life moves on, things happened. In her case, Ania. Her daughter. Erik had found a house, and left her here while he went off on his mission to find and kill the man who had killed his mother. He visited when he was close, but it was not until after he killed Shaw that Erik returned. And just in time to enjoy his daughter's first years.
However, he left for some work with the brotherhood, and Magda had never heard from him since. She assumed after a few years that he was dead, even while she still prayed he was out there. As the years turned more and more, she began to stop looking at the gate expecting him to be there. And when her daughter turned ten, Magda decided to tell her daughter that Erik was in fact dead--for he would not stay away this long with no word. He wouldn't do that to her.
The house they lived in now was a small cottage by the sea, with their front yard a rough grassy truff while their backyard was fifty yards of sand before unlimited water. No one lived out here, so she was mostly alone; yet a trip to town only took about twenty minutes. Down the beach about half a mile was some caves that Ania and the dogs liked to play in, which is where they were when Magda took her gardening tools out to the small green house beside the house. However, she might have lied before when she said that she no longer looked at the gate---because what she saw this time made her freeze in place.
But no wise words gonna stop the bleeding

Erik was making his way to Magda's house. A great deal had happened in the last couple of decades of Erik's life . . . or well, Magneto's life. The start to unexpected turns had been when he'd been reunited with Magda. He had made her a promise, one that said once he had killed Shaw, then he would be with her. That was what he believed would be possible at the time. And while he kept to his word, he had not been as permanent as he had thought. For his eyes had been opened to the struggles that mutants face and he had wanted to -- needed to -- do something to stop the threat of humans. So, he had formed The Brotherhood. Though it was also during this time that Magda was with child, and gave birth to their daughter, Ania. Erik had spent what time he could with them, however still attempted to keep the Brotherhood alive. It was not until he went to Dallas, that everything -- once again -- changed.
He had tried to save the President, and instead, had been arrested for his assassination. This cost Erik ten years of his life as he was imprisoned and unable to make any contact with the outside world. That is, until he was released and he wasted no time in returning to his goal of saving the mutant race. All that had happened had resulted in him being one of the world's most wanted men. Yet he still felt comfortable and confident coming here. For no one would know of any ties he had to this woman nor this location. It was remote, and it was safe. And it wasn't as if he himself feared humans. He merely did not want Magda and Ania to be punished for his crimes. He had waited for some time after everything had happened -- after his actual attempt to kill the current president -- before returning to the house he had set Magda up in. He knew their daughter would be about ten now and wondered what Magda's life entailed now after so long of not seeing her.
Clad in his regular attire and a hat and sunglasses to further conceal his vision, he made his way to the gates which he pushed open, he paused for a moment, taking in the sight of the house. After ten years of imprisonment and the following time spent running around, trying to stop Raven and then execute his own plans . . . it felt a bit odd to be at a house. To be in one with Magda and their daughter. That is, should she grant him entrance. He would not blame her if she felt it better Ania not know who he was. He was unsure if she knew of his fugitive status but did not plan to keep such a secret from her. He caught sight of her, as she looked at him, able to see the shock on her expression. One that was to be entirely expected whether she thought he was dead, had abandoned her, or knew he was a wanted man. He took off his sunglasses as he calmly approached her, maintaining all composure though it had been over ten years since he'd last seen her. Yet the emotions of seeing her again, stirred in his heart. "Hello, Magda," he greeted in an all too casual tone that almost suggested that nothing had changed.

He took a step forward and Magda took one back, and for every step forward he took after that she took another one back until her back pressed against the wall of the cottage. It wasn't fear that made her do so but something else that had taken over her body. She felt so surprised and shocked to see him that she could only stare with wide eyes, and jaw hanging open. The basket of tools that was in her hands, slipped from her grasp and fell to the ground.
He was alive! Or a ghost come to hunt her. Her breathing deepened and quickened slightly as she only stared at him. Even when he spoke she did not react to it, only finding that she could do nothing more then look at his face. He did look alive, rather then someone here to hunt her. He moved, he breathed, he . . . had been gone ten years with no word.
Blinking slowly a few times, Magda began to come out of the numb shock and realize what was happening. Erik was back, and greeting her as if he was back from the store rather then his life apart of them. Where had he been? Why had he not sent any word to them? She breathed in a deep breath and opened her lips to speak but then it faded back. She wasn't sure what to say.
Grateful that Ania was gone for the moment, because she had told her daughter that Erik was dead. That her father was dead and that was why he'd stayed away--because he wasn't coming back. Only now she looked the lair. Had he abandoned them? What could have kept him away? Leaning there against the wall, Magda closed her eyes and took an unsteady breath before looking up at Erik again. "Erik," She spoke his name softly, and with a mix of expectancy and a lot of confusion.

Erik could easily see the shock on her face and it was of course to be expected. If her expression was void of surprise, then that would have been cause to be concerned. He allowed for a few moments for her presence to sink in and be acknowledged in her, though he knew it may last well after she spoke her first words ... which eventually did come. It was mixed with an array of emotions, but Erik did not bother dissecting them. He instead, unwavered in his demeanor. He let a few moments of silence follow her speaking of his name, before he broke it with his own words. "Shall we go inside?" He asked, so that they would not have to have the inevitable conversation outdoors.
"We have a great deal to discuss. As I imagine there is much you would like to know and require explanation for." His absence being the main one. He wasn't sure what she had thought his absence to mean, but he could certainly think of a few possibilities. And yet none of them were probably close to the truth. For the truth was so bizarre and unexpected that surely only a mutant with precognition would have been able to foresee it. Erik waited for her to respond, not wanting to force his presence upon her, but was rather hoping she would allow him the opportunity to explain himself and was relying on her potential burning curiosity for answers as to why he disappeared without a word.

He was alive. And here. And alive. . . . and here. "We have a great deal to discuss. As I imagine there is much you would like to know and require explanation for." After years. And he expected her to just go inside? No greeting. No kiss. Not even a you look well. If she could have moved away she would have. However the wall behind her kept her where she was for an extended moment, before she turned to face the wall. Taking a moment to clear her thoughts, she inhaled a shaken breath.
Turning back toward him, Magda folded her arms around her, feeling very abandoned in this moment. "Yes, of course." There was distance and slight formality in her tone. Had he spoken other wise to her, she would have embraced him, and cried at the sight of him alive. However, Erik was always formal and never showed anything on the surface. She wasn't even sure what was happening here. Turning, Magda led the way inside, leaving the door open for him to close it after. Now what? "Would you like a cup of tea, or anything to drink?" Surely that was the polite gadjo thing to offer? "Perhaps something to eat?"

She turned away for a moment before returning her gaze to him and agreed to his suggestion. They silently made their way into her house, and once inside, he closed the door behind him. He proceeded to take off his sunglasses, tucking them in his pocket for there was no longer any need of them. Just as there was no need for his hat, which he also took off and set on the table. She asked him if he wanted to drink or eat anything. How very, Magda of her. Always nurturing. Always wanted to take care of him, and others. "I am quite alright," he told her truthfully. Besides, he had not come here to have her make a drink or a meal for him. He had come to talk to her. To explain what had happened that made him disappear for a decade. "Please," he began to say as he extended his hand, and with this action, used his powers to pull out the chair for her. "Have a seat," he finished, unsure if she would or not.
He knew it was his responsibility to start the conversation. But it would also be quite a grand one. So perhaps it was better he start with something more personal with her. "How have you and Ania been?" He asked, knowing his question sounded casual, but within him, it caused a stir of emotions. There was a strong unfamiliarity of speaking their daughter's name, because for ten years, he dare not do so. That of course did not mean that he had not thought of her or Magda. He had. Quite a lot. But he also knew the dangers of telling anyone of his relationship to these two women, so had never uttered a word about them. Until now, when he returned to them. Or at least one of them, for he was unsure how Magda would react to him returning into the role of Ania's father; a role that he had hardly embraced before he'd set off on a mission that would rob him of ten years of his life.

"I am quite alright," How very Erik of him. For Erik rarely allowed anyone to take care of him, and it seemed so many years did not lessen his need to be his own pillar of strength. He would never need anyone. Perhaps that was the hardest part with her trying to love him. That, and apparently being abandoned.
"Please," He used his powers, and she closed her eyes for a second, before going back to look at him. "Have a seat," "I am quite alright," Using the same tone as he had might have been just bitter of her, but one does not come back after ten years and just assume things. Had he seemed desperate to see her, unable to not even just touch her . . . she might not be this distant. Yet he was formal with her, and distant, and she wanted to hate him for it. Why was he here? Why come back not?
"How have you and Ania been?" Their daughter. He came back because he wanted their daughter? Or wanted to know if she was human . . . like he assumed her mother was. "Ten years and you want to exchange pleasantries?" Her tone wasn't angry, or accusing. It was just hurt and confused. Magda moved toward the chair but manually pushed it in rather then sat down. Leaving her hands on the back of it, she looked over at him. "I had to tell my daughter that her father was dead. Every year I watch her put flower on a stone that we call his grave. I did so because I assumed the only reason you'd be gone for so long was because . . . . . I seem to have been mistaken."

She didn't sit down, nor did she answer his question. He knew it should come as no surprise. She was entitled to be angry and immediately want answers. He had not come here under the false hope that she would immediately embrace him and not acknowledge the last ten years. No reasonable person would ever do that. "I did not mean to leave you with that assumption." It had never been his intention. For whenever he told her that he would return to her, he would. He would never lie about that. If he had planned to abandon her, he would have told her as such and never returned. But he had always planned to come back. Unfortunately, humans got in the way of that. Until now. "I have never lied to you, Magda," he began to tell her, often using these words when having to tell her a truth that seemed rather unbelievable.
There were many reasons he did not see the purpose in lying, and it came in handy when having to tell someone something that just seemed so far fetched. But was never less than the truth. "When I told you I would return, I meant what I said. It was never my intention to abandon you or Ania." He remained calm, not wanting to sound desperate to explain the truth to her. It would come out with some explanation. And then he would have to await and see if she expected it. All he could do was hope that she would. For he had not come here with the intention of quickly leaving. He had come here to stay. At least for a while. "I have come here today as it was the first and only opportunity I have had to do so in the past ten years." He wanted her to know that had he been able to come sooner, he would have. "So please, I urge you to have a seat so that I can explain myself to you." Because this was not a conversation meant to be had while standing.

"I did not mean to leave you with that assumption." No, he wouldn't. It wasn't Erik's style. Yet she knew him, and knew of his passion for his cause. She knew that he saw her as human, and knew of his hate for them. She could see it as how he might put more of himself into that, then into her. "I have never lied to you, Magda," That she believed. Erik was many things, but a lair was not one of them.
"When I told you I would return, I meant what I said. It was never my intention to abandon you or Ania." She remained where she was, waiting for something from him. She wasn't sure what it was. Something. Just anything to give her a sign of something. It was like waiting for the sea to disappear. Erik would give nothing away. No sign he missed her. Nothing.
"I have come here today as it was the first and only opportunity I have had to do so in the past ten years." Was his fighting so dire now? That there was never time to stop? How sad for that to be the life he lead. "So please, I urge you to have a seat so that I can explain myself to you." She wanted to be stubborn. She wanted to yell. To scream. TO refuse. Yet, she wanted answers, and he had said please. He had not begged, but his words were as close to it as Erik would ever come. An arrogant instance.
Magda looked away for a moment, before pulling the chair out once again to sit down on it, even though she felt instantly weaker just by doing it. Drawing her knees up, she tried to find some way comfortable to sit that would allow her to feel comfort but not appear weak. She then dropped her knees down, to sit correctly in the chair. Then she crossed her legs. Feeling annoyed, she stubbornly refused to move them again. No matter if it did not feel comfortable. She said nothing, only waited for him to decide when to explain things.

Erik watched her as she complied with his words, though he could easily detect her hesitation. And her discomfort and she adjusted herself to be seated comfortably. When she was, he pulled out a seat for himself and sat down on it, moving slightly closer to her so that the table was not between them, but rather, just some space. He sat up properly with a straightened posture, his mind formulating how to commence this explanation he had come here to give her. He knew that he would just have to say it; to blurt it out. There was no point beating around the bush or speaking of unnecessary details. This wasn't a grand story he needed to build up to. He was here to tell the truth, and that was precisely what he was going to do. After a few moments of silence, he looked at her, making direct eye contact so that she knew he was being sincere and direct in what he said.
"Ten years ago I attempted to stop the assassination of John F. Kennedy," he began to tell her. That part he felt was crucial, because he wanted -- needed -- her to know that he had not killed the president. For all the crimes he was guilty of, JFK's assassination was not one of them. "Instead, I was falsely accused of murdering him. And as a result, was imprisoned for a decade." The words fell from his tongue so nonchalantly, for he kept them strong and stated with purpose. Speaking as if it was not ten years he had lost, but merely, a few days. Yet there was nothing casual about it. The charges had been severe. And had he not been broken out when he had, who knows how much longer he would have been stuck in that confounded glass prison for. He paused before continuing, allowing those words to sink into her mind as he had dropped quite a bombshell.

To her mind, a prison was steal bars that held a man in. It was the camps, but with more rules. Everything twisted metal, and not something that Erik would have allowed to hold him. She had been surprised with his words about the American president, for she could not imagine why he'd get involved into politics of such--yet she was forgoing that for the moment because of his later words.
"You'd never allow a prison to hold." Erik wasn't one to lie but she knew him well. He was strong, and no iron house would ever be able to hold him. He controlled METAL! He'd easily take it apart long before they could get him too it. He'd told her of Cuba, surely a man capable of stopping so many missiles would have been able to keep himself from being taken. "What are you saying?"

She appeared to be processing what he had said, and expressed a rather rational thought. That he would not have let a prison contain him. "I didn't," he confirmed. She knew him well, and knew of his gifts. Had he physically been able to escape, he would have. But they had placed him in a world without metal. A cruelty yet one he had come to expect from humans. "I destroyed multiple cells until a glass prison was constructed for me. It was void of any metal." Created specifically for him; a way to trap him and render him helpless for ten years.
"It took me a total of ten years of captivity before I was able to escape." And the means of his escape had been rather complex and complicated. He wanted her to know that he had been unable to escape and that was what had kept him from her. "With my recent actions following my liberation, I had to remain elusive. I could only come here when I knew it would be safe to do so." Safe for not only him, but for Magda and Ania. He would not be reckless in plans, and seeing them had to be slightly more prolonged until he was certain that they would not be able to trace him to this address. During that time, The Brotherhood had strengthened. He was not abandoning them, but he also knew that he needed to come here for a little while.

"I didn't," She had assumed as much. Erik would not have tolerated human's once again trying to hold him. "I destroyed multiple cells until a glass prison was constructed for me. It was void of any metal." That was . . . unexpected. Magda's face showed her surprise, as never had she expected someone to create this. Was there not any metal near by? Nothing to which he could have drawn in? Erik had always found metal almost everywhere.
"It took me a total of ten years of captivity before I was able to escape." Ten years in a glass box? Ten years?! They'd kept him locked up and hidden away for ten years? "With my recent actions following my liberation, I had to remain elusive. I could only come here when I knew it would be safe to do so." Did he mean escaping? How had he done that?
She was too surprised to speak. "You . . . " Ten years. He had not abandoned them after all. Most of her anger had slipped away at that, though there was still some left. This could hall have been avoided if he'd just allowed himself to live with them in peace! To not feel the need to fight constantly! If he did not hide them from everyone in the world like he was shamed of them! SOMEONE could have told her the truth rather then making her wait ten years to find out what happened. "Re-recent actions?" She asked, trying to get the whole story for once. "You mean escaping?"

Once again, he allowed several moments of silence to pass as his words sunk in. Her tone was calmer, seeming to accept what he was saying. And that was a relief. That he would not have to convince her that this was what really happened. For he was willing to answer most questions regarding it if it provided her with more certainty that he was telling the truth. She questioned his phrasing of 'recent' actions and then asked for clarification by referring to it being him escaping. He didn't want to start lying now, so would answer her honestly. "That was part of it," he told her truthfully. He paused for a moment, considering how to explain the next part without delving deep into the story.
"There were incidents that followed that I partook in. Incidents that have branded me more of a fugitive than I was before." He knew he also had to tell her this part if he was to stay here with her. If she did not want to risk it and wished him to leave, he would have no choice but to oblige. Just as he did not force others to remain in the Brotherhood, he would not force his company on others. It appeared that she had not seen the speech he delivered on television, so perhaps he would have to explain parts of that. Though it was dependent on whether she wanted to know right now or if it would come up in later conversation. "My list of crimes is extensive, Magda. But everything I have done was to protect mutants." She was human, so he was unsure if she understood that. In the past, she had always accepted it, so he hoped that she continued to do so now. For it was especially now that he was fighting for mutant rights with greater force than ever before.

"That was part of it," Ah, there seemed to always be more with these stories. One more turning point. One more man to find. All had to be done before he could find peace. "There were incidents that followed that I partook in. Incidents that have branded me more of a fugitive than I was before." Erik had a maddening way of being able to tell her nothing to as many words as possible. She used to love hearing him talk. His deep voice had been filled with the warmth she knew he had trouble showing. Now it felt as if he was talking to her as if she was a stranger.
"My list of crimes is extensive, Magda, but everything I have done was to protect mutants." List of crimes. Extensive. Protect mutants. While a part of her--the part who had been victim to the hate and fear of others--understood his need to make sure it never happened again (and she was even proud of his fighting for them at times), the other part was sad. Because she knew everything came second to him. And because she was human (or he thought her human at least, since her powers had came after his leaving) he would never allow her to be more then that.
Perhaps, if things were different, she would even now tell him. By the way, Erik, I'm a mutant too. You're fighting for me, too. However, Magda wanted him to love her for herself. Rather then because she was a mutant. She didn't want to come second. She had learned the joy of being first to someone, Ania. She wanted that with a man too. The part that broke her heart the most was the knowlage that she would never get it. Because the only man she had loved since she was a child, was Erik.
"Are you going to tell me what happened?" She asked softly, trying to hold back any emotion in her voice, but she was not as good at him at it. In fact she was beginning to fail. "Because your words only raise more questions then answers. Are you telling me that you're wanted in the Americas? Or that you cannot stay? Or that we are in danger here? Is that why you've come back?" To warn them? "I feel as if you are trying to lead up to something, and I wish you'd just tell me. I've had ten years of suspense and I cannot bare it another moment."

She asked if he was going to tell her what happened, and he knew that meant she wanted more details. Yet, he also had not forgotten the fact that she was human. And that he had practically publicly threatened humans, stating that he would be playing a part in this war that homo sapiens had already declared. It was one thing for her to accept his hunting of Shaw; but an entirely different one for her to accept his battling a war with her own race. "Magda, I am a global fugitive." He had to tell her that part at the very least. For if she allowed her to stay here, it would not be under any false pretense. She would be made aware of the entire situation and circumstances that befell him. "But you and Ania are in no danger. I am in no danger." Because he would not be found. He was not one to always look over his shoulder, living in a paranoid state from day to day. He was confident in his abilities, and confident in the incompetence and idiocy of humans . . . most humans.
"I have come here to fulfill my promise to you and desire to remain with you and Ania." He was not here just to explain himself and then abruptly leave again. Though he was not finished fighting the war, it was best he remain elusive right now and he could not imagine spending this time with anyone but Magda and their daughter. "I understand that there is much left unanswered, and that you still must have many questions and hesitations to allow me to remain here. Yet I am asking you to trust your instincts and what you know of me." That she would trust him when he said she and Ania were in no danger. That he had not willingly been absent from their lives. And that she trusted him in general, enough to permit him to stay here.

"Magda, I am a global fugitive." He was a what? A global fugitive. How did one even become a global fugitive? Did not every country take care of it's self? How had he managed to enrage them all? A global fugitive? What had he done?
"But you and Ania are in no danger. I am in no danger." How does one become a global fugitive and not be in any danger? Everything was become less clear the more she tried to think on it. Magda just wanted answers, and Erik seemed to just want to confuse her more. She'd ask for the story, and he'd given her the ending. Had he killed someone important? Who was that important? ---- She really needed to start watching the news.
"I have come here to fulfill my promise to you and desire to remain with you and Ania." That drew her out of her mind, and from thinking on what he had done. There was a touch of surprise on her face, but she blinked it away. Erik wasn't a lair, but she was still unable to trust his words. He always left. Because they were mutants, and she was a human to him. "I understand that there is much left unanswered, and that you still must have many questions and hesitations to allow me to remain here. Yet I am asking you to trust your instincts and what you know of me." She did trust her instincts. It was why she was having trouble accepting his words.
Because he was a man who would not sit by and just let the evil in the world happen. He would always do that needed to be done no matter the cost to himself. The cause came first. It was why she loved him, and it was why he left her. "Ania is . . . she is playing in the caves near by, with her two dogs." Magda explained, knowing everything else had to come second. He put his cause before his family, and she had to be her family before his cause. "I don't know . . . " How to tell her any of this. How to keep her safe. When would he leave again? How long was he here for? Chances were Erik didn't even know. "I don't want her hurt." Not physically. Emotionally.
"I believe you. I always have trusted in my instincts with you, Erik, and they've always been right. I do not know if it is instincts or history speaking to me now. All I know is that I want nothing more then for you to be here . . . but that it's not forever." She blinked to make sure she would let the tears fall over her cheeks, and watched him, still trying to read something in his face. Because right now, he still looked at her as if she was a stranger rather then someplace he wanted to be. "If it was just myself, I would, again, take the time you give me. It would be worth it. But Ania . . . You could break her heart when you leave." Like he did to her mother.

He listened to her explain how she felt about his return. He of course understood that with Ania, it was a different matter. It changed things. He had not come here unprepared for that. But nor would he force her to make a decision. Because she was Ania's mother. She had raised the girl and he could easily admit that Magda knew what was best for their daughter. His time as a father had lasted only a short while, and embracing that once again would not be easy, for any of them. He paused for a few moments, allowing her to finish all that she had to say and collected his own thoughts in order to reply. "It was never forever," he began to tell her. "That was something you knew when our daughter was first born." Her reason for reluctance now, should have been the same reason it existed back then. For ten years ago, Magda also knew that Erik could not stay permanently. That he would not give up the cause.
She had accepted it then, but did she no longer accept it now after ten years? He could understand if the reason was that she did not want his fugitive status to endanger Ania and herself, but the reason seemed to be his elusive tendencies. "It was understood that there would be instances where I would have to leave for a certain amount of time. I understand that it was not expected for that time to be ten years." Obviously not. That was of course a significant amount of time. "But I always assured you that I would return." His meaning of it not being forever was more in terms of being permanently set in once place. "But my focus and priorities have not changed from what they were before." His focus was both Magda and Ania, as well as his Brotherhood family. "And if yours have, then I can not force you to change your mind nor offer you false words in the hopes that it will allow me to stay here." She knew what he had come for: to be with them. It was now her decision to allow that to happen or not.

"It was never forever," Magda closed her eyes, and tilted her head down as the weight of his words hit her, even though she had known them all along, they still felt like a knife. Looking back up at him, she opened her eyes while taking in his words. "But my focus and priorities have not changed from what they were before." No. No they never had altered. They never would.
"Erik," Her tone was almost regretful, and she paused a moment after his name, while she fought not to show more weakness before him. When she did speak again, her tone wasn't bitter, but forlorn; as if she had long accepted the sadness to be apart of the deal between them. "I have always known where I stood with you. I have always known that I was second to your plans, and goals for mutants. I did my best to never come between that and you, for I always knew the result." He'd fight for mutants. "I accepted that, because I love you. Because having apart of you was more then I could ever have dreamed. . . . " The but was clear in her tone.
"However, Ania deserves for someone to put her first." Magda felt a tear fall over her cheek, and she reached up to brush it away, yet before she could another fell over the other cheek. "You can stay, because I cannot deny her the chance to know you, but I cannot . . . " let him stay for her. She had not expected to say this, but now that it was out, she stood by her words. "Because when you leave this time, it will be two hearts I have to help mend, rather then just my own."

She spoke of how she had always known where she stood with him. He had not hidden it. He had always been honest -- perhaps a little too honest -- with his priorities and goals in this world. He also knew the difficulty it had placed her in, which was why they had created this arrangement. So it would be a way for her and Ania to be separated from the Brotherhood, yet give them an opportunity to be some semblance of a family. She then spoke words of love, saying that she loved him. Though not spoken in past tense, but rather, present. Her feelings had not changed for him, and he knew that was part of why it was so difficult for her to say the words she was now. She told him that she wanted someone to put Ania first. That he could stay because she wouldn't deny the chance for her to get to know him. And then when -- not if -- he left, it would be two hearts she would have to help mend, rather than just her own. He knew that this was not the most ideal of circumstances, however his life had never been a simple one. Nor could he make it so. Not while mutants were suffering. He remained silent for several moments before he finally spoke. "If I stay, then I do not want it to be as a stranger in your home." He did not want to be just some random mutant who Ania would always wonder about if they withheld the truth from her. Had he not wanted to be a father, had he rejected this role and responsibility . . . then he never would have made such arrangements.
"The decision is yours to make Magda. If you prefer to protect her from the truth of her father, then I will not betray that." He wondered if it was his ten year absence that made her realize this, or if she had felt this way all along -- ever since finding out she was pregnant -- and just had not told him. He was not one to give anything a half attempted effort and this was no exception. "But know that I feel the same for you, as you do for me." The words she had spoken of loving him, were mutual, for he felt the same way about her. "And that I do what do in the Brotherhood, to fight for a safe future for those like Ania, who are raised in a world where they live in constant fear and targeted for who they are." Because he new in his heart that Ania was a mutant. "Do not think that you and Ania come second to me." It was not about making a choice. It was about fighting for a cause that would give all of them, and other mutants, a secure future. "The fate of mutants affects us all and in order for us to have a secure future, we must fight for it." Which was why the Brotherhood existed, and why he could not just walk away from it. "So tell me now if you would allow me to be what I promised to you ten years ago, or if my absence has shifted your mindset." If she would let him stay as the man she loved and Ania's father, or if she preferred the truth of him to be left unknown.
