Erik spent the day as he normally did; following leads, destroying those who he felt deserved to die . . . the usual. But all the while, his mind was preoccupied with thoughts of Magda. With thoughts of their unborn child. Still unsure how to handle all of this. How to create a solution that would be best for everyone. He had an idea, but he was not sure if it was one that she would approve of. Never the less, they had little other choice. For if there was one thing he was certain of, it was that they both knew they could not continue on like this when the baby came. He was not out as late tonight as he usually was. For he knew that there was only so long they could put off this inevitable conversation.
Returning to the hotel, he stepped inside, noticing that she was not in the bed, but that the bathroom lights were on, and he heard a light swishing of water. He made his way to the door, not needing to open it for it was already open. His eyes took in the sight of her, looking so utterly beautiful. On normal circumstances, he would have quickly undressed and joined it. But instead, he leaned against the threshold of the bathroom door. "I see you did not wait for me this time," he said, a slight tease and reference to when he had walked in on her staring at the drawn up bath. "We should talk. Whenever you are done," he added, so that she would not feel rushed. With that, he let his gaze linger on her for a few more moments before returning to the main area of the room, taking off his hat and coat and hanging it on its holder.

It was telling that he did not join her. Magda had not heard him come in, not until he spoke and her gaze jerked to his. At first she wondered if he would come to her, perhaps even join her and given them some hope--but he did not. Just told her they needed to speak and left her there. It was amazing the power he had over her. How a sign of affection for make her world seem brighter while this made the warm bath that had comforted her feel cold.
Pushing from the water she dried and drained it. Wrapping herself in the robe, and pausing a moment to gather herself. To make sure she could walk in there strong rather then weak. When she walked into the room, Magda paused and then decided she wanted to have this conversation standing. It felt stronger there. "We should talk," She agreed, and looked at him expectantly.
The last time she'd talked, he had walked out. Now it was his turn.

Erik was sitting in one of the two chairs, holding a glass of a little bit of scotch inside. He had not expected her to join him as quickly as she had but he supposed after his words, he had somewhat ruined the otherwise calming and relaxed mood she had been hoping to build. He looked at her, not standing from his chair, but merely gazing at her, noticing she did not change into her clothing. She was just standing there, agreeing that they should talk.
He took another sip of his drink, finishing it off before he set the cup down. Still sitting, he waited to see if she would. But still, she stood. He used his hand to motion for the chair, pulling it out a bit for her with his powers. "Sit down," he urged her. It was not a command, but rather, spoken with a great calmness, a strong composure. He remained seated indicating that he was not going to up and leave again. He needed to stay here, and they needed to speak.

Magda did not react outwardly to his powers, for she was used tot hem by now. Had even embraced that side of him because she knew it was apart of him. However, it was a reminder. A reminder that this child would need support from her in ways she wasn't sure she knew how to give.
While she wanted to stand, she knew that doing so would seem stubborn and right now they needed to be on even ground. Apart of her wanted to walk to stand between his knees and drop her robe. Leaving talking til tomorrow. Instead she walked toward the chair and sat down, drawing her knees up under her. She conceded this, because she wanted him to talk, not argue with her about sitting or standing. Magda said nothing, only watched him for a sign of what he was thinking.

He watched her as she silently took a seat on the chair, glad that he would not have to ask her again. The fact that she was so quiet right now however, told him a great deal. For she was never this quiet. She was often one to talk, express his emotions, hardly ever suppress them. Yet now, he would need to take the initiative. Which made sense. As he had been the one to leave when she had been trying to speak with him about all this. Even now, he knew he had not processed everything. But he needed to force himself to be ready.
He could not afford the luxury of speaking on his terms of readiness. He continued to look at her, thinking of the life growing within her body. A life created by their love for one another. A life, that would be brought into this word as their child. "How are you feeling?" Because despite what his actions of leaving her may suggest, he did care about her well being. He knew the physical strains that came along with a pregnancy -- not from personal experience of course. So right now, before they spoke about anything else, he needed to inquire about her health.

How was she feeling. Magda lowered her gaze and looked toward the side rather then at him, almost disappointed that they would have to dance around the topic. Erik was normally so direct, and now he was not so. Taking a slow deep breath she looked back at him, and decided on honesty rather then lashing out with 'hurt' or 'alone'. While both emotions were what she felt, it would do them no good to try to hurt each other.
Admitting to be tired would end the conversation too. "Conflicted." She admitted, knowing it was true. She felt lost in the woods. Frighten of what was out there. Yet apart of her seemed to be growing stronger. The part that was seeing things differently then her other self. Their was part of her that wanted Erik, and wanted to be by his side. Yet she knew he'd never stop. So their was another part of her that she tired to to feel. The one that told her this might be the end. "And you, Erik?"

Conflicted. Her word choice was a curious one, yet one that did not come as an immense surprise. In fact, it seemed like a well suited word as he was trying to see this from her perspective. He knew the conflicted feelings was not about whether to keep the baby or not, but rather, it was more geared toward them. Their future together. What would become of it. She returned the question, and he wanted to tell her that how he felt was irrelevant. But he also knew that if they were to let this conversation progress, then he needed to grant her the same courtesy she had given him: honesty and acknowledgment.
He paused before answering, trying to think of how to describe what he was feeling. "Overwhelmed." About the pregnancy. About them. About Shaw. About, well, everything. He was walking around, anger fueling his actions of hunting Shaw. And yet, his time with Magda had caused that anger to slowly subside, enough to be with her. Now they had a child on the way. A child who could not be brought into this kind of life. "This is not a life for a child to be brought into," he began to tell her, vocalizing his thoughts, knowing he needed to start the conversation of what would be done about the baby. Their baby.

He was feeling overwhelmed. Understandable, for this wasn't something that would sort out over night. She was emotional too, and if he wasn't feeling something akin to overwhelmed then she would worry about him. It would be inhuman not to feel that much emotion at finding out about the baby.
It wasn't the words she reacted too. It was his later. This wasn't a life to bring a baby into. He knew she planned to keep their child, so his words left her even more confused--and hurt. If she agreed, then it meant that either this was end--or he was giving up on his hunting. As the later wasn't an option for him, she wondered about the first.
Yet apart of her wondered too, if he could ever let it go. If not for her then for the child. A child who would need him to help them understand what was happening to them. A child who needed a father. Could he ever just live? Just be Erik rather then this hunter? "And what is the other options?" She asked him, not going to agree or disagree.

She asked what the other option was. He only had one in mind. It was not something that would be easy, despite his maintaining of a calm and composed nature. But he knew he had been naive, living this life with her. Not letting himself face the harsh reality of what his world entailed. He had believed he could just be with her, allow himself the selfish pleasure of her company. Let himself feel, cared for and care for someone in return. This pregnancy was a harsh lesson in reality, telling him that it was impossible to just allow happiness until his mission was complete. And even after that, who knew. "This is not a life I can walk out from," he told her. Though, he was aware that she knew that. For she had never asked him to stop what he was doing.
Not for her sake. And not yet had she asked it for their child's sake. "But it is a life that you can." One that she must. Her and the child. This was not his way of sounding self sacrificial in any way; it was his fault that this was happening. His, naivety that had caused them to reach this point. This level. "And one that you must." He was not giving her a choice in this. For she too knew that it was necessary. "We will find a house for you and the baby." Their baby. Yet he supposed it had not yet fully registered in his mind for he was not yet referring to it as 'theirs' or 'ours'. "You need to be somewhere stable." Not on the move as much as he was.

He was going to buy her a home? Tell her to stay there? "A home near the water, maybe." She said, emotions not touching her voice yet. "Somewhere far away. . . . and maybe once a year you could stop buy if you're in the area, and pay us a visit." Emotion slowly crept into her voice with each word. Hurt. Anger. "Over the years as you get more desperate to find him maybe the time between such visits will grow, until I am left wondering if you are dead or just looking too hard."
"And then when you son turns out like you, what shall I tell him? I knew a man once how could bend metal like you. Do I tell him that he is hunting the man who killed his family, and in the effort gave up on his own? Do I tell him that his father might stop by later in life, so we cannot leave this still house. And what of his powers? If he is like you? How do I comfort a confused child with something I do not understand?"
"If this is you plan, Erik, then you might as well just leave me here. I rather make my own way then live in your gadjo world and unmovable house and wonder when you might return." A single tear rolled over her cheek and Magda reached up to angerly brush it away. With luck no other ones fell. If this was he expected of her? To let him give her money and then just raise his child without him? "I said I expected nothing from you, yet you expect things from me that I cannot give you." A life of stillness. To live in a house, and just wait for him. "So if you wish your life to be stable, then I can leave, but do not tell me you will make me like your gadjo women and expect me to just give up on the only family I have left."

When she started to speak, of a house near the water . . . well, if Erik had not known her as well, he would have thought she was accepting his offer. But he knew her better than that. So it did not come as a great surprise that she opposed his suggestion so vehemently. She spoke of how his visits may become less frequent, of what would happen if their son was a mutant and his powers began to manifest. Erik hardly understood his own powers. He only knew that they were prompted by anger; and he was always angry. She then finished by saying that he would rather he leave her here, not wanting to live in his world, a world he was trying to create for her. He remained quiet, composed. His mind thought over her words. She had a right to say them, for he knew the plan he offered was far from ideal. She was entitled to feel this, anger with his suggestions. But that did not mean that they had many other options. That did not mean he was going to back down from his suggested plan.
"Then tell me, what are the alternatives?" He questioned, making sure his tone remained calm, not overly emotional. "You wish to raise a child in a transient life?" With or without him. She did not want to settle in a home. Nor did she want to continue on this path with him. "What would you have me do?" He asked her. While his previous question may have been rhetorical, this one was not. "You have never asked me to abandon my mission, yet I fear you are coming dangerously close to doing so now. And I am afraid you will not like my answer." He was not entirely certain if she would outright ask him, but that in his mind, was the only alternative. He would not find Shaw in the next few months. He would be fortunate to find him in the next few years. He paused for a moment, letting his emotions remain in check. "So enlighten me, help me to understand, Magda. How exactly do you envision your life with the child?" Whether it was with or without Erik, he wanted to know how she foresaw her future, their future. Not in a 'gadjo home' as she had put it. But not in a life that they were currently living either.

"Then tell me, what are the alternatives?" They could be together, no matter what came their way. They could be a family if he let them. "You wish to raise a child in a transient life?" "I was." Raised that way. A wagon for a home, and moving around from one town to the next while her father sold 'cures' to the fools, and her mother read palms or cards. It had it's flaws, yes, but she knew nothing else. She didn't want to know anything else. "What would you have me do?" To give them a chance! To just open his heart to them! If only he would! If only love was stronger then hate!
"You have never asked me to abandon my mission, yet I fear you are coming dangerously close to doing so now. And I am afraid you will not like my answer." Her lips parted as her eyes flushed with tears, and her shoulders shook in the silent sob she almost could not hold back. Her face looked broken, and Magda could not even try to hold it back to not hurt him. The words were the worse thing he could have said to her in this moment, but ones she had known where coming. Had known it since the first day they had began this. From when he asked her to travel with him. From when they spent the nights together. Had known it--but knowing and hearing it were two vastly different things. It broke her. In ways she had not known he could hurt her.
"So enlighten me, help me to understand, Magda. How exactly do you envision your life with the child?" She had looked away from him while trying to compose herself, but there was no coming back from his words. Lifting her gaze to him, she was unable to hide anything she felt in that moment. In the end she lowered them again, feeling defeated, and to fragile to do anything but hide her face into her raised knees.
"I have known since the beginning that you would choose him over me." Magda admitted, "I have never asked it of you because I already knew the answer." Looking back up at him she tried to hold his gaze but for the first time it was hard. "I dose not make hearing it any easier."
"You asked how I saw it? I did not. I was too afraid to look, only knew that whatever happened---I had thought we could handle it together. That was how we'd done everything else. The camps. Moving around. Living. Surviving." They weren't spoken to hurt him--or maybe they were. She wasn't sure now. She didn't want to hurt him! Yet nor she feel anything beyond her own pain right now.
"I do not intend to let my feet turn to roots, and live in one place. With or without you, Erik, I will keep moving. I would not feel safe in one place." Not having knowing how people grew to hate what they feared, or what they did not understand. She wanted to keep moving since she could not hide who she was. "So what shall I do? I do as I have always done with you Erik. If you wish me to go with you, I will go with you." For the sake of the baby who would need his father. "If you wish to go alone, then I will go my own way . . . as my people have always done."

She said that she was raised in such a life, yet it was different. How could she wander on her own with a newborn child? How would she get sufficient money for necessities? She could not do this on her own. And he knew that he could not be the one to do it with her either. He had known this point was coming. The inevitable end to the most wonderful thing in his life. When he had first been reunited with her, he had recalled how optimistic and full of life she had been. How incredibly positive. And he had been the exact opposite. His heart and soul had been darkened with hate and vengeance. Yet, until now, he had allowed himself to pretend that they could work.
That there was more keeping them together than apart . . . yet, now that fantasy seemed to have reached its end. He had not failed to see her reaction to his words. He had known that saying them would hurt. But they were true. He would never lie to her, though part of him wished he could offer her kinder and more reassuring words. That he had the ability to comfort her rather than make her cry. But he was not that man. He was not the man he could have been with her had things been different. He couldn't help but wonder, if things had been different, if they had been together, happy . . . would she have settled somewhere with him then? Or would this 'gadjo lifestyle' never be one for her. He had not realized the cultural differences between them until now. But he also knew that their differences were far beyond cultural. Their difference lay in priorities, lifestyles . . . race. He remained silent for some time, not wanting to deliberately say things to hurt her unless what he had to say was necessary.
"Then I will help you find your people," he told her. Among searching for Shaw, he would help search for her fellow gypsies. "For you can not raise this child alone." And he was in no position to help her. Because he had to commit to that. He had to prioritize her and the child. And he couldn't. Not until Shaw was dead. Though he couldn't even promise anything after that either. He knew from the beginning that she had deserved better, for their relationship could not last. No matter how long he pretended it could; no matter how much he had wanted it to. "You should be with those who can help you." Which he could not do as much as he should. He paused for another moment, knowing he wanted to make something clear, whether she believed him or not. "It was never my intention to hurt you, Magda." With this. With whatever false life his actions had promised them. "And I am sorry for doing so." He was not above apologizing for his mistakes. Although, despite how much he had hurt, he could not bring himself to regret this time he spent with her, even with a child on the way.

Magda got up and walked to the washing room, only stopping to grab some clothing along the way. What else could she did? Erik had just broken her heart in eight words. He was sending her away. They were done. Shutting the door, Magda slid to the floor and hugged her knees to her chest, and cried. She'd dress later. Climb into the bed later. Decide what to do, but it too would all be later. Right now she was too sad. Too heart broken. She could only cry.
Erik was sending her away, and nothing would be the same anymore. She had to be strong for her child, but that too would come tomorrow.
It was some time later when Magda left the washing room, and moving to the bed. There she slept on the side of it, near the edge. Her dreams were not pleasant ones, but ones where her best friend left her behind, and took enjoy in going on with her out. Erik had his life set in stone, and no where in that stone was her.

She wordlessly went to the bathroom and remained there for some time. While Erik remained on the chair. Eventually, he found his way to the bed, laying down and closing his eyes. He did not feel like he slept the entire night. He even heard her when she joined him, but he did not say or do anything. He just remained there, eyes closed, thinking over everything. He was unsure if they would remain this way until he found her people, or if she would feel the need to depart sooner. At first light Erik quietly got ready for the day and left. He was gone all day, and returned when Magda was resting. This is what the next couple of days consisted of. Hardly any conversation or any interaction at all really. It was difficult. For he of course enjoyed her company, yet also knew that this was how it had to be. He had to complete his mission, and he had to find her people so that she would not be alone in raising the child.
It was one particular night that broke the routine of each day. Erik had not been prepared for it. He had been caught off guard and that was why he hadn't even been able to attempt to stop it. Even when the bullet shot right into the back of his shoulder. The anger had been enough to fuel his anger, but it was uncontrolled and resulted in the men's guns firing around aimlessly until they were dead. He knew he could not go to a hospital for far too many questions would be asked. He would have to deal with this on his own, starting with taking out the bullet. He had been following a lead but he'd not anticipated it to be somewhat of a trap. He had been outnumbered and unprepared and the ambush had resulted in him getting shot. Managing to somehow make it back to the hotel, he stumbled into the lift. The loss of blood was starting to make him feel faint but he still kept himself moving until he got to the hotel room. It was the middle of the night, so when he entered, he ensured to be as quiet as possible so not to wake Magda. He stumbled into the bathroom, closing the door, and opening the tap to let the water run. He then proceeded to take off his jacket, but only succeeded in removing the arm that was not his injured shoulder.
The pain was too much. He cringed, looking around for a towel which he then used to hold against the wound to add some pressure and hopefully stop at least some of the bleeding. Grabbing another towel he put it between his teeth and looked into the mirror. Taking a few deep breaths, he closed his eyes and felt a whole new surge of pain as he used his abilities to pull the bullet from his shoulder, the movement of it through his flesh and skin causing a severity of pain that made him relieved he had the towel between his teeth. He felt tears of sweat on his forehead as he finally pulled it free and let it fall into the sink, leaving the towel in his mouth so that it would continue to stifle any sound of pain. He had not exactly thought through the next step, for now he realized that he had no needle and thread, nor could he stitch it himself, and he was losing even more blood now.

Magda wasn't in bed when he returned. She was in her chair, before the window, and looking out it. In her hand were some cherries, which had become her comfort food. Each day between the night he broke her heart, and now she had gone out and begun to make plans. Tried to think about what to do. The baby would need Erik in it's life one day but she didn't think she was strong enough to bare it until then. If she left him before then, then she'd never seen him again.
Hearing Erik come in, she paused, but as he had for the last few days, he did not speak to her, nor her to him. Magda closed her bag, and stood up, wanting to be in bed before he came out so she could prolong another day the conversation they needed to have. Pausing by the lamp she looked at the floor. Was that blood?
Her heart went faster, as she moved toward the door. Placing her hand softly on it, Magda didn't open it yet. Faintly she hear something, but wasn't sure what. Finally she pushed open the door, and what she saw made her lips open in a silent scream! At first she stepped back, but then Magda moved forward quickly, "Erik!" Her hands grabbed one of the towels and pressed it to his shoulder. "Wha--what happened?"

He heard her come in and quickly moved to press the towel to his shoulder, questioning what had happened. He pulled the towel from his mouth and toss it to the side, breathing heavily from the strain of his injury. He wanted to tell her to go to bed, for he did not wish her to see him like this. Especially as she was pregnant and he was fairly certain this was the last thing she should be witnessing. But he also knew that he was going to bleed out if he didn't do something. His pale complexion already a sign of his blood loss.
"I need, something to stop the bleeding," he managed to get out in a breathless voice, a harsh whispered tone. His hands gripped the sides of the sink to keep him braced up. Did they have anything? He refused to go to a hospital so they would have to make due with what they had or what they could quickly acquire. "I got the bullet out," he added so that she would know that part was done. And that he just needed something to stitch the wound closed.

Magda pressed the towel into his shoulder, and tried to think. Stop the bleeding. Stop the bleeding. "I have my sewing!" She offered, trying to think of what must be done. She had needle and thread used to patch up her clothing, but to use on a person? Could she even do it? Did she had a choice other then that and letting Erik die? It never occurred her to to take him to the building of doctors. "Come, Erik," She tired to help him but this would be something he had to do too. "To the bed, and lay down so I can see it!"
Magda tired to help him but he was too heavy, so the walk was mostly him. Once he was down, Magda put the towel over his wound and the reached for the metal tray that had been used from room service many days ago, and never returned. There she put it over the towel. "Make it press down!" So it could stop the bleeding!
Magda then ran to her bag and pulled out some thread--never asking him the color--for she just grabbed the first one her shaking fingers could grasp. Then she took her drink, and poured it over the needle to clean it, and then the thread. Taking what was left to him, she offered it to him, and then got the towel for him to bit on as well. "This is going to hurt." Though not as much as pulling a bullet out himself.

Sewing. Yes. That was good. That should suffice. She helped him move over to the bed, using his strength to walk as best he could, though he felt weak. The blood having severely drained him. Still. Thanks to her support, he managed to make it to the bed where he proceeded to position himself in a manner that would provide her access to his injury. She then told him to make something press down. Erik did not want to admit that he was too weak to do it, for his abilities were dependent on his physical condition. He took a deep, slightly strained breath, and when she walked away, used what little energy he had in him to force the tray to remain on his back.
Thank goodness she could not see his face, for he knew there was a strained expression on it. Relief hit him when she returned and he almost immediately allowed the tray to drop to the ground. She offered her drink, and Erik glanced at it, before his eyes searched around the room, finding a drink that would be far more helpful. He reached over for his bottle of scotch, taking a large gulp of it, the amount causing a burn in his throat but it felt rather good compared to his shoulder right now. "Just do it," he said in a calm, non ordering voice but one that expressed she need not worry about the pain it may cause. He was not fearful of pain. But still, he closed his eyes and braced himself, taking another gulp of his somewhat comforting beverage.

How had he gotten shot? She knew he could stop metal from moving toward him, just as he could make it fly away from him, so she wondered how he had gotten shot! Was it because he wasn't alert? Had he not been sleeping!? When this was over she was putting her foot down! No more! He would be taking care of himself! She couldn't lose him---or at least not yet.
Magda's hands shook at first, but she managed to steady them just enough to begin sewing his shoulder. She feared she was hurting him, which couldn't be more then getting shot but Magda never wanted to cause him pain. Not like this. "I'm sorry." She whispered about half way through, then in effort to get him to calm and perhaps even let himself pass out, she began to sing. Both to comfort herself, himself, and to distract him from the pain. The words weren't in English, but the language of her people; the tone however was soft and comforting.
