He continued to give a slight smile, the closest that he had ever come to ever smiling. It seemed to be a rather natural reaction whenever he was in her presence. He briefly closed his eyes when she kissed the corner of his lips before rising to her feet, but not before she made a suggestive tease. It made him suddenly reconsider not going right away, and the fact that he was thinking that . . . further proved how distracted he was becoming. The most curious thing about it being, that he didn't even mind it. Even though he knew he should. He tipped his hat a little at her, watching her walk away, locking eyes for a few more moments until she turned away.
It then prompted him to also rise to his feet and set out to where he was planning on waiting for one of the men he was tracking. He had on intention of leaving the man alive. But he would need to find the most effective way to extract information from his first. Though all this was running through Erik's mind, he could not help but think of Magda. And even dared to admit, that he was looking forward to returning to their room so that he could spend what was left of the night with her.

The bath water was cold. It had not been hours ago when she drew the water. It had been too warm, and now it was too cold. Magda blinked while looking at it, her whole world upside down so much that she could not even think clearly enough to drain the water and try again. Only that it was too cold.
She had left Erik at the bench, and gone on to find her people. To enjoy some time with strangers who were like her--even if they were not the ones she had been raised with. From there she approched an elder woman of the group, explained what was wrong and asked if they had any spare herbs to trade. The woman laughed and gave her gingeroot, and then a berry juice that was 'good for the baby'.
The baby.
She was with child.
Erik's child.
A child that would be like his father maybe.
A mutant.
While she never thought less of Erik for being a mutant, she did not want that for her child. She feared for him every day; for Erik. For him being out in the world that could take him and hurt him like back in the camps. She had seen what they did to him and the fear that she'd always have that fear for her child was overwhelming.
Her child; with Erik; the man she loved.
Hearing the door open, she turned to look toward it, trying to force her mind to clear enough to pretend that everything was normal.

Erik had done what he needed to do, and found another lead from it. As he had planned, none of the men he had sought survived. He had gotten information from them, and then they paid for the crimes they had committed all those years ago. It had put him in a rather good mood. He had even stopped to pick up a single long stem red rose for Magda. While he did not tell her the gory details that these nights often consisted of, he did tell her where they would be going next. For now, they would stay here, for the next lead was within this very town. Holding the rose, he glanced at his watch, knowing it was late and that she would probably be asleep.
As he made his way to their room, he waved his hand over the lock, opening the door. The first thing he noticed was that the bathroom light was on. He took off his coat and hat, hanging it on the rack and entering the bathroom, seeing her just standing there. His eyes went to the filled bathtub to her. Approaching her from behind, he wrapped one arm around her, revealing the rose in front of her eyes. "Waiting for me, I see," he said teasingly, referring to why she had filled the tub yet had not gotten inside of it.

He came in, and she looked at the water, trying to think of how to hide this. This being the water not the child. She wanted to think before telling him, not tell him while she was so shell shocked. His arm came around her, and something red flashed before her face. Blinking she looked at it. He was being sweet. Oh no, he was being attentive.
One hand moved tot he rose while the other moved to reach slightly behind her and touch his face. "Yes." She had been waiting for her. Her voice didn't hold the joyful warmth however, "I should fix the water." Drain it! That was what she needed to do! Should have done hours ago. "It grew cold while I was wait."
Even though he could pull the plug with her powers she moved forward, leaving him with the rose, and reached into the cold water to pull it. The cold helping clear her mind! Shocking it back into working. Turning to stand, she walked toward him. She was going to give this man a child. Once that the world might grow to fear and hate. Reaching for the flower again, she didn't quite meet his eyes, "This is beautiful." Apart of her thought, maybe things would be alright. Maybe--but the other part wondered how he'd feel. If he'd enjoy this or be displeased. What were the odds the child would have his powers? How did mutantcy even work?

Erik wasn't sure she had understood his flirtatious tease, which was unlike her. After all, she was often the one making teasing remarks and encourage the light mood between them. Yet something was different. He knew her well enough to know that. She went ahead and drained the tub, and had he not felt that she was troubled by something, perhaps he would have refilled it. But no. There was a difference in her mood. One that could not be ignored.
She returned to where he was standing, reaching for the rose. Any hint of teasing or pleasure slipped from his expression, and it transformed into a more serious one. "What is it?" He questioned, his tone reflecting the same seriousness in his expression. He was not going to bother beating around the bush or avoid the issue. Something had happened. Something was bothering her, and he intended to find out what it was. And whether there was anything he could do to fix it.

Looking up into his face she saw that he could tell something was wrong with her. Erik read her so well, that she knew it was pointless to try to hide her mood. "I found them today."She told him, "And sought out everything I said I would." The herbs. For the baby. The baby who made her ill in the mornings, not the rich foods she wasn't used to eating.
"The woman could see the signs that I missed." Looking up into Erik's face, she tried to decided how to tell him. What to tell him. Would he hate her for this? Or would he find any joy in a child? "I'm not sick." Would this change everything? She hesitated over the words, the unsure feeling she felt clear on her face. "Erik, I'm pregnant." She watched his face, fear for his reaction filling her. He was so dead set on his mission, and she knew that she was distraction enough, that she already had to make sure not to hold him back so he would not resent her for it--a baby would do that. "Are you mad?" She whispered, trying to read his expression.

She started by saying that she found them, that she sought everything she had needed, that she was not sick. She was leading up to something, and Erik was unsure as to what it was. Then, she revealed it. She was pregnant. The words took several moments to process and register in Erik's mind. She was pregnant. She was with child. She was, pregnant with their child. Despite all the emotions that flooded him and thoughts that raced through his mind, his face was expressionless as he just stared at her. How could this happen? Well, he wasn't an idiot. He knew how it happened. She asked if he was mad, and he remained silent. A child. Erik had never thought himself to be a father, not before his mission was complete, and perhaps not after that either. He did not see himself as a man who could settle down and have a family. So this, child of theirs . . . well, he did not know what to make of the news. Some would rejoice in such a statement, though he could not.
So was he mad? "Not at you." At himself. For letting this happen. For not having protected their activities better. For . . . letting himself indulge in such pleasures instead of focusing on what he really should be. And yet, he could not bring himself to regret the time he spent with her. But she was pregnant because of it. And he did not know how to deal with that. "Are you entirely certain?" He asked. He wanted to know if this was just a fear, or if it was confirmed. Though he was speaking, he knew he had still not fully processed this revelation. Where did they go from here? What did they do from here? How could they bring a child into the current lifestyle they lived -- or he lived? How could he abort his mission because of this child? So many questions, and Erik had no answers to them. Which was perhaps why he kept them inside his mind, needing to silently deal with such concerns himself.

He was not mad at her, which meant he was mad. Just not at her. Which was almost a good thing. "Yes. It has been many months since. . . " Since her monthly. Magda watched him, and tried to sort out what she needed to say to him in this moment and everything she needed to ask. So many questions but she knew if the first thing out of her mouth was about his mutant powers then he would never forgive her--and she might not even forgive herself. Yet the idea of a child being raised in this world, and forever living in fear wasn't one she could quite settle with.
Wrapping her arms around herself, she watched his face, trying to take in something. Trying to take the lead from him with how she should react to this--but the only thing she could tell is that it wasn't joy. "I'm going to keep it." It? "Him or her." She corrected. It wasn't in her to give a child up or get rid of it. She had lost too much family to even think it. Killing wasn't something she could live with, and any child she gave up would be left alone, and like them--him. She couldn't abandon a child to that alone. "I don't . . . . I expect . . . " Him to stay with her if he couldn't.

She said that it had been months. Which meant that it must have happened fairly early on when they were reunited. She then stated that she was going to keep it. The idea that she would not had failed to cross his mind. He knew she would. And that was why he felt even more conflicted as to what to do. "I assumed as much," he told her in a low voice, wanting her to know that he would not even have considered asking her to terminate the child. Especially since there was a very good possibility that since it was his, the child would be a mutant.
Her latter words, though incomplete, were understood. She was trying not to make him feel trapped in this. That she did not expect him to, what was it, stay? But he also had a strong feeling that she would never forgive him if he left. If he abandoned her and the child. He knew he should not care about her forgiveness, but he did. He cared about her as well, far more than he should. Which was precisely what had gotten them into this situation. His eyes looked at hers, knowing she was just as worried about all this. "You should get some rest." It was late. And he needed time to digest all this. To start thinking of a plan. Of what he could do. He knew his words may sound dismissive, but he also knew that nothing he could possibly say right now would be remotely helpful.

"I assumed as much," That was a good thing. He wasn't disagreeing with her, and seemed to have just assumed that she would want to keep and raise their child. "You should get some rest." That wasn't a good thing. She knew enough about Erik to know when he was asking for time alone. It didn't make it easier to hear. It made it harder, because after months of trying to give him the freedom to do what he needed to do, she needed him now.
But she would not demand it from him. "I don't think I will be sleeping much tonight." Magda admitted, before walking past him to exit the washing room. Walking toward the windows, Magda curled up in the chair and looked out of the window. The lights in the main room were off, so it was easy to see the glow of the city from up here. She was just as confused as he was, but where as he wanted space, she wanted to curl up in his arms; even if they didn't speak about this now.

The thought was a shared one. For he doubted he would be getting any sleep tonight either. He remained in the washroom for several moments, trying to think of what to do. Of how to proceed. He noticed her not go to the bed, but instead, sit curled in the chair to gaze out the window. He had no reassuring words to offer her. For he could not make false promises. He had never lied to her and did not intend to start now by telling her everything would be alright. By saying that they would find a way to make this work. How could they journey with a child?
After some time, he walked out of the washroom, closing the lights so that the hotel room was dark, the only light entering form the window. He walked toward her, silently standing behind her. Most nights they would let their intimacy guide them to the bed and eventually enter a sleep through that. But tonight would be different. He remained quiet, unsure of what to say or how to say it. He even slightly raised his hand to touch her cheek in a reassuring manner, but stopped when he almost reached her shoulder, and instead, lowered his hand back to his side. "Lie in the bed, Magda," he told her. Because even if she would not sleep, she should at least be resting comfortably.

He walked up behind her and almost touched her, but for the first time it seemed he could not. Magda closed her eyes and took a deep breath. It wasn't until he spoke that she opened them again, looking out into the city but not seeing anything before her. "I don't wish to be sent to be like a child." It wasn't harshly spoken, but she realized the words she spoke were almost ironic. Like a child. Their child.
Standing she turned to face him, her face showing how she felt a mixture of the fear, confusion, and hurt on her face. "I'm frightened, Erik." Her voice cracked as she began to get emotional, and it was hard to admit it, but maybe this would give him something to think on. "Everything is changing and in ways I can't control or aid. I'm with child. I don't know what that means right now, but I know that it means I have limited time to figure it out. On top of trying to decide how to handle a child, I have to keep in mind that my child might be like you and while I would love them no matter what--" she pointed out the window at the city lights, "--that is a scary world filed with hate right now, and I am SO aware of how the world already hates me for what I am, and fears you for what you can do--which means any child we have has both sides working against him, and that if I mess up even a fraction trying to protect him, that I might be watching this child go through that you did--and that is not even my biggest fear right now!"
"Because that is you." He was her biggest fear right now, "Because I have gotten alright at being able to tell what you need and what you're thinking but right now I can't! All I know is that I just wanted you to hold me and you can't even touch me!" She took in a shaken breath and blinked at him before shaking her head slowly side to side. Magda's voice was calmer when she spoke next, but still just as unsure, "So no, Erik, I do not wish to go to bed right now. I wish to . . . . " To what? ". . . . to just sit here and look at the lights." Turning from him she moved to curl back up in the chair, her feet drawn up close her while her head rested on her knees.

She stood and faced him, before starting to tell him all she felt -- or most likely a semblance of how she felt -- about the child. She was afraid; unsure of what the future held for her child, and for them. And he could understand. In fact, he could relate for he felt the same way. Completely uncertain as how to deal with this. She feared the child would be a mutant, and while she did not say that she didn't want it to be one, he could tell in her voice and with the way she phrased her words. The fact that the child was a mutant, was what made Erik feel more attached to it. Yet at the same time, still have strong hesitations about fatherhood. Especially because of the dark path he was currently on. And she knew it too. Out of all the fears she had listed, one included him. Because she could not tell what he was thinking or feeling. He tended to guard his emotion and expressions less around her. She wanted him to hold her, and he had to admit that that was something he wanted as well. But he couldn't. It was an act of comfort he was incapable of expressing right now, because he had nothing to offer her that could help ease this situation. No plan. No assurance. Nothing. He watched her, remaining silent despite all she had told him, and all thoughts it had caused to rush through his mind.
He stood near her as she sat in the chair, gazing out the window. After a few moments, he decided he needed space. Space and time to just think this over and let it fully process in his mind and heart. So with that determination, he turned and walked out of the room, locking it behind him. He spent the entire night, wandering the streets, ending up at a bar for a few drinks as well. He did not return to the hotel until the morning. Quietly opening without the key, he braced himself for the conversation he knew they would inevitably have to have. As he stepped inside, the first thing his eyes rested on was her. She was laying on her side, sleeping on the bed. Good. At least she had gotten some rest after all. He also noticed his coat on her and that made him pause, knowing why she did it. And loathing himself even more for all this. For what he had dragged her into by bringing her into his darkened world. He went over to the bed, picking up a spare blanket and carefully draping it over her for additional warmth since she was not under the cover. Looking at her for a few more prolonged moments, he then hung his hat on the coat rack and went to the washroom, closing, but not locking the door, and put the tap on to start freshening up, splashing some water on his face.

He left.
Magda turned and stared at the door when he had gone, and she felt the tears. At first they fell over her cheek, and then they poured over her cheeks. She cried until they turned to sobs, and sobed until she was too tired to anything more then wrap herself in his coat and lay on the bed. His coat smelled of him, and it was all the comfort she could get at the moment.
Hours later, when she blinked open her eyes, Magda could see it was morning. And hear him in the washing room. Hear the water. Looking at the hat rack she could tell he returned. Her belly growled, but turned too. She knew why. The baby.
His baby.
Taking a few deep breaths she managed to keep it down, but knew if she moved too quickly then it would be over. Magda was tempted to play the same card as he had and just leave, but knowing she was sick--and knowing how it felt--made her stay. Pushing to sit up, she began to move slowly around the room. Her belly rolled and protested. Finding the rose from last night, she reached for it, picking it up by wrapping her hand around the flower rather then the steam.
Finally she slowly lowered back in her chair, though this time facing into the room since the sunlight hurt her tender eyes. When Erik walked out of the washing room she didn't look up, rather just sat there with her feet tucked under her, his jacket pushed up on her arms slightly so her hands could stroke the rose to feel it's softness. "You should eat before you leave," She said softly, and without judgment; just as she did the last morning and all the other mornings; as she worried about him when he dind't and he knew this. Magda wasn't sure where the calm came from, because she wanted to yell at him. She had so much emotion in her and had never held back in expressing it.
Only now she did. Because she always gave him want he needed. She always made things easy for him. She always never made him choose. And it was never the other way around.

When he came out of the bathroom, she was sitting on the chair once more. He paused, watching her, wondering if she would try to continue the conversation from last night. Instead, she told him that he should eat something before he goes. Which was something that she told him every day. Yet it seemed different today. Because he had not expected her to be so calm. He knew that they would need to talk. And wanted to keep things as composed as possible. Keep his mind as level headed as possible. He did have somewhat of an idea of what could be done about this. But he was no where near formalizing it into an official plan.
"Come then. Let us go get something to eat." His way of saying that they would have breakfast together and either eat it out, or bring it back here so that they could talk. He knew he would have to put his plans on hold today. Right now, they needed to figure something out. Or at least . . . he didn't know. Communicate? Was that even the right word to use considering he often lacked in this area. He also wanted to make sure she ate, uncertain of what she lacked the appetite for. She was pregnant. She needed to be healthy. For even if this was not the most ideal circumstance, he was not going to neglect her well being.

Erik offered to go with her to get some food, but between knowing he would be off soon to begin his day, and not wishing to go out, Magda decided she rather say in and try to think with a clear mind. Yesterday her mind had not been clear, it had been a cloud. She had been unsure, and lost, and he'd left. Magda feared it was because Erik despised weakness, and yesterday she had been weak.
Her tone was still calm, and unjudgmental. It held none of it's normal warmth, but nor was there anything else in it. "I know you will have a busy day planned. I think I will stay here." Where she could be weak without him watching. "I will get some things from the market, and bring it here later. Perhaps even something for super if you complete your day before bedtime."

She refused to go to breakfast with him and that in itself was out of character for her. Though he knew the reason why. And he didn't blame her for it. He remained silent, trying to find the right words to say in this moment. He knew leaving to get her breakfast would not help the situation, for perhaps it was his absence that had upset her in the first place. For even though she spoke in a calm manner, he knew she was upset with him. For never, had she rejected his company, especially when it came to food. "You have to eat something," he told her, knowing the reason as to why was not just for her well being now, but . . . for the life growing inside of her. A concept that he was still having difficulty accepting.
"I also thought we should, speak. About things." About what was going to happen. She was already a few months in, and he wasn't sure how much longer he was going to need to be here for. The question was, would she be going with him? He knew she shouldn't. And that was where his so called idea was coming into play. Yet at the same time, not being with her was going to be difficult. While rationality said he should not allow her to come with him, his illogical heart wanted otherwise. And these last few months he had spent with her, was evidence that his heart was dominating his mind.

Erik almost surprised her with his words, saying that they could instead talk about things but right now she wasn't ready for it. She couldn't be strong for long, and Magda wanted to think. She wanted to breathe. She wanted . . . to walk among her people and forget for a few moments that it hurt this much. Yet she couldn't do it. Not to him, even if he would have--and had done--the same to her.
"I rather wait." Until later to eat, and to talk. "I know you have important things to do. I will be here tonight when you return, and we can speak then." If he pressed again she would relent, and let them find food, but she knew him. Erik would do as he always had done, and put his mission of killing the man who hurt him and killed his mother, before everything. She had never felt too much hurt over it, knowing how he had been treated. She even hoped he found the man, who could even now be hurting another little boy--but Magda could not think such things now.
She needed to try to think about what was best for the baby, not what was best for Erik.

She once again rejected his company, and he was not going to push it. If she did not wish to talk, then he could not force her to. She spoke of how he had important things to do and that she would be here when he returned. Just like every other day. But they couldn't go on like this. Not with a child coming. He looked at her for a few moments, as if waiting for her to change her mind, but silence followed. And with that, he turned, picked up his hat again, placed it on his head and left the room, locking the door behind him. He knew he could not return too late for she needed her rest, and if they let another night pass where they did not speak, he had a feeling it would just continue on and on and everything would build to the point of eventual explosion.
In the meantime however he focused on the leads he had, on following a trail. It had not proved to be too productive today, and he knew that it was only a matter of time before they would leave here and move on to the next city. He. Or they. He was unsure where she stood now in terms of his transient lifestyle. A lifestyle that was not suited for a child. Soon enough, it was night time and he knew he had to return before it grew to early morning. He was trying to determine what he would say to her, wondering if she would be as withdrawn as she was earlier in the day, or if she was going to be outspoken as she was last night. There was only one way to find out. And with that thought, his waved his hand over the lock to open it, and stepped inside their room.

When he left again, she waited there to a long while, just looking out the window but not seeing any of the beautiful city. Only her thoughts. Then she got up and got dressed, and left. Magda wasn't sure where she was going, but leaving wasn't a hard choice to make. It was easy.
First she visited the market, and walked around. Even conning a few gadjos for some money since she had left without anything. It made her feel useful, stronger. She could find a way. With luck it would be with Erik, but if not then she would give this child a better life then either of then had. One that was protected from evil. Safe. If she had to go to the high mountains to do it, then she would.
Returning to the room was harder, but with luck the staff knew she was in the room and it wasn't too hard to get them to let her back in. She had gotten cherries from the market, and some fresh cream. As she didn't know when Erik would return, she drew her a bath, and pulled the table beside the bed to be beside the bath tub, where she put her cherries and the bowl of cream. Relaxing into it, she propped her feet u[ on the rim, and soaked while trying not to think right now. She wanted to be calm so she could sleep better tonight.
