Black Swan setting: genosha
timeline: post assassin days
notes: LSquared first meeting!
| Luca was just staring into the embers of the fire. He was used to being on his own, and found it comfortable enough. In fact, it was . . . odd, seeing same faces everyday. Working with the same people. Those who said hi to him in passing and called him by his name. His true name. He'd only been here but a short time and already people knew him. Of course he knew it was due to the small community but the entire circumstance was just, unfamiliar. After spending so many years being a shadow to the world, he was now leaving footprints behind him. It was a nice life that would take some getting used to.
Which was why he took advantage of these more, quiet moments. He was helping the others in building homes as the population seemed to grow. Here, there did not seem to be a concept of money, but rather, a barter system where people worked based on their trade and skills. His had once been shooting people but that would not come in handy. And so, he picked manual labour and it seemed to be going well enough.
He hoped that no one noticed though. That he would take a little longer to process things, that his motor skills were a bit more delayed. He never would have considered himself weak but with what happened . . . he supposed he fell into that category now. "No. You're fine. No one notices. You're fine." He hadn't even realized he was talking to himself -- or at the fire -- just as he hadn't realized that someone was standing there.

Lana was bouncing around the island for a while, trying to check out everything that was happening here. She liked the island so far, but didn't want it to be all for show. Not that Magneto had been known for lying, but she needed to be sure. Lana had her hands in all sorts of pots right now. She needed a safe place to send mutants that wasn't building up warriors. So far, she was presently surprised about everything here! It seemed as if Magneto really was just tying to build a safe little world here for mutants.
Which was the other reason she was hanging out. Part of her wanted to be apart of this. For a while. Grass never grew under her feet. Lana knew that if she was around people too long their emotions changed. She could tell every time someone got annoyed with her, or angry. It was hard to not react to the fact that someone got annoyed every time you did something small. While most people could hide it--no one could hide it from her.
Walking up to the fire she was about to ask to sit when she heard him tell it was it fine. OH! Sweet! A mind reader! "Thanks!" She said with a grin, moving to bounce over and plop down near the fire. "I just came from the down under and everything is still so damn cold to me. And this place don't have a tea shop. I could go for some tea to warm up with right now." Lana looked him over. "I'm Lana." Reaching her small hand out, she greeted him.

| Perhaps startled wasn't the correct word but Luca was certainly caught off guard when the woman responded to his question that was . . . meant for no one. Another thing he hated; that he could be caught off guard when for so long, he was all too aware of his surroundings. He had made a living off of being stealth and inconspicuous. Now, he seemed to be neither. At least, temporarily. He watched her as she sat down and his mind was struggling to process everything she was saying. Down under. Cold. Tea. Warm. It took him longer than it should so he just responded with silence.
Looking at her extended hand, he tried to force his mind to move his own had forward; another belated action and by the time he felt like he could . . . too much time had passed. Too many moments so to shake her hand now, would just be awkward and random. And make it look far too obvious. So, he would have to pass it off as him being rude. Which, he could do. It wasn't as if he had worked to make a lot of friends in his former occupation. Turning to look at the fire, he just stared at the embers, trying to think of something easy to say.
"Luca," he introduced. The name still sounded so foreign on his tongue but he had said it far more often than Black Swan here on this island. "We have water," he suggested. "You can get water and boil it on the fire." It would be tea . . . just without the flavour. Besides, it was the easiest thing for Luca to respond to right now. Something basic and seemingly effortless but unfortunately, no conversation was completely effortless for the former assassin.

It wasn't easy to see in the fading light the type of things she could feel in pitch darkness. Lana could feel what others felt, and she knew something was off about him. He worried about something, and wasn't at ease around her. Using her powers she shifted his feelings just slightly so they weren't so profound. She didn't add anything to him, or make him feel anything he wasn't--she just helped him feel slightly more at ease and less tense.
"True, but where would the caffeine come from?" She teased, smiling over it at him in a friendly manner, mostly just to relax him more. She had thought that he could read her mind but after sitting here for seconds she wondered if that was right. There was something about him that didn't seem to fit the mind reader type--and she'd met a few here and there. Maybe it was the way he hadn't taken her hand, or didn't seem to react to her other thoughts.
Watching him, she thought ht as handsome, and wait to see if he'd react to that. When he didn't she smiled to herself and looked back at the fire. Not a mind reader. "I like you're name, Luca. It's not a common more." At least not in this area. Lana liked names, and found most fit people. Luca wasn't a name you heard in the states often. "Where you from?"
