There was something on Raven's mind that she didn't quite know how to tell Erik. She had secluded herself for most of the day, telling herself that she'd get things in order..but really, she hadn't. She was still procrastinating, knowing that she couldn't leave until she spoke to Magneto about it. Of course, she'd already made up her mind.. and she refused to let him charm her in to staying. Or, at least, that's what she told hereslf. It was going to be hard..but saying goodbye didn't mean forever.
She looked at the clock on her wall and noticed that she'd spent five hours held up in her room. She hadn't eaten any meals, or spoke to anyone - which was unusual for her. She decided that now wasn't the time to run, or hide from her feelings..she'd never hide again. That was another promise she'd made to herself.. and so, she stood up, and walked to Erik's office. It probably wasn't the best place to have such a talk, but there was enough privacy, with the ability to lock doors and keep voices down.
When she noticed the door had been slightly open, she peered inside, and there she saw Magneto. Suddenly, this conversation became a billion times more difficult. "Magneto," she spoke softly. "I..need to talk to you."

Erik had immersed himself in the information that the others had gathered. He was currently doing research on what would be their next mission. It wasn't until he heard a voice at the door -- a very familiar voice -- that he raised his gaze from his papers and straightened his head to look at her. "Mystique," he acknowledged, using his powers to open the door more before extending his hand to pull the chair out across from him. "Please, come in." He had not been oblivious to Mystique's uncharacteristic behavior. She had been withdrawn for most of the day, which was indeed unusual. Her return to the Brotherhood had made him quite pleased. He had missed her. Of course he had. And it was not just because of the physical intimacy . . . it was far more than that.
However, he also knew that when she was ready, she would talk to him. He could not pressure nor hound her. And now seemed to be the time she was ready to express what had been bothering her. When she stepped inside, he closed the door behind her. Something about her tone, demeanor, and behavior of the day easily told him that she did not bear good news. He looked at her intently, giving her his full attention. She was very important to him, and if something was troubling her, then he would do what he could to help alleviate her burdens. "You have my undivided attention. Now what seems to be troubling you?" He asked directly, knowing that it was something. She need not try to deny it. He was not even sure if she had eaten today. He'd barely seen her and had every intention of going to her at night to ensure she was alright. However fortunately, she had found him sooner, leaving them time to talk.

There wasn't much in the world anymore that could make Raven feel so emotional that it made her nauseous.. but this was one of those things. She moved toward him, and she stood directly in front of him. "I spoke with Charles. Not..personally, but," She lifted her hand and touched her index finger to her temple. "You know." She gave him a weak smile, lowered her hand, and continued. "We talked a lot of things out.. and eventually, I came to a decision." She looked up in to Erik's eyes, and those yellow hued irises of her's were sparkling with tears. "You've created something amazing here. Something beautiful and bigger than any of us. Charles.. he's been through a lot. He's strong, but his deep compassion makes him weaker than you. He needs me, Erik."
Her breath caught in her throat, and she closed her eyes, letting a tear fall down her cheek. It was a horribly cruel tear for showing her weakness. "He is my brother.. and as much as I love you, I--" Her breath caught once more and she lifted her gaze. He knew how she felt about him, but she'd never speak it. Not until now. "....I wish we could have it all, Erik. I wish I could fight at your side and his, both. But I can't.. and right now.. my brother needs me with him.. I'm sorry.."

She started by saying that she had communicated with Charles. And from the way she phrased it, the build up, he had a gut feeling . . . one that was confirmed when she finally said it. One that did not feel good inside of him. However, he remained composed, listening to every word she was saying. She was leaving him. Leaving him to be with Charles. To be with her brother. He knew Charles blamed and resented him for 'taking Raven away from him'. But Erik did not feel those things now. All he could feel was a strong sense of loss. There had only ever been two women in his life that he had committed himself to. One was Magda, many, many years ago. And the second, had been Mystique. To have lost Magda had been difficult. And now to lose Mystique . . . well, it was hardly easier the second time. Not even remotely. She wasn't leaving because she no longer believed in the cause, nor was she leaving due to any lacking feelings for him . . . she was leaving because Charles needed her. Where Magneto had often showed himself as not needing anyone, he would never admit that he felt that sense of need from her during this time. And he found it too difficult to express, even now. For he knew from the way she spoke, that she was not coming back.
Her next words caused all other thoughts to pause. She had said the word they never exchanged, yet one they expressed through their actions and devotion in the time they were together. Yes, they had their bumps along the way . . . but she had come back to him. Yet, to leave him now. He couldn't beg her to stay. He couldn't even be angry at her leaving. He understood. She had grown up with Charles and he would not attempt to tell her that Charles was fine without her. For if this was how she felt, thens he should act on it. Yet that sacrifice was difficult. For Mystique was not by any means an easy woman to lose. Especially for Magneto. And to hear that she loved him; that he was still a man who could be loved after everything that had happened in his past . . . well, he would be lying to himself if he said it didn't affect him. For it did. Far more than perhaps anyone would know. Far more than he could even express. Hearing the words, made their departure from each other, all the more difficult. After several moments of silence followed her lastly spoken words, Magneto rose from his seat, now standing directly in front of her. He raised his hand to her cheek, gently brushing away her tear with his thumb before letting it caress the soft skin of her cheek. "My dear, Mystique," he began to say, his voice calm and composed as always, struggling to keep back the emotions. Had he not spent his entire life suppressing his emotions, he would have most certainly broken down. "It is not easy to lose you," he said, speaking aloud the words that had previously entered his mind.
"I know I can not ask you to reconsider, as you have made up your mind." And again, the way that she had said it, told him that this was her final decision. That she would not be returning to the Brotherhood . . . to him. That this would very well be their final goodbye. And he knew that he would lose a part of him in her, though he may never admit it. She had a power over him that he could not fully describe; one that made him feel as if he still had a beating heart in his chest. That Shaw had not destroyed his entire soul. "But I want you to know that the feeling is mutual." That he too felt for her what she stated to him. "And that if I was given the opportunity, I would spend the rest of my life proving it to you." Just as he had dedicated his life to the Brotherhood, she too had become a part of him. "Do not apologize for this." She had nothing to be sorry for. In an ideal world, the three of them would share the same viewpoints that would enable them to join together as a single team. But fate had never been kind, to any of them it seemed. "I understand your reasons. As difficult as it is to let you go." He gave an ever so slight smile, not wishing to bring more tears to her eyes, but also wanting her to know how he felt. Having withheld his words for so long, he had relied on actions. And she understood that, just as she understood him. He took her hand in his and raised it to his lips, lightly kissing the back of her hand. He knew he would miss her. . But he knew that telling her not to leave, was not an option. She was a strong willed woman . . . he couldn't force her to stay.

This was, by far, one of the most difficult things that she ever had to do. She had to choose between her brother and Erik before - and not just them, but what they were each fighting for - and it was so difficult for her that it mad her sick. She remembered it clearly, as though it were yesterday. Charles, lying on the beach, a bullet in his spine..telling her to go with Erik. She didn't need his permission, but she was always grateful to him for understanding..and now she would be grateful to Erik. He stood in front of her, wiping her tears, and as she gazed in to his eyes, she could see the emotion in his own cool, blue hued irises. "It isn't easy to lose you, either." She admitted.
Things had come out, that although she meant them in her heart, she always meant to keep it silent. However, Magneto soon baffled her by admitting that he felt the same. She'd always known it, deep down..but hearing it was a game changer. Of course, it didn't change her mind to leave - because she had to. And it was what she'd decided after several hours of debate - but it certainly made it much more difficult. "I won't be leaving until tomorrow," her voice was trembling, and still only just above a whisper. "Tonight will be my last night at the Brotherhood, and I was hoping that I could just spend it here. With you. You can make the announcement tomorrow when I am already gone." Honestly? She didn't want to see the look on the faces of the people who'd she become so close to, looking down on her, and being judgemental. However, the only person's opinion she cared about, was Magneto's.
"I can't fathom the idea of leaving your side, and never getting to spend one more night in your arms.. That being said, I still understand if you're too upset, or repelled by me right now to give in to my requests. I have no right asking you for any sort of special treatment. Not anymore..."

She too vocalized the difficulty felt when losing one another, and went on to say that she was not leaving until tomorrow. He knew he should have expected it to be that soon, yet at the same time, wish it was not. Even though he knew that there was nothing he could say or do to convince her to stay. He listened to her words, saying that she hoped to spend the night with him, and he could make the announcement of her departure tomorrow. She was a valued and respected member of the Brotherhood. Apart from him, she was the only survivor of the Brotherhood when they had first formed. The rest had been Trask's victims. With her loss, he knew that the Brotherhood would not be the same. But alas, it had to continue. Despite the hard hit it would take in her absence. And it was not just the Brotherhood that would miss her dearly; he would as well. "I could never be repelled by you," he told her sincerely. Everything about her had the opposite affect on him; he had always been drawn to her beauty and strength, and was proud to see how far she had come. From a sheltered and concealed woman, to an independent, strong and proud mutant. "I would very much like it if you were to spend your last here, with me," he told her, not wanting her to have any doubt on his preferences.
"You never had to ask for special treatment. You have always been quite special." She had been a huge source of inspiration for the Brotherhood to begin with. For seeing her, and the way she was forced to conform to societal standards, as well as the struggles she endured every day . . . well, it had been great motivation for The Brotherhood to be formed. "But I want you to promise me one thing," he began to say, his hand still on her cheek, continuing that physical contact with her. "Stay who you are as Mystique." Her return to Xavier's threatened all the progress she had made in becoming Mystique; a strong willed mutant who did not reject her gifts just so she could fit in. "You have come a long way from the girl I first met all those years ago. You're strong, independent, intelligent, and determined. Do not let others take that away from you." Others like Charles who preferred her in disguise, or Hank who only believed her beautiful when she was not in her true form. Mystique was so much better than what others tried to make her be. "A wise woman once said to me: mutant and proud. Do not lose sight of that." Even if she was no longer with him, even if they could not be together, did not mean he wished to see her become less of this strong woman she was, and revert back to Charles' Raven. He wanted her to promise him this, because losing her was hard enough. He was not sure he could bear the loss of Mystique all together by seeing her return to just being Raven.
