She was upset. It was evident in her choice of words, tone of voice, and expression on her face. He hadn't expected his words to be reciprocated with kindness but nor was he going to apologize for them. He didn't answer any of what he assumed to be her rhetorical questions as she spoke of how it appeared he had changed his mind in wanting her back, and of how their night was not comparable to a one night stand -- which was true. Magneto's eyes went to the boy as she set him down to play. He looked so very much like his mother and Magneto had to refrain from asking about the boy's mutation, and whether it had manifested itself -- apart from the clear physical indications. Magneto's eyes returned to Mystique's as she told Kurt it was time to go, resulting in Kurt's refusal. Yes. Mystique was indeed angry. His own expression did not change and he kept from expressing any emotion under these circumstances.
"Did you expect me to embrace you with open arms upon this reunion?" He questioned rhetorically, a little sarcastically even. He knew that the boy may be all too aware of what was happening and what they were talking about, but Magneto was not going to tiptoe around the issue. "What right did you have to make a decision that deprived me from being a father for the first two years of his life?" A question that was not as rhetorical as the first. For he would welcome an answer from her. How many letters had she sent? And each one was void of the truth. Void of this revelation that he now had to discover in person. "Yet something now must have compelled you to return. What is it, guilt? A need for something?" He was displeased over this. Over the fact that he had been left completely unaware of the fact that he had a son running around in this world. "So I return to my previous question, why have you decided to come back now, after two years?" Two years, where she had kept the truth from him.

Mystique stayed silent as he asked his questions. For a moment even afterwards, she was silent. "You're right," She spoke softly. "I should have told you in the letters. But what then?" She turned to face him, and there were tears streaming down her cheeks. "The Brotherhood isn't exactly a place to raise a child.. and I was trying to let my mother have as much time with him as she could. Because she was sick. Now that Kurt is old enough to at least sort of understand, I thought it would be time. What do -you- want from -me-? I was just as surprised and as confused as you are right now." Her head was filled with things that she wanted to say, and venom that she wanted to spit, that everything was jumbled and she couldn't get anything she wanted out properly. "I felt it was time to come home."
Suddenly she wondered if she should have ever showed up at all. Perhaps she would have been better off staying in Germany. Giving up all together.. perhaps even changing her name, and her identity, and leaving Kurt with Charles where he could have grown without being judged by anyone. But that wasn't her. It wasn't what she wanted in her heart. "Besides.." She spoke softly once more, looking at the ground. "How do you tell someone you care about so much, that they're a father? You're a leader of a Revolution, Magneto. How did you think it was going to go? Would you have dropped everything to come be with me, Kurt, and my sick mother?"

Mystique told admitted that she should have told him, and then went on to ask what the next step would have been. Magneto honestly had no clue. Just as he did not know what to do right now. He could see the tears falling down her cheeks, knowing it took a great deal to cause such emotions from her, for she was a strong individual. Still, he did not waver in his reaction to all this. He kept that distance, feeling he needed it right now for it was either expressing all emotions or none at all. One extreme to another, with hardly any in between. "You should not have made that decision for me," he told her. Even if he had not known what to do, surely he would have figured something out. If only he had known. "I had a right to know. The moment you knew, you should have made me aware." What then. Yes. Indeed. What then. What now. For as she said, the Brotherhood was no place to raise a child. And he did not feel he could abandon the cause. Was it not what he lived for now? She returned the question, asking what he wanted from her for she was just as confused and surprised.
"I find that difficult to believe," he stated, his words holding truth to what he did indeed believe. For he was extremely confused and surprised, even though he showed no signs of it. He was not above admitting that to her. Lastly, she asked him a question that he never ever thought he would need to consider: would he have left the Brotherhood for her and their son. For some time, she had been apart of the Brotherhood. He had not thought they need be separated. He could at least gone temporarily . . . perhaps. He would have had time to make a plan, for he was a man who strategized and surely, he would have come up with something. "You present me with such a question now when you did not even give me time to consider or absorb everything," he stated, finding that the most suitable response to her question. "I am capable of making my own decisions. Not informing me showed how little trust you have in my judgment," he accused. The truth was, he just was not sure how to deal with this sudden responsibility thrust upon him. Was he responsible for this child? Did she want them to be the traditional family? Had she just come here to give him the choice? "You say you felt it time to come home, now tell me, which home would that be?" A home with the Brotherhood, a home with him, a home with Charles . . . he was unsure, hence the reason he had asked.

Mystique and Magneto. Their relationship had always been...crazy, to say the least. At first, it almost ended because Mystique had discovered Charles had feelings for him, and she didn't want to hurt him like that. Still though..they recovered from it. And then the two of them were against each other to the point where he shot her in the leg and tried to kill her. They were at each other's throats. However..they got over that, as well. Was this what could pull them apart? A child made from a moment of passion?
"I don't know what to say." She spoke softly. She was strong..she was always strong, but his words cut through her like a knife. "What's done was done. I was scared... I didn't know what to do." When he said it was difficult for him to believe that she was surprised, and confused, it made her heart ache in a way that she had never felt before. Just as it did when he asked what 'home' she spoke of. "If it was with Charles, then don't you think I would be at his school right now instead of reaching out to you? Don't forgive me. Fine..I have ways of healing.." She glanced at Kurt. "If you want me to leave, I will. Because that's what it sounds like." Her words shot out like venom.
"Forget I ever came home to you... pretend I died and mourn me if it makes you feel better, Erik. But just know that I never ever stopped..." She nearly let the words fall from her lips that she had spoken the night before she left for Germany. She shook her head, and turned so that she could walk toward Kurt who was crawling around on the ground still. Quite quickly, actually.

Mystique admitted that she did not know what to say, and how she was scared. She continued on, and Magneto was very aware that there was a possibility this conversation would not end on a good note. She was telling him that she would leave because it seemed that was what he wanted. He wasn't sure what he wanted. He knew that it shouldn't even be about what he wanted, but rather, what was best. What the most logical decision would be; the most rational. Her last words trailed off, speaking of how she had never stopped . . . and he knew the end of that sentence even though she left it unfinished, saying the words before she turned to leave. "And you think I have?" He answered, his tone remaining the same, but the sentiment behind the words were undeniable. He did feel the same way. Of course he did. He was certain that he always would. Which made this all the more difficult. Had they been together only for one night of passion and a child was produced from it . . . well, that scenario would have changed everything. With Mystique, he had a relationship. A dysfunctional one to say the least, but a relationship none the less.
He wasn't sure if his words were enough to make her stop from walking away, but he continued on anyway. "What was it that you were scared of?" He asked. Was she scared of his rejection of a child? Was she scared of being a mother? Was she scared of how he would react? Was she scared to return to an organization led by one of the world's most wanted man? "I will not force you to say, for if you wish to leave, then that is your decision." He said the words, and though he would not admit it, knew it would be difficult to let that happen; to just watch her walk away. But he would not force her to be with the Brotherhood, or with him. "You came to me tonight surely with something in mind. To reveal a child. What now do you want to come of this?" For she said herself, the Brotherhood was not the place to raise a child. When he was much, much younger, he had always thought he would live a very traditional life in the future. He would get married, have a home, have children, and be happy. Yet events and circumstances had drastically changed every single perception he had, and altered his mindset, becoming a man who would not get married, could not remain in one location for too long and . . . had not consciously brought children into this world. But alas, here they were. He was obviously partly responsible for Kurt's birth, and he needed to know whether she had an idea in mind of what she wanted to happen after this night of revelation.

Mystique didn't want to leave. She was angry, and confused, and.. she wasn't sure what she had been expecting. However, when he asked those words 'and you think I have?' she stopped in her tracks, and she turned around to look at him. "No..." she spoke quietly once more. "No I don't think you've stopped. Those kind of emotions don't just vanish." When he asked what she was scared of, the smallest of smiles appeared on her lips. "Everything," she admitted. "He's beautiful.. isn't he? But every time I took him out of the house... the looks he would get. I just wanted to claw the eyes out of the parents of those children who wouldn't play with him. Children don't automatically have it in their heads to reject others."
She cleared her throat, and continued. "And I was afraid of you leaving the Brotherhood... and yet I was afraid of you not leaving. I suppose this is leading to me telling you what I'm hoping would come of this visit. I want to be with you, Magneto." It was all out...she might as well just say it all. "I still want to stand by your side for the cause for us, and for children just like Kurt. But also.. I want to be by your side as.. yours.. Maybe not now... maybe it's too soon.. but I want to be a family. With you.." She felt that lump in her throat once more, and there was an ache in the pit of her stomach. If he was going to reject her, now would be the time to do it. "I don't want to leave.. I never wanted to stay gone for this long.."

Magneto listened to her as she acknowledged his own feelings when it came to her, as it was mutual. Once again, he need not say it in order for her to understand it. And that was, as it always had been, a relief to him, for it was not necessary for him to vocalize his emotions to her. She knew him well. Her answer to his question was everything, and she went on to speak of the looks Kurt would get when in public. He imagined Mystique received the same when she had been younger, before she was able to blend into what this oppressive society deemed as normal. Hearing that Kurt was enduring the same ridicule, caused a strong protectiveness to suddenly course through him. He was unsure as to whether that was some deep seated paternal instinct, or whether it was the same as he felt for any other mutant who was facing discrimination based on their appearance and abilities. Either way, that deep feeling of anger that Magneto kept contained within him intensified, though he remained calm and composed. She then went on to say how she had been afraid of him leaving the Brotherhood, and then not leaving . . . and then she stated that she wanted to be with him.
He of course wanted the same. For as they both recognized, his feelings for her had not vanished, just as hers for him did not. Yet a son. Was fatherhood something he was expected to suddenly accept? He knew nothing of what it was to be a father. How could he start being one now? Besides, what would others say if it was to come out that Magneto had a son. Would it put them in danger? Would it be a blatant target and weakness to be used against him? She wanted to be a family. She wanted to stand by his side as she once had so many years ago. Yet the child seemed to change everything, excluding how he felt about her. "I would like the same; for you to be by my side. With me." Not just as a Brotherhood mutant, but on a more intimate level. "But I am unsure what it is to be a father," he continued, keeping his words composed and strong, unrevealing of any doubt or hesitation. "And do not know if I can start to be one now." He could be in Kurt's life of course . . . but as his father? There was much to consider; a great deal to take into account. He made no promises either way for he would not offer false words to her. He had never lied to her nor had he ever betrayed his words to her . . . he did not intend to start now. Erik's eyes went to the boy, really looking at him, her words of other's perception of him playing over in his mind.
"He is a beautiful child," Magneto stated, his voice filled with sincerity. He could not understand how anyone could see Kurt as anything less than beautiful, but then again at the same time, he had never understood how anyone could see Mystique as anything less than beautiful. It truly showed how skewed society's perception of beauty was. Pulling his gaze from Kurt, his eyes rested on Mystique once more. "I imagine we have a great deal to discuss," he told her. In regards to what the situation would be like, what they would tell people, how they would raise him in such an environment . . . many different things. "Would you prefer to come with me now, or would you like me to escort you back to where you are staying should you have other accommodations in place for the night?" He would not assume she would immediately wish to return to the Brotherhood headquarters, but either way he hoped to speak with her more tonight. For despite this massive revelation, he was happy to see that she was well; that his initial fears of her being harmed had not been true.

It was like a bright, warm light started to shine down on her when he said that he wanted her to be by his side. He wanted her to be with him. It was like it took the wind out of her.. she had no idea what to say. She took a step closer to him, and reached out, taking his hands with her own. "He is beautiful, isn't he? Look at him skittering around. Our little night crawler." She quietly laughed. She looked from the baby, up to Magneto's gaze. "I don't know how to be a mother, either.." her voice was soft once more. "I've just been sort of winging it, to be completely honest.." It was a hard thing to admit, but it was the truth. Her mother was old, and didn't know how to be a mother herself since she had been in the asylum for so long, so Raven was on her own.
"Maybe we could learn together." She lifted a hand and lightly touched his cheek. "It's going to be hard.. but I don't want you to choose between us and the Brotherhood. Kurt is a smart boy.. we just have to find a way to figure out how to keep him away from trouble. Honestly.. I had thought for the first year, about sending him to Charles.. thinking he would be safe there.. but then I realized that that wouldn't be fair to either one of us.." She took a deep breath, and then closed her eyes. "I'm so sorry, Magneto. I'm sorry that I didn't bring him back here sooner, I'm just.. sorry that everything went wrong. If I could change it all I would have pushed my past behind me and I would have never left you that day when I went to Germany. I would have stayed with you.."
The truth was that she had thought about it several times. What if she would have stayed? Would her and Erik be raising the child the whole time? Would Kurt have gone with Charles to stay safe in his school? It was hard to say...and no one would ever know. "All we can do now is.. try..." She spoke softly as she took yet another step closer. "I don't want to leave you ever, ever again.."

Magneto could see the relief in her upon hearing his words. Her body language further revealed this as she stepped closer to him, taking her hands in his. He remained still, his fingers responded by lightly wrapping around her hands where she had taken his. She too said how beautiful Kurt was, and his eyes went to the boy. "Our little night crawler." "Nightcrawler," he reiterated, combining the two describing words into one. Into a mutant name. He watched the boy for a few moments longer before turning his gaze to Mystique as she spoke of how she did not know how to be a mother, saying that she had been just taking it as it came, suggesting that they could learn together. Magneto spoke of how he did not know what it was to be a father. And that had not changed. Perhaps with time, he would embrace this role. But right now, his mind was still processing everything and so could not offer false promises when he did not know what to say in regards to him being a father. He continued to watch her intently, the warmth of her hand giving him a familiar sensation that he had been deprived of for two years, and ten years before that night. She continued to be understanding, saying that she did not want him to have to choose between them and the Brotherhood. She had even admitted that she was thinking of leaving Kurt with Charles.
While Magneto would always love his friend as a brother, he would not want his son there. For he did not want him raised with the understanding that he had to hide from society because he looked different. That was after all, what had happened to Mystique. She had been brought up, believing that she had to hide in order to be accepted. He would not have Kurt develop that same mentality. "He may have been safe, but he would be raised believing that he had to hide from the world because of his mutation." Again, like his mother had been. "And he should be proud of it. Not ashamed of it." Magneto knew that if he did not accept his role as Kurt's father, then he was not entitled to make any decisions regarding the boy. He could not pick and choose in what aspects he wished to be a father. It was either fully embracing it, or not embracing it at all. He also had to take in account that he too was responsible for creating Kurt. So far, he agreed with her decision to not take him to Charles. Though it would be an entirely different matter if Mystique decided to go with Kurt to Charles . . . yet to Magneto's relief, that did not seem to be something she wanted. Ultimately, they appeared the want the same thing: to be together, regardless of what that involved. She went on to apologize. Apologize for not telling him about Kurt, apologize for not bringing him back sooner, and apologize for having left in the first place.
"You had to go," he told her, his voice continuing to be calm, yet not as distant as it was before. "I do not fault you on that. You needed to go." Just as he had needed to leave to Dallas; an action that had forever changed the course of their lives. So for her leaving, he did not blame her. Hell, the fact that they saw each other that night had been purely out of coincidence . . . or perhaps fate. A night where they had evidently conceived a child. "What's done is done. No good will come from lamenting in the past." If they did that, they would make no progress for the future, or even the present. He already told her that she should have told him, which she agreed with him upon. What more was there to say in regards to his disagreement about her decision? They needed to move on from that, and hopefully, they would. It was her final words of never wanting to leave him again that he had to focus on. She had returned to be with him. And he would never reject that. For his feelings for her had not faded. Perhaps it would be more logical and rational to let her go. To tell her that it would be too difficult to make this work. Yet the other part of him, the more selfish part of him, wanted to be with her. He did not often ignore rationality and logical decisions . . . but this was an exception. She always seemed to be the exception.
"Then do not," he told her, in response to her words of never wanting to leave him. He knew there would be missions, he knew that circumstances may cause them to be temporarily apart . . . but they needed to be united. They needed to remain united. "Come with me to the Brotherhood, and stay with me there. For all we have endured together and separately, let us put behind us. We were once united and strong." That one year they had been together in every meaning of the word . . . before Dallas. Before everything changed. "Let us be that again. Now. Starting tonight." He knew he would have to decide whether to full accept parenthood, or whether it was best to merely be a mentor in Kurt's life. The way he was talking however, suggested that he may already know what path he would take . . . but still would not offer confirmation until he knew for certain. He looked at Mystique, his gaze an intent one, not moving as she stepped closer to him, as there was no doubt or hesitations in his words. He meant every single one, just as he always did when speaking to her. "I need you to promise me this, Mystique." That she would not go and withhold such things from him. That she would not leave for initially what was meant to be a short time, and then return two years later. If she was with him, he needed her to be with him. And he could not let himself feel relief nor joy in her return, until she swore to him. No more secrets. No more hiding. No more doubt.

When he repeated what she had said, putting the two words together, she realized what he had done. He'd given Kurt a mutant name, just like the two of them had. "Yes.." Her smile widened. "Nightcrawler. Perfect." Magneto always had a way of saying the right things at the right time. Perhaps it was why she couldn't stay angry at him. Well, one of the reasons, rather. Really, she had no reason to be upset with Magneto for being afraid to be a father, and being angry that she kept Kurt from him. She deserved every ounce of anger she received from him. Mystique nodded silently when he spoke of how Kurt would have indeed been safe with Charles, but he would be subjected to the idea of hiding his abilities instead of embracing him. "You're absolutely right," She mused. "I want him to have a choice... just like we did. If he chooses to one day join Charles and his X-men," She inhaled, and then slowly exhaled, shaking her head. "Then, that is what he decides. For now though, He will be exposed to mutants accepting themselves for the glorious creatures we are."
After she had apologized over, and over again, he explained to her that he knew she had to go. He understood, and although it made her feel better, she still had regrets. He was right, however. There was no use in staying in the past.. it would only bring up pain. It was time to live in the present. "Thank you for understanding." she spoke in a voice just above a whisper. She spoke of never wanting to leave again, and he told her not to. He spoke of them being united and strong once more. The words he said.. he was always so inspirational. It helped her become stronger, and that was likely what she needed right now after everything she had been through. Although she was indeed strong, what happened with her family shook her more than she had let on. And then, the arrival of Kurt made her fear even more intense - especially since she was trying to do it all on her own. She was doing it for the good of the Brotherhood and Mutant Kind. They needed Erik.. just as she needed him. It was a sacrifice on her part that she could simply not make anymore. She needed to be selfish now. For her. For their son.
"I promise Magneto," She moved her hands so they were gently cupping his cheeks. "I promise you i'm here by your side. That this is where I'll stay for the rest of my days. I belong with the Brotherhood.. I belong with you. As does our son... Our Little Nightcrawler."

Magneto watched as her smile widened, as they mutually expressed their liking in the mutant name for Kurt they had just spontaneously created. It was important for every mutant to have one, or well that was what Magneto believed. A belief that was shared between them for Mystique too had seen the value in it. If she had not then she never would have asked him to call her Mystique, all those years ago. She after all, had been the one to coin his own mutant name. One he had always loved. She went on to say that he had been right, and the presenting the possibility of Nightcrawler joining Charles. The thought was, unsettling. Not because he had any ill feelings toward Charles, but because if Nightcrawler did decide to join the school . . . then it would reflect a failure on Magneto's part. A failure in having convinced Nightcrawler that he should not have to hide who he is. That he should not feel ashamed. That he should be proud to be a mutant, and hold pride in his appearance. If he went to Charles, then it meant he had decided to hide. And at the same time, Magneto would never force a mutant to stay in the Brotherhood . . . not even his own son. Son. The word still felt foreign to Magneto's mind, as he was still unable to speak such a powerful term. He vocalized none of these thoughts, keeping them within him as he silently listened.
She finished by saying that she promised to stay with him, with the Brotherhood. The words provided him with more comfort than he imagined possible. He knew he should not let his emotions cloud his judgment as being the leader of the Brotherhood. But when it came to Mystique, he had never been very good at suppressing his feelings. If he had, then he never would have developed such a strong relationship with her. She would have been like any other Brotherhood mutant but she was, and always had been, far more than that. Hell, he had even admitted that he loved her the night before she left. There was not going back from that, nor did he want to. For Magneto was not a man who spoke false words. He stood by them, and that was perhaps why he now wanted her to come back to him, rather than abandon her and with it, all notions of being a father. He slightly titled his head upward, as she cupped his cheeks, finding her touch something he had been craving for so many years. Had Nightcrawler not been in their company, he may have even taken this opportunity to kiss her. But with him among them, and with Magneto's uncertainty as to how much Nightcrawler knew of his father, Magneto withheld the tempting urge to properly welcome her back.
"I agree in that it is important he is given the choice, however I will do all I can to ensure he is proud to be a mutant. That he embraces his mutation." Whether he embraced the role of his father or not, Magneto would at the very least be his a mentor. And his words were a promise that he would play an active role in the boy's life, as some sort of figure. One that Magneto knew he would soon have to decide upon and determine. He knew that Mystique too would ensure this, but considering how ambiguous he had been in his decision to be Nightcrawler's father, he wanted to at least give her assurance that she would not be alone in raising him. That others would be there, that he would be there -- as he previously stated, either as a mentor or a father. Perhaps both, if that was what was best for him. "Now, it is time to go home," he stated. Their home. Wishing her to be within the walls of the home they had created so many years ago. Though populated with others, he and Mystique had been among the first in the Brotherhood, and there would always be a place for her there. As well as a strong lacking presence whenever she was absent. He found himself still basking in the relief of knowing she would be with him, and with any hope, there would be no more major events to force them apart for a prolonged period of time. He moved his hand on hers still cupping his cheek and brought her hand to his lips, kissing the back of it. "I imagine you and Nightcrawler must be tired," he further added.

Mystique nodded at Magneto's words. Of course he'd try to lean Kurt in to the direction that he and Mystique both worked so very hard at creating, and Mystique would do it as well. There was no right, or wrong choice, though.. and that would ultimately come down to Kurt. She could hope though, that he chose to not hide himself, and his beauty. She wanted him to show it to the world. "I hope he makes the decision to be strong.. like you." Like her as well, she supposed..but it would have been wonderful if Kurt were to grow up to be like Magneto. Strong, fearless, brave.. a leader for mutant kind to look up to when they didn't want to hide themselves. Of course she wouldn't fault him for joining his Uncle Charles, either.. for the mutants that were afraid, and feeling alone, they needed a strong, brave leader too..and that was Charles Xavier.
Magneto spoke of them going 'home'. Those words always felt strong to her. No matter how many times she had heard them, especially coming from Magneto. Home meant so much to the girl who had no home for the first several years of her life. "Home sounds really nice right now..." She wasn't at home in Germany. Not even with her mother, while she was still alive, even though the two of them made peace. As much peace as they could have made, at least. And then he mentioned that she and Nightcrawler must be tired. She looked over at the baby on the ground who was sitting still, nearly falling asleep. Apparently he was defeated by the fireflies he'd been chasing. "Oh yes. Definitely." Her gaze lifted and she looked in to his eyes. Kurt was right there, so she couldn't do anything suggestive, but her next words, and the look in her eyes alluded to her certainly being able to be suggestive without being blatent about it. "However, he's far more tired than I am."
Although it was only two years this time, it was still too long to be away from Magneto. Which meant, that she wanted to be in his arms. She missed his lips, and the way his hands felt on her. Not to mention he was starting to get a salt and pepper thing going on which really made her start to swoon. She gave him a smile with a rather devious look in her golden eyes, and then she turned and lifted little Kurt in her arms, and then she grabbed the bag that housed his diapers and bottles, and then she grabbed her suitcase. It was a lot of things to carry, but she had gotten used to it. However, she looked at Magneto once more and quirked a brow. "Would.. you like to hold him?.."

Mystique spoke of how she hoped that Kurt would make the decision to be strong, like him. And he knew it was not just his strength that he hoped was in the child. "And like his mother," Magneto added. For Mystique's strength could be more comparable. She held physical characteristics that evidently showed she was a mutant, as did Kurt. If the boy had even an ounce of her strength and courage, then he would make the right decision. He would not live in fear of humans. And Magneto was not going to dismiss Mystique's own strength so spoke words to bring attention to it. She then spoke of how home sounded nice, and he knew that such a home would be all the more true to the word when she was there with him. His eyes followed hers to Nightcrawler as they watched him drifting off to sleep before he turned his gaze back to Mystique to meet her own. Her expression and words to follow were easily understood by him, and this only came due to years of experience of being with her.
It caused an ever so slight smile to curve onto his lips, thinking of the underlying meaning of her words, aware that she spoke them carefully and subtly in the presence of the boy. And he found himself rather eager to explore her . . . energy. Or lack of tiredness. Too long had she been from his bed and too many nights had he slept alone. He hoped tonight would be the first of many where they no longer had to feel that deprivation due to the absence of each other's company. Her expression, that smile, only made him wish they could hurry home sooner to once again, start making up for lost time. It had first been ten years, then only one night, and then a follow two. He hoped that now, they would have the rest of their lives. "Well in that case, I can certainly think of a way to spend our time in your absence of fatigue." His words too were not blatant in their suggestiveness, though he said them in a way so that she too would understand his own desires. Ones that were always so very strong whenever it came to her. He then watched her as she picked up Kurt and then the bag and suitcase . . . and then she asked if he wanted to hold him.
Magneto paused, his eyes on the sleeping boy in her arms. Their son. The word still unable to fall from his lips as it had not even fully processed in his mind. He remained silent and still for a few moments, before answering her question. "He should be in his mother's arms," he decided. Though he believed the words to be true, he also knew he was evading anything that would place him in the role of father. At least for now. Instead, he reached for the bag and suitcase, taking it from her and holding it so that she need only carry Kurt. He then turned and began walking toward the car, ensuring to keep a pace that was not too quick for her so that they remained alongside one another. "What does his mutation entail?" Magneto asked, wondering if he held any powers in addition to the physical characteristics he displayed. At least the subject of mutations was one more easily spoken of. For he was speaking of the boy as a fellow mutant, not necessarily as his son.

Mystique wasn't expecting Magneto to want to hold his son just yet, so she wasn't going to hold it against him. Instead, a small smile played on her features, and she quietly laughed. "Fair enough. Would you mind carrying my bag, then? I can hold his." She was strong, sure, but even Mystique had difficulties carrying two bags and a baby. Once they were on their way back to the Brotherhood HQ, Magneto asked about Kurt's abilities. "Well, so far it's just his skin color, the tail, and the eyes. But I expect that his abilities will grow along with his age."
That was how it had happened with her, after all. Her powers grew with her. Granted, Kurt was born with his looks and she didn't develop her's until she was in the double digits, but seeing that both of his parents were mutants where both sets of his grandparents were normal humans, she suspected that he would grow in to something incredible. "Honestly, though? I can't wait to see what he'll grow in to. It could be anything. I think it's rather exciting to have a chance to watch a young mutant grow in to his powers." It was a different case otherwise. They had met the young mutants normally after they'd already come in to their abilities.
Kurt was already drifting as he laid his head on Mystique's shoulder. As they walked, she kept a light bounce in her step so that he'd stay asleep. "Even though it's only been two years, i can't believe i'm finally at your side again.." She spoke softly so that she wouldn't wake the sleeping little Nightcrawler. "I haven't been able to stop thinking about you."

Mystique thankfully had not seemed to mind that he preferred not to hold the sleeping child, and therefore had instead, taken the initiative of carrying her luggage. It seemed far less substantial, compared to an infant. She went on to answer his question regarding the boy's mutation, revealing that it had not yet fully manifested, apart from the evident physical appearance that he held. "He already looks quite magnificent," Magneto replied. "And I am certain that when his abilities begin to manifest, his magnificence will only grow." She spoke of how it would be exciting to watch a mutant grow into his powers and Magneto was inclined to agree with this. It was one thing to take in a young mutant, train them, and help them in controlling their powers. This, was an entirely different situation. Not to mention the major difference of it was that the young mutant was their child. A product of the affections that he and Mystique had for one another. "I agree," Magneto stated, vocalizing his thoughts. "It will be a new and unfamiliar experience, for us both." Those first moments of seeing flickers of what Nightcrawler could do, to witnessing him grow into a fine mutant . . . and yet, the thought still felt, unsettling to Magneto.
The thought of being a father still caused him uncertainty. Luckily, Mystique diverted the subject; a welcome topic change. Though the subject was of course ultimately connected to this entire circumstance. "The feeling is mutual," he told her in a low voice, turning his head so that he could look at her as he spoke his words with the utmost sincerity. Speaking aloud his feelings had never been a strong suit, but it came easier with Mystique. "Twelve years," he stated, summing up the total time they had been apart. Twelve years of thinking of her, hoping she was safe and able to stay free from the clutches of humans' cruelty. Ten of those years spent in the confinement of a prison, and the other two when she had returned home. Though that had been slightly easier for he had received word from her that she was safe and well. But still, only slightly easier. For it was never easy to be apart from her. "We have spent more time apart than together. Yet hopefully now, this will be rectified." Twelve years compared to the one year they shared together. And yet, that one year had been strong enough to keep her firmly in his heart, regardless of what circumstances and conditions forced them apart.

If there was one thing that Mystique learned about Magneto, it was to read between the lines when he spoke about things. She was able to figure out that although he didn't want to hold the child just yet, he was not unhappy about him. Instead, he might even appreciate the boy a little more because of the hue of his skin. She took pride in it as well, actually. It showed that without a doubt, he was her baby boy. Of course he didn't have many attributes to show who his father was, so it wasn't a surprise that Magneto was a little hesitant at first. "I can't wait to see what sort of person he grows in to. I think about it a lot.. what his personality will be. He's already so wise.. I don't know why I think so, but I can just see it in his eyes." Those eyes, by the way, were now closed once more and he was fast asleep in her arms.
"It will be definitely an new experience." One that they could likely handle, but it would take quite a bit of work on both of their ends. It made her feel a little nervous though, in a way. He had a leadership role to fill, and as his right hand, she couldn't take that away from him. She'd never want to. She wanted to be right there beside him, fighting for what they believed in. Having a child, although he was a blessing to her, was going to be a difficult obstacle.
"Magneto, I want you to know something," She paused, trying to find words to express what she wanted to say. "If you decide that it's too much to handle... that you just can't cope with all of this..." She looked up at him, still walking at his side. "I'll figure something out. I don't want anything to feel like a burden to you. You're too important to the cause. You're meant to change the world.. but I also never want to be apart from you that long again. We've been away from each other far too long, and we're far too excellent of a team to break apart." Not just an excellent team, though.. there was so much more to them.

She spoke of how she was eager to see what kind of person Nightcrawler would grow to be. And Magneto would be lying if he denied that he shared that same intrigue and curiosity. To see a mutant so young, and -- as Mystique had spoken of -- to soon see his powers manifest . . . it was truly a beautiful thing. And to hear that she felt his intelligence was strong, well, that certainly made sense. And Magneto was unsure whether it was a natural paternal instinct within him -- for he could not explain how he felt -- but a strong sense of pride filled his heart. "Considering whose blood he has, he will undoubtedly be far more intelligent than most others." A combined intellect of Mystique and himself. Yes. Kurt would indeed be a genius in every sense of the word. And once again, Magneto found himself rather looking forward to seeing his intellect develop.
She then went on to say that she did not want him to feel obligated or burdened by this. How well she knew him. For she was giving him an out should he wish to take it. He did appreciate her understanding, especially since he had not yet made any decisions as to what to do. She knew that, and she even accepted that, expressing her understanding in the event that he chose not to embrace the role of fatherhood. The way she spoke of him so highly as well, caused him to turn his head to look at her, a slightly softer expression than the one he showed the world. One that he would only reveal in her presence, and even then, only when they were alone. "I concur," he stated in agreement to her words about them being an excellent team. "Whether I embrace a parental role or not, I wish to be in your life. I want you to stay. And I know that involves being in Nightcrawler's life as well." He was not going to ask for one without the other.
"Either way, I intend to be in both your lives." He promised her that; for even if he wasn't Kurt's known father, at the very least . . . he would gladly be his mentor. A figure in the boy's life as he grew up. And though one may argue that that was what being a father entailed, Magneto knew it was so much more than that. And he was not one to give only half his effort into anything. "And I appreciate your understanding in the delicacy of this matter. Know that whatever I decide, it will be for the good of you, Nightcrawler, and the Brotherhood." That he was not going to make any selfish decision that disregarded their positions. He had to make decisions based on rationality, rather than personal desire. It had been why he'd tried to kill her years ago . . . and why he cared for her so much. Because despite that, she understood the reasons. And they had successfully moved passed it . . . onto this.

The conversation the two of them were having was certainly not normal for them. With such a spanse of time being away from each other, they'd likely be lost in each other's embrace by now - but that would have to wait until they reached the Brotherhood Headquarters. For now, they were locked in a moment that was somewhere between awkward and emotional. It was lucky that Nighrcrawler was completely asleep, because sometimes Raven could swear that he was hearing and understanding every word she said at times. He was far too wise for his young age. It was both intriguing and alarming. When Erik phrased his words such as 'whether or not', it made her feel a slight ball in the pit of her stomach.
She wasn't sure how to feel, just as she was sure he wasn't sure, either. She'd not fault him should he decide that he didn't want to be a parent. "I know that everything you do will be in the best interest of the child and the Brotherhood. I haven't a doubt in my mind you'll make the best decision for everyone involved - yourself included. Just know that if you decide not to take the role of father, he will never have to know that it is you. He wlll be raised as a child of the brotherhood, and when he begins to have questions, we will think of something to tell him. But no matter what happens," With her free hand, she reached out to take his, intertwining their fingers casually "I'll be at your side."

Mystique spoke of how she knew he would do whatever was in the best interest of all those involved . . . and that she would not tell Kurt who his father was, should Magneto not wish to embrace the role. He was not sure how he felt about that. Would he be able to do it? To reject his parental role in a child's life, but be near him all the time? Something inside of him made it seem like it would be a difficult task . . . and perhaps it was that same feeling that could be referred to as paternal instinct. For he had never experienced it before and it had only started when he found out that he was a father to a son. To Mystique's son. To their son. He grew distracted from his thoughts when he felt her hand reach for his, casually taking hold of it. He was not one who usually engaged in public displays of affection, but he found the warmth of her hand to be comforting. Especially after being without her for so long. He felt -- dare he say -- that they were a family. And these thoughts and feelings he feared, were going to be what clouded better judgment as to whether it was best to acknowledge Kurt as his son.
To hear that regardless of the outcome, she would remain at his side, continued to reassure him that this time, they would be together. For they have spent more time apart than with each other, and that was something he wanted to change. "Good," he said with an ever so slight smile. For he had asked her to promise him to stay -- not out of force, but in a way that she should never feel she had to avoid him. That they would not share any more grand secrets from one another. Well, none that effected them being together. "For we must compensate for the time we've been apart. As it is far too great compared to the time we have spent together." And he could not wait to start making up for that time. They continued to make their way toward headquarters and once they arrived at the car, he loaded her luggage inside and wave open the door for her to settle Kurt inside. This would indeed be something to explain to the others, but he was not concerned with that. He was more concerned about his capabilities of raising a child, and while he was not doing it alone . . . he also wondered what he was more incapable of: raising a child, or seeing him every day and denying him as his son.
