Character Basics
.:Name of Character:. Corin Danvers .:Species:. Mutant .:Alias:. Felix [Latin for "luck"] .:Year Born:. 1939 .:Affiliation:. Undecided
Appearance
.:Physical Appearance:. Corin is of moderate height and has a slender build, brown hair and blue eyes. He takes pride in his appearance and can often be found wearing a suit, or at least a shirt and jacket. He is usually clean shaven, although this is not always the case but he is adamant he will never grow a beard. As a child, his mother would always dress him in dull, dark clothing so as an adult he prefers a brighter and in some respect more flamboyant style. He usually parts his hair to one side with a slight quiff and can be seen with a cigarette either between his fingers or in his mouth. .:Height:. 5'11 .:Portrayed by:. Sam Claflin
Personality
.:Personality:. As a child, Corin preferred his own company to that of his older brothers. When they did spend time with him it was usually to bully or play pranks on him and so he tried to avoid them as best he could. Even before he discovered his mutation he felt like an outsider amongst his family. He had a particular dislike of his eldest brother Jonathan, and became envious that he was said to resemble their deceased father more than Corin did. Throughout his youth, his father became rather idealised and seen as someone without faults or flaws to the extent that he did not speak to his mother for three months after she remarried. For Corin, his father was the only person who he thought treated him with respect and actually cared about him, even though he was just over a year old when he died.
Discovering his mutation solidified this belief that he was different to everyone else in his family, resulting in him almost disregarding them and becoming proud and distant – it was only during his twenties that he met another mutant. Corin, unable to best his brothers physically, had learnt to become manipulative, again, something which was furthered through his mutation and he started to view people simply by how they could or could not be advantageous to him. When meeting new people he comes across and warm and polite, but there are very few people who he actually likes. However, he sets very high standards for himself, especially in how he treats people. He is happy to use them for his own gain but he always treats them with respect, even though he does not usually respect them at all.
.:Powers/Abilities:. Probability Altering. This allows Corin to alter the likelihood of events to produce outcomes of his choosing, so for example, if someone were to point a gun at him, he could manipulate the probability of the bullet hitting him in order to survive. However, this only works if the outcome is not fixed so if, for instance, there was an unopened box, he could not manipulate the probability of it containing whatever he wanted as there is already something inside it. He is also unable to manipulate the probability of someone thinking something or doing something, although he could set up a scenario in which they are perhaps more likely to do what he wanted but it would still ultimately be out of his control.
The more unlikely a thing is to happen, the more energy it takes to manipulate things and the weaker he will be after causing it to happen. As with a lot of mutants his abilities are tied into his emotions; strong emotions may give him a temporary power boost but they can also make his abilities more unpredictable. As a general rule, to use his powers he turns his wrist while bending his fingers inwards to touch his palm but he can also use them without moving at all should he concentrate hard enough.
History
.:Birthplace:. Canterbury, UK .:Family:. Father – Cpt. Alexander Danvers (died 1940)
Mother – Ruth Conway (formerly Danvers, remarried)
Older brothers – Jonathan, Thomas and Andrew .:Occupation:. Currently none, uses his abilities to gain money .:Current Location of Residence:. New York .:History:. Born a few months prior to the outbreak of the Second World War, Corin Danvers lived with his parents and three older brothers in Kent, England. His family was technically old money, although they had spent it all by the time his father came into his inheritance and so he married a wealthy American, the daughter of a successful businessman from New York. His father had already been a pilot in the RAF before the war and was killed during the Battle of Britain in 1940. After the war ended, his mother took her sons to the USA to live with her father where she remarried but did not have any more children.
Although his childhood was not an unhappy one, Corin was not particularly interested in his family and tended to keep to himself. As he was the youngest of four brothers, he was usually either bullied and teased, or left out entirely. He had a particularly turbulent relationship with his elder brother Jonathan, who was said to be the most like their father (something Corin always envied) and yet did very little aside from gambling and drinking. It was through his brother’s gambling that his powers first manifested themselves, Corin being around thirteen or fourteen at the time. He was reading in the family home while Jonathan was playing poker. Despite not knowing it was his doing at the time, Corin was manipulating the game so that his brother would lose – this was done by manipulating the way the cards were shuffled, and therefore which ones his brother would be given. It only took a few months to realise that whenever he wanted a particular outcome to happen, more often than not it would and though he was yet to understand why he soon leant how to use this to his advantage.
He ended up following in Jonathan’s footsteps as he grew older and made rather a lot of money for himself in various casinos and gambling dens, saving it up until he could move out of the family home and found somewhere for himself in New York. The term “mutant” was a foreign one to him until his early twenties when he first came into contact with others like him. This led to him starting to disassociate himself from humans and becoming more at ease with using his powers for his own gain. Although he agrees that mutants are the superior race, he has yet to affiliate himself with any particular group.
Sample Post
It was raining, which was an unwanted occurrence and reminded Corin just how much he would prefer it if his power allowed him to manipulate the probability of blue skies and a warm breeze but, seeing as it was February and currently the middle of the night, that was unfortunately something that would require far more power than he possessed. As it happened, all he could do was stand further into the doorway and make sure the wind direction did not change. He lit a cigarette and checked his watch. It was only a half hour past midnight which, in his opinion, was far too early to be thinking about returning home. The night was still young and he was sure there was still plenty of people out there who no doubt deserved to be surrendering their money to him over a pint and a deck of cards or a flipped coin.
He had been sent a letter from his mother earlier that day, filled with the usual inquiries as to why he had not found himself a proper job yet and was there a young lady who had caught his eye and when was he next going back to visit her. Corin had simply thrown it in the bin. There was no need for a “proper” job when he could make all the money he needed without having to lift a finger – metaphorically speaking, all he actually had to was take a bet, flip a coin and flick his wrist: the flip and flick as he called it. It was perhaps not the most moral way of making a living, but he was in no doubt that it was more satisfying than being a banker or a lawyer or whatever it was his brothers had found themselves doing. And so, with that in mind, he stubbed out his cigarette and started walking down the street in search of some over confident fool who thought they could encounter him, and retain their money.
