She rather enjoys learning and dedicates a great deal of time to her studies and academics.
She is an optimist and tends to see the better side of people, which can sometimes lead to being slightly naive. She also has difficulty trusting others, afraid to let herself become emotionally vulnerable for it opens up to the possibility of getting hurt. She is an excellent listener, but has trouble opening up herself. She knows right from wrong, and has strong values. She believes in the cause that the X-Men fight for, and proudly calls them her family. .:Powers/Abilities:. Teleportation & Teleportation Warps: Clarice can create special wars in her near vicinity, effectively creating doorways at two points through which people or objects could pass, instantly being transported from one open portal to the next without having to travel the space in between. She uses this as a mode of transport, these warps can be positioned to move herself and others freely around to quickly transfer them to new locations. This can also be used strategically to redirect the attacks of enemies and allies so that their attack is launched back at them. She can create multiple portals at the same time to disorientate the attacker.
A weakness to this power is that she can not create these portals at a far distance. It must be within a certain limit. It can also be extremely draining to transport heavier objects and people, compared to herself and small items. She is still training and learning how to use these abilities to the best of her potential.
Her mutant name Blink was given to her because the sound that is created as she makes a portal sounds like a blinking noise.
History
.:Birthplace:. United States .:Family:. Mother, father, two brothers, and two sisters .:Occupation:. Student .:Current Location of Residence:. Xavier's Mansion/School .:History:. Clarice was born as the middle child of 5. They were an upper class family and her parents were often concerned with keeping up appearances and having a good reputation in the community. With that, came some pressure, particularly when Clarice began to realize that she wasn't like the other members of her family. Around the age of 12, her powers began to manifest. It started with her randomly transporting herself places, unsure how she did it, and becoming extremely frightened when she found herself in a new surrounding. It most often occurred at night when she was in her bedroom, and by morning, her parents would become furious when she got home, believing that she had sneaked out in the middle of the night. The more this happened, the more terrified she became at her inability to control her.
She tried to explain it to her parents, but obviously, almost being a teeanger, they didn't believe her. However, as this continued, her body began to undergo physical changes. Her eyes began to change color. They had always been green, an inconsistency with the rest of her family, but they began to turn more vibrant, more, unnatural. In addition to that, her hair began to grow purple streaks and markings on her forehead began to surface. Her parents were of course furious. They demanded that she wear contacts, she dye her hair black and attempted to scrub off the marks, they even took her to a surgeon to try and get the tattoo removed until they realized it was permanent. Regardless of how much Clarice obliged to her parents demands, none of it worked. These physical attributes were there to stay.
Apart from her home life becoming tense, school became a nightmare. She was constantly teased and bullied, being called an Alien because of her resemblance to one. This took a hit on Clarice's self esteem and she began to grow insecure and emotionally damaged by all the ridicule and mockery. Her parents took her to a private doctor to try and find out what was happening, but the doctor was at a loss. Needing to keep up with societal standards and what was expected of them as an elite family, they refused to take Clarice anywhere with them, saying that she shamed them by the way she looked. Being rejected in school and by her parents, caused her to have severely low self esteem, for nothing she did was able to change who she was.
When she was fifteen, another life altering incident took place, one that would change the course of her life. She was arguing with one of her brothers about something, and the two were getting increasingly upset, especially Clarice. As the argument became more heated, a purple force began to emerge from her hand. She was so distracted yelling at her brother, that she didn't notice it. Not until her instincts reacted to it and she raised her hand forward, pushing the purple creation in front of her too. It charged at her brother, becoming a portal, and instantly made him disappear. A shocked Clarice stood there, having no idea what had just occurred. She knew it happened to her all the time, but couldn't explain how she had made it happen to him.
She then heard a crash outside and when she hurried out, she saw her brother had gotten hit by a car. She had somehow teleported him to the middle of the road, and having no time to stop, the driver hit him. He was rushed to the hospital and was lucky to have only received a broken leg. She was also relieved to find out that the driver too was alright. But Clarice was all too aware that it could have been worse, and that it could happen again. Her parents sent her home, still disallowing her to be out in public until she 'fixed' herself, so while the rest of the family was at the hospital with her brother, she took advantage of everyone's absence. She packed a bag and left a note for her parents. With that, she left her house and ventured into the world.
Not having been on her own, she immediately struggled. She couldn't afford to stay in a hotel, so would sleep out on the streets some nights. That is, until she came across someone else. Another person like her, in the sense... that they too had inexplicable abilities. They told her about a school for people like her, for mutants. Having lived an extremely sheltered life, she had no idea that there were others out there, and suddenly, felt hope. Arriving at the school confirmed that she was rightful to hope, as it showed that she was not alone.
It was here that she found a true family, one that accepted her, one that did not ridicule her. More importantly, she learned how to use her gift; how to control it and how to avoid hurting anyone else from it. She has tried to make contact with her parents, but their refusal to talk to her showed two things. The first, was that they clearly disowned her. And the second, was that they felt relief that she had left, not having to hide her anymore or having to explain to others why she looked the way she did. While Clarice will always miss her family, she had found a new one among the X-Men, and is happy to stay with them.
Sample Post
Clarice stood in front of the mirror in her room, inspecting her appearance. She was not vain, but she knew how important first impressions were. That was something her parents had taught her. She knew she should dismiss all such materialistic philosophies that they had ingrained in her, but she couldn't help it. She was nervous today. It was her first day at school. Or well, at this school. It seemed to be a rather accepting place but one could not be too sure. With the names she had been called in the past, she feared reliving that ridicule again. And yet, from the moment she arrived, no one had looked at her funny. No one had treated her like she was a freak; an anomaly. One student even said 'nice hair' as they crossed paths. She had no idea who they were, but the tone was not sarcastic or mocking. Dare she say, it was genuine.
She took a deep breath, fiddling with the smallest detail of whether she should wear her braid to the side, or at the back. It was so petty and yet, it was the one small thing she could control. She didn't know what she would be walking into right now. Everyone here seemed so nice and she wanted to believe that this type of safe haven truly came without a price. She had to risk it, for she had nothing else to lose. Deciding on a braid to the side, she looked over herself one more time before grabbing her backpack and heading to the door. First day of school; first day of class. "You'll be alright," she whispered under her breath, needing to give herself a little positive encouragement. Closing her eyes for a moment, taking yet another deep breath, she emerged from her room. The first thing she saw was someone racing down the hall at impossible speed. It caused her to be startled for a moment and then she felt her body relax. She wasn't alone and this place proved that.
