He breathed a quiet snort at Pyro’s comment on him being a teacher’s pet. He supposed it did come across like that to other students and it hadn’t always been that way before he’d come here. Back at his old school he’d wanted to do well, sure, his parents had always been on his back about grades and achievements and how important they were if he ever wanted to get a decent job. The thing was Bobby hadn’t cared much for the idea of a decent job, whatever that was, but rather he’d always had the yearning for something more. Something better than the life his parents had with their comforts and unhappiness.
Once he’d arrived at Xavier’s, the need to prove himself had well and truly kicked in. Here he could have the chance to do something amazing so it was true that he usually did his best to aim high and show he had what it took to be great some day. Distraction though, that was always a threat to his determination and too often a welcome one, particularly when it came in the form of a fire mutant who was always up for trouble of some kind. “How do I know you still won’t burn them… don’t burn them.” He added the request right after a thought that John might take his words as some kind of encouragement and light them up anyway. He had his doubts that his friend would but it was sometimes difficult to tell just what Pyro might do, apart from that whatever it was it would possibly be something frowned upon by most. “I really don’t want to write all that out again and you don’t want me to quit being your drinking buddy right now so leave them alone. On the floor, all messed up, out of order.”He exhaled another slightly dramatic sigh as he spoke, looking mournfully over the scattered notes one last time and switched it for a smile when John met his gaze again. His eyes went briefly to the lighter, a familiar sight and that sound, while it annoyed some Bobby was inexplicably fond of it in a way but he couldn’t say why. He felt a little swell of pride when his friend implied he’d do well in this particular exam whether it was true or not. “That’s because Storm doesn’t know that your mortal enemy is well organized study materials and sober study companions.” Laughing, Bobby shook his head, but his amusement gave way to something else when John rose and stood in front of him to take a drink from the bottle. Something about the position warmed his cheeks with mild embarrassment although not enough that he could fully register why, but still his gaze roamed slowly up from midway to watch Pyro swallowing the liquor, and down again before glancing away. He tried a joke. “An official experiment then? What’s your hypothesis?”John Allerdyce

Everything was hazy. His head, his view, his memory, and he wasn’t even sure he was awake just yet but he was trying his best to get there. Sadly, his best was hindered by sleep battling to keep him right there, wherever there was now he thought about it. Eyes closed, he recounted what he could remember from the night before and every step to this point. It wasn’t as successful as he hoped with more solid memories from earlier on in the evening skipping to flashes of broken images and conversations as it went on, and there was still the matter of where he was.
With some effort and mental persuasion he forced himself to move, adjusting only a little but it was enough to send his head spinning and a feeble groan escaped as it did. Deciding to give up on moving Bobby instead did his best to figure out where he was, confused when he tried and eventually his attention fell to his clothes. His own boxers and a shirt that didn't belong to him. He reached to tug at it and just then a nearby door opened wide and he was squinting up at Pyro. It took him several long moments to register what was happening while John stood over him with words that even in his current state filled Bobby with nervous irritation once it sank in and along with it the recollection of waking up next to John, planning on a hasty panicked retreat and choosing the wrong door before a stumble down. It seemed he had stayed there. As that panic began to seep back in he attempted, awkwardly, to get out of the closet. “I wasn’t in.. shut up and help me out of here.”John Allerdyce

Bobby listened, arms still crossed over his chest in a way that felt like it could possibly keep some distance between them in this conversation, or maybe it was just a physical reflection of how he was trying to hold himself together. He was upset with all that had happened before and during the battle and had barely had a chance to process properly because others needed his support. Younger mutants at the mansion needed to see him steady and the X-Men had to see he was capable. No matter what he thought was expected of him all he wanted to do right at this moment was sit down with an old friend and talk over how he felt, but that seemed impossible. “Not nearly enough.” There had been too many lives lost that could have been avoided, both mutant and human, strangers and people he knew well enough. There was guilt for that too, for not managing to do more and he knew he wasn’t the only one feeling that and worse.
He finally gave a roll of eyes at the first remark but it was halfhearted and slight, and he focused on the colorful bruise spreading across Pyro’s head. The next question had Bobby meeting his gaze but he didn’t have an immediate answer ready. He hadn’t even thought it over, the reasons why, there had been no debating with himself at the time. It had just been a natural reaction but faced with having to explain himself he stumbled over his words at first. "Do.. what, bring you with me? You.. I was… you were out cold. What was I supposed to do, just leave you there? I didn’t want you to die.” The only way he could try make the last statement sound less important was to give a tense shrug and move to sit back down on the chair, but it was the truth nonetheless. “He could accidentally totally intentionally tip his shades and take you out if he wanted. Tell everyone you spontaneously combusted and they’d all believe him because you’re a hothead.” He hoped and believed Scott would never actually harm a student intentionally no matter how stern and serious he was most of the time. The man was still a part of the X-Men and Bobby had looked up to him since the day he’d met him but he could admit that John wasn’t entirely wrong in his summation. While he tried his best to keep interested and focused in all the classes he had to take, sometimes they were just overflowing with monotony and hard to take in. Sadly, Scott delivered at least one class in the curriculum like that even if Bobby thought he was more engaging in others.
Watching Pyro take a drink from the bottle he raised his brows and fought his smile back. “So you’re just trying to get me into trouble while I’m minding my own business being a good student? Same as every day then.” With his amusement reappearing he was close to agreeing with John on the issue of studying being far from the most important thing in life, even if it seemed it was exactly that at times. Until his friend scattered his books and notes. “John!“ After an initial jolt as if to attempt to save them as they fell he instead watched helplessly as papers floated down to settle in a disorganized mess on the bedroom floor. “I had those all in the right order.”With a defeated sigh Bobby turned to his friend, the two closer since John had slid himself along the desk to clear its contents. “You couldn't have just carefully moved them somewhere else?” There was an attempt at a disapproving look but it crumbled when faced with John’s expression and Bobby took the bottle again with a quietly resigned laugh. Maybe he would prefer to spend time with the pyrokinetic rather than frowning over his books which he knew he should be doing instead, but somehow John always managed to draw his attention away from whatever he was doing. After another considerable swig went down against his better judgement he handed the bottle back and retreated to flop down on his bed, legs over the edge. “I’m probably gonna blow it anyway.” He followed his complaint with a playfully mocking grin. “But hey! At least I’ll go down with you.”John Allerdyce

When he’d arrived in the medical bay Pyro was still unconscious as far as he could tell, but Bobby stayed and settled himself into a chair nearby the bed where John was resting. He couldn’t sit still for long and no sooner had he gotten as comfortable as he could in the chair, he was up again and looking over the fire mutant wondering how long he would be out. The possibility that he wouldn’t actually wake up at all hit Bobby and he began to pace. That was crazy, he had to wake up and be back to his normal self again soon. Thankfully before Bobby could get a significant panic worked up Pyro finally woke and the cryokinetic froze on the spot, wide-eyed as he watched the labored movements.
When John spoke Bobby might have laughed if the circumstances had been different, or given a friendly roll of his eyes at the remark he’d made. In light of reality he exhaled a quiet huff in relief that at least his former friend had awoken with a sardonic greeting that was almost warming to hear. “The Brotherhood didn’t get Worthington or the kid, if that’s what you’re wondering.” That seemed like the very least of matters to tell Pyro about now but he was working up to it and avoiding the news about Magneto. “We had to get everybody we could off the island, nobody could stop Jean, not even your great leader. So… we had to go.” The losses of Jean and others were still pressing on them all and somehow now making everything he said sound stilted and clinical in his own ears. “Logan stayed behind to deal with it and I brought you here so you didn’t end up a pile of ash, so, you’re welcome.”John Allerdyce

John’s grin was contagious even with Bobby’s misgivings on the matter of stealing the scotch and what consequences might befall his friend and himself now he’d been pulled into this, so his own smile perked up again at Pyro’s dismissive devil-may-care reply. Bobby couldn’t help it and something about the other mutant spoke to his younger more carefree self that maybe still existed somewhere under all the pressure he’d partly placed on himself. And John was fun, he had to admit it along with any caution he felt about anything they did. “He might just actually murder you with his death glare. Stare you dead and we’ll be finding pieces of you scattered around for weeks.”He was right though and Bobby had no idea what they would really do to him if they found out. They couldn’t send John home or anywhere else for that and he would have protested it for his friend if they’d have tried. Aside from that they were safely hidden away in his room now, just the two of them, nobody would know. Turning to watch as Pyro perched on the desk with a glance to the discarded books, he gave a hesitant moment of further consideration and took the offered bottle. “Maybe just a little, but then I gotta get back to studying, okay?” He took a larger swig than he wanted, but assumed a small sip would be mocked so he might as well get it over with, handing the bottle back with a wince. He had to admit that it tasted a whole lot better than the one he’d tried that time from his father’s liquor cabinet back home. The burn of this at the back of his throat felt nice. “It’s not bad… not bad at all. That means you’re definitely dead for swiping the good stuff.”John Allerdyce

Exams. If anything could send stress levels soaring throughout most of the mansion it was exams. Honestly there were countless other stresses in their daily lives, the whole mutation thing for an obvious start, but exams had that special quality of being something that they needed to deal with despite the rest of their lives being so extraordinary. He’d heard complaints against the whole thing and claims that mutants had no need for normal things like educational qualifications, but that wasn’t the way at Xavier’s.
While Bobby hadn’t always been consistent with his schoolwork before coming here, nowadays he tried his best to focus and do well in everything that came his way. He’d wanted to impress people like the Professor and Scott from the moment he’d arrived, show that he had something to offer even if it was more in the power training area. Academically, it never hurt to be able to let his parents know he was getting decent grades and in turn lower the chances they’d take issue and find out this place wasn’t a prep school sooner rather than later. And Bobby would prefer much later.
Having just managed to get his head around the particular topic he was studying an interruption probably wasn’t the best thing, but he felt a wave of gratitude for it when his friend showed up. He spun in his seat with a smile to greet John but it wavered when he saw the bottle. “Where’d you get that, is that from the kitchen?" He rose from his desk and took a step closer, eyes on the alcohol. "You know Scott’s gonna kill you, right?” John Allerdyce

The chaos of the battle on Alcatraz Island had stunned them in numerous ways and Bobby had been one of those who had spent most of the journey back to the mansion in almost complete silence. Aside from a few brief single word answers or remarks he had stayed quiet, unable to form any kind of coherent commentary on all that had happened.
He hadn’t expected to be travelling next to his old friend Pyro, having carried the unconscious fire mutant aboard the jet, set him on the floor and slid down next to him. Grasping John’s jacket to try and hold him in place and avoid the ride causing any more damage. After a while he’d placed an iced up hand on the other mutant’s forehead in hopes it would help ease something, guilt settling in that Pyro still hadn’t stirred but what else could Bobby have done in the heat of the fight?
Back at the mansion he’d deposited Pyro in the medical bay and gone about doing whatever he could elsewhere to help deal with the fallout of the battle, all while doing his best to bury what he felt himself. His thoughts hadn’t strayed far from his former friend especially with the occasional comment from others questioning why the pyrokinetic was even here at all, finally leading Bobby back to see if he’d woken up.John Allerdyce

Just heard of the place, well that could mean anything. Exactly what kind of things the visitor had heard could determine whether or not the fairly lighthearted welcome should continue or if he should instead be leading her elsewhere. Bobby contented himself in the thought he could handle any problems that arose and bolstered his confidence with the hope the rest of the team probably already knew someone had arrived.“A bit of both, I’ve been around for a long while so I’m part of the furniture now.” He offered a borderline goofy laugh and gave her a quick glance over. She was pretty in that sharp and steely sort of way, but looks could be deceiving and he knew it was more important to discover her purpose here. “But I kinda work here these days, a little mentoring, a little math. Not many fans of that last one though but what can you do!” He left it at that for the time being and returned more questions her way.“Do you want something to drink?” He was already backing up in the direction of the nearest kitchen only a short way along the hall, with a gesture for her to follow but didn’t take his eyes off her. “What have you heard about us that’s enough to bring you down here?” Lorna Dane

While the school was always welcoming and appeared so in most ways to the naked eye there were precautions put in place long ago that still remained, along with various alternative ways that they might detect a stranger or anything else incoming, for the most part. It wasn’t as though they’d never been taken by surprise, far from it. Today, nobody had alerted him to anything strange and if anybody else happened to be observing in some way, Bobby had no idea there was a visitor.
Not until he turned a corner along one of the hallways and collided with a younger mutant hurrying in the opposite direction. A student who although small happened to have the solidity of a rock, so that the impact was unfairly one-sided when they ran into him. “Woah, slow down! No… running in the hallways.” His trailing reprimand fell flat since many did just that and quite often. He had done so himself.
Only once he turned to continue on his way did he spot the stranger. “Oh, hey! I don’t think I've seen you before. Are you here to meet with somebody?”Lorna Dane

Character Basics
.:Name of Character:. Robert 'Bobby' Louis Drake
.:Species:. Mutant
.:Alias:. Iceman
.:Affiliation:. X-Men
Appearance
.:Physical Appearance:.
Bobby stands at 5'11, with short-ish blonde-brown hair and icey blue eyes. He has a pretty lean physique partially down to how active he is most of the time. He has a few minor scars from various adventures when he was younger, but the most prominent is a four-inch scar on his right knee, which he got when he was eleven from falling off his skateboard during a more adventurous stunt.
Clothing-wise, he usually opts for comfortable short-sleeved shirts or baseball style shirts, whatever it is it’ll often be blue of one shade or another although he does have plenty of alternatives; those are just his favorites along with a few hoodies too. Any pants he wears are equally of the comfortable kind or otherwise, he’ll have board shorts on along with sneakers. Bobby’s all about comfort on this matter and not too bothered about being at the height of fashion.
.:Height:. 5'11 .:Portrayed by:. Shawn Ashmore Personality .:Personality:.Dedicated / Playful / Good-hearted /Troubled While Bobby hasn’t lost his playful side, it was much more obvious when he was younger before his mutation manifested, but it wasn’t the only reason he became a little more serious, with his parents’ unstable marriage having a significant impact even before his powers became apparent. Most of the time, he’s outwardly calm and fairly in control although he can lose his temper if pushed too far but it’s rare and he usually regrets it. He’s level-headed and friendly, proud of his ability despite still struggling to accept that not everybody sees it as a gift, particularly his family and he’s under no illusions about the problems mutations can cause in reality. While he attempts to always be honest with others where possible, he’s not always honest with himself. .:Powers/Abilities:.CryokinesisBobby’s able to generate and alter ice and snow, controlling it how he chooses by manipulating moisture in the air. There’s no need for him to physically form the ice with his hands, he merely directs waves of cold in a way that achieves his aim, but imagination is always at play too. ThermokinesisHe can manipulate thermal energy, able to control the temperature in his surroundings and more rapidly his own temperature, internally and externally. His mutation means he’s immune to such cold temperatures and bodily organs and tissues will remain unaffected by the intensity. He can also handle hot temperatures largely thanks to this thermokinesis, but he’ll still usually stay away from any kind of sauna or hot tub and the like. The culmination of these abilities allow Bobby to create an ice armor or change his form entirely to ice by lowering his body temperature, causing the moisture close to his body to turn to ice, forming an ice shell that covers him and grants increased endurance and strength. When transforming his body to a complete organic ice form this also gives him a high level of resistance to destruction while in such a form. .:Weaknesses:.Cryokinesis — Lack of moisture is Bobby’s main weakness regarding his mutation, impacting how effective he can be as well as how much effort it takes to use his powers. He requires it to use his mutation, but the less moisture, the harder time he’ll have and the more energy he’ll need to expend to achieve his aims. Strength/Resilience — While he’s in human form, (no ice form or ice armor) he has normal human strength for someone of his age, build and activity levels. He’s vulnerable to harm in the same way most humans would be while in his normal form. History .:Birthplace:. Boston, Massachusetts .:Family:. Father - William Drake, Mother - Madeline Drake, Brother - Ronnie Drake .:Occupation:. Student/active member of the X-Men .:Current Location of Residence:. New York .:History:.Bobby’s younger years were happy enough and he and his family led what seemed like a normal life, but as he approached his early teens he began to grow more aware of his parents’ bickering and the general unpleasant mood that loomed over the household, no matter how much his mother in particular tried to gloss over the reality of it all. With his home life becoming increasingly unsteady along with changes he was experiencing himself, Bobby began to feel oddly cold at times, these occasions happening more and more frequently until it had reached the point that he couldn’t seem to get warm at all. As if the very core of him was frozen, yet he kept this to himself with the desperate hope that the sensation would disappear. Instead it grew worse and with his parents having a blazing argument one night, Bobby’s mutation finally manifested completely as he slammed his door to escape the row happening downstairs. Frost spreading out from where his hand was pressed to the wood and rapidly covering the entire door and out to the walls within his room. Terrified, he came close to calling out for his parents but the ice subsided as quickly as it had appeared, leaving a stunned and shivering Bobby curled in the corner of his bedroom with no idea what was happening to him. It was not too long after that he was enrolled in Xavier’s School under the pretense that it was a prep school as far as his parents were concerned, but the secret of his mutation eventually came out when Bobby, John, Rogue and Logan were forced to take refuge at his parents house following an attack on the mansion. They didn’t take it well and the events that followed led to Bobby becoming more estranged and distant from his family than ever before. Bobby eventually became a fully fledged member of the X-Men, fighting alongside his fellow mutants in whatever way was needed, sadly sometimes against other mutants. He both gained and lost friends but remained loyal to the X-Men and their cause, sharing in it with them in hopes of a better future. Member Info .:Name or Online Alias:.
