Wanda clapped her hands, closing her eyes as the rhythm of the music washed over her, a half a century of life and she still felt the need to dance, to shimmy and become one with the beat of the music, it pulsed inside of her, needing to escape. A rueful chuckle escaped her, no one wanted to see a 51 year old woman belly dancing in a bar in New Orleans. She shook her head smile still on her lips, as she stood putting down four times what her drink had cost, the bartender had the look of a girl who had seen too much behind her flirty eyes. And Wanda was always too empathic to women trapped in this sort of life, she nodded to the girl as she left. Wanda noticed the pack of boys that had split off from the bar as she left following her, she sighed slightly to herself, her own fault for flashing that amount of money, she turned a corner into an alley if this was going to turn violent she didn't want to make a larger scene. "You don't want to do this boys." she said softly turning to face them, world weary sadness in her expression. "Just give us your money and jewelry and we'll let you go." he smirked, reaching to grab her arm. Wanda had no attachment to the items and was about to give them up when he grabbed her. Forty years from the life were she had no choice about who touched her, and his not so innocent grip pushed rage. "Let. Me. Go." she warned, biting the words out. Tiny scarlet sparks flowing down her red tipped nails. "Its a fucking Mutie! Get her!" the others yelled swarming.

The night was busy. Exactly how Anna liked it. The door opened and let in a thick gust of air that was hot and heavy, ripe with humidity. Inside the bar, it was cold and dry with cold drinks being served up round the clock. Anna was behind the counter as usual and making drink orders as fast as she could.
A woman had set down a stack of cash to pay for her tricks and upon picking it up and examining it, noticed it was far too generous of a tip.
Waving the money, Anna called after the woman. "Miss?! Ah think ya left too much!" The woman left the bar without hearing her call after her. Sure, she needed all the money she could get now that she was on her own, but never did Anna want to take advantage of someone's kindness.
Moving through the crowd of people, it took her some time to get to the door through the sea of people. The door opened and Anna slipped past the people who were entering.
"Anna! Get back here! Ya got drinks ta make!"
"Ah'm takin' a fifteen, boss! Ah'll be back!"
Her boss took her place behind the counter and started serving up drinks as Anna left the bar, only to see the woman being grabbed. Sparks were flying...
"Oh mah stars..." A mutant? Cured or not, Anna didn't stand for anti mutant violence. It still made her angry. Instead of addressing the men, she charged head on at the man who was grabbing the woman and slammed her shoulder into him.

Probability manipulation, Chaos magic. Wanda was forever amused at how her mutation chose to keep her safe when unleashed directionless, in this case it had some how contrived to bring that sweet girl from the bar to her erstwhile rescue, but of course the good came with the bad. Wanda grunted as the girl's peduo tackle pushed the fool kid into her breaking her concentration for a half second as pain flared in her wrist were it was being bent at an unnatural angle against her chest.
Which was of course when her mutation when wild, the tallest of the bunch was just pulling out a gun "Fucking Bit-" his curse became a howl of pain as the gun discharged before it cleared his side. A youngster was attempting to stab Wanda, the blade skittinging over her belt buckle, to embed itself in her main attacker in a act blatantly defiant of the laws of chance.
Wanda winced hearing the meaty sound as the knife found its new home, she hated it when she lost control, she was not exactly a pacifist but she believed everyone deserved a chance. Her hand currently not being pinned to her chest chopped down causing the boy to drop the knife still inside his friend. "Dont move!" she ordered sharply more concerned about the 'child' infront of her then her own safety.
Wanda placed her hand over the entry wound intentionally calling on her gift this time to bend the universe to the best outcome for the boy, his autonomic responses acting a thousand times faster then they would have naturally. There was still one more boy on his feet, but she would deal with him in a moment.

It was difficult to tell where weapons where and weren't. Anna slammed into one of the men, the one that was holding the woman and propelled him in to the ground. The wind was knocked right out of her and she looked up to see the knife planted in one of the men.
Oh shit. This was an armed assault. While Anna was skilled at fighting, armed combat was still dangerous for her. On the ground, she pushed herself back up and noticed the man she took down originally was back up.
"Lady! Ya better run away from this place before the M word starts getting thrown around, ya hear me? Ah can handle the rest."
It wasn't the first time Anna dealt with messes involving some of her patrons. Her boss knew the crowd well. Most of them were trouble makers which was why the cops were usually on speed dial. But they had never had a mutant incident before. They were likely to become more out of control than a typical bar brawl.
"He looks like he's in shock." Anna watched as the woman did something to him. That wasn't going to stop her from helping. She cupped the man's face and looked into his eyes. "Hey, listen to me. You're gonna be fine. Just listen to mah voice. Hang on to it. Inhale.... Good.... Exhale... Very good. Keep focused on me, Sugah."
Anna turned to look at the woman, panic in her eyes. "Ah hope ya have something hat can help him or this gon git real messy."

Wanda sighed as the other boys ran, "My bag." she still had her hand on the boys side, as she reached for her purse. Long experience had her always with a small field kit on her. "It will be ok." she smiled reassuringly for both the boy and girl "Im a doctor." The boy in her arms struggled against the women "Let me go you mutie bitches!" Wanda shook his head "Oh just shut up." she said tiredly, deftly packing the wound, "Do you have a phone?" she asked the girl. Her hands were stained with his blood, infection didn't worry her, her gifts forcing that chance near null. The boy kept struggling against them.
Wanda tried not to roll her eyes, sometimes she saw where her father was coming from "Hold still!" she ordered again. "We need to-" she cut her self off with a swear as he passed out. "Get him to a hospital, call an ambulance." she finished. Wanda was not looking forward to this, she actually had a small life here, and getting attention was not part of her plans. "Damn it." she muttered, half wishing she could just leave the boy with the girl.
Wanda blinked for a moment looking at her "Thank you by the way."

Anna rolled her eyes at the boy. "Really? Ya are bleeding out and mutie bitch is all you can say?" Anna slapped him upside the head. The kid needed some manners. Him and his friends were the one assaulting the woman. She defended herself and the only reason he was bleeding was because he couldn't leave well enough alone. "Ah have a mind to just let ya die here, but your life ain't in mah hands and neither is your fate. So you shut your trap and accept the graciousness of this here lady, and show some gratitude before ah convince her to go elsewhere with me and have a drink while we leave you here to die in the alley of a bar. Ya hear me, boy?!"
Manners. Fuck. Even Magneto had them. Anna was human now and it really bothered her that humans were usually the ones without manners. Way to give her kind a bad rep.
Anna nodded to the woman. "Ah can call from inside. Ah don't have mah phone on me." Anna slipped an arm around the boy and looked to the woman. "Ah can do that. Ya better get going before police get here. The law isn't fond of mutants. Ah can't do much to protect you from law enforcement, miss."

Wanda nearly laughed as the bartender hit her attacker upside the head and scolded his bad manners, ah well breed southern women...she quirked a smile, the girl was so sweet, she had had better luck then many of her kind in dealing with humans but still.
"Ah can call from inside. Ah don't have mah phone on me." Wanda suppressed a groan she never carried a cell, to easy to track. "Are you sure you are going to be ok with him alone?" she asked helping the girl shoulder the idiot boy. He was already mostly passed out. "Ah can do that. Ya better get going before police get here. The law isn't fond of mutants. Ah can't do much to protect you from law enforcement, miss." My goodness isn't this the most darling girl? she smiled softly at the bar tender. "Thank you dear."
A few hours later Wanda was waiting on the street across from the bar waiting for her to get off shift. "Hello again." she smiled gratefully, "I wanted to make sure you got home alright, and those boys didn't have friends."

Anna pulled the boy's arm around her shoulder. She might have looked small but what there was of her was lean and fit. She'd helped Logan a few times in Danger Room missions, so she was no stranger to assisting a full weighted man. "Ah got this. Please, go!" Men were such babies. Beat up on a helpless woman and they're kings of the world. Get one little stab wound and they were too proud to accept help until they passed out. Anna remembered what being stabbed felt like. Wolverine put three claws right through her sternum. She looked down at her chest, remembering the sensation but seeing no scars. They had healed with the healing ability she had absorbed from him.
What would Logan say to her being here in a place like this? Thriving with bikers and drunkards who only hit on their servers every night... She was a grown woman now. She could handle herself... Even if she did miss the man doting on her like she was his own kid. If anyone understood her need to wander and find herself, it was him.
Biting down on her lip, Anna dragged the man back to the bar and kicked the door open. "Get an ambulance!"
Her boss ran from behind the counter and helped her shoulder the man until he was at a chair. She knelt before him, holding her hand to his wound.
"What happened?!"
"These guys started getting rowdy on each other and one pulled out a knife. Ah tried to stop 'em!"...
It was later in the evening now, and help had come and gone. Anna was ordered home early, but she insisted on closing the place up. She argued it would keep her mind off of things and keep her busy with positive thoughts, though she did have to change out of her bloodied shirt into a bar t-shirt. She locked up and headed outside to walk home when she saw the woman from earlier. She became startled, eyes like a deer in headlights when the voice spoke to her. "Oh mah lord!... It's just you. Ya scared the daylight outta me." She knew she had nothing to fear from the woman. She would have harmed Anna if the wanted to already.
"Ah'm sorry about all that back there. Ah have personal experience with people being closed minded to mutants."

"Oh mah lord!... It's just you. Ya scared the daylight outta me."
Wanda stepped into the pool of light cast by a street lamp, "Not my intention, I wanted to stay out of view incase those boys or their friends came back."
"Ah'm sorry about all that back there. Ah have personal experience with people being closed minded to mutants." Wanda paused, Really? the girl didn't seem like a mutant, but perhaps she had a sibling? As Wanda grew older her powers also unfolded further, giving her what she liked to say was the ability to see the weaknesses of fate surrounding people. Her eyes unfocused, Oh....one of the cured..
She could see where the girl's natural mutation was being suppressed, Wanda wondered if she was one of the ones that had it done intentionally or if she was an unwilling convert. "Let me buy you a coffee?" she offered wanting to get to know the girl more. "I know a lovely pastriesshop a few blocks over that does the best hot cross buns. And the ovens are just starting now." she smiled enticingly. "After all its the least I can do for my savior."

Anna took a second to catch her breath with a hand pressed to her chest. Honestly, she looked a little ridiculous in the oversized shirt. Tips had still been good though. Something about being a bartender and being heroic to the man with the stab wound seemed to catch the attention of her patrons and since she refused to go home early, it got her even more attention during the evening. Tips had stacked up thick and the money was packed up and tucked into her back jean pocket.
"Ah can't believe you're still here." She really should have taken off and gone home, but instead, she had stayed to check up on the woman woman from the bar. "Ah appreciate ya stickin' around but ah still say it ain't safe in these parts for ya. Are you all alone or is someone at home waiting for ya?" Did she have a home? Or was she like Anna and a vagrant, finding a home wherever she could. Maybe she could refer her to the school... It had been a while since she thought of the school. She missed Bobby and Logan... Piotr and Jubilee, Kurt... It was nights like this that she especially felt lonely. But this was how it had to be... She was human. She just didn't belong in their world anymore. How long before she was killed for sticking around and trying to fit in with people who were special?
"Oh ah don't drink coffee... Tea? Ah love tea with honey if that's an alright substitute." Anna never understood people and their addiction to coffee. It was bitter and Bleh. Tea was water with herbs and with lemon and honey, hit the spot perfectly.

Tea? of course it would be tea.. a flicker of sadness washed over her face, remembering all the tea time's she had shared with Charles. Wanda couldn't help the small smile at the girl's continued concern for her wellbeing, asking after her home situation, carefully probing to see if she HAD a home. "I have a flat up in Lake Bullard." She said naming a higher class district. "But no, no one is waiting for me." she cocked her head "What about you?" Wanda took the girl's hand wrapping it around her elbow in a friendly fashion, heading off down the street. "Now, we can have that tea if you like." She had sworn off the beverage after leaving the mansion, too many memories. Wanda suppressed a yawn as they approached the bakery, she was getting up there for all nighters, but she had the feeling it would be worth it. Dawn was just breaking, it was that soft grey time in the morning when the air was filled with dew and promise. She couldn't stop the yawn this time, "Been a while since I have greeted the dawn." she chuckled. Wanda shook her head a rueful smile on her lips. "Getting old, Now." she said patting the girls hand "Whats your name dear?"

It was good to know the woman had a place to call home. Many mutant, young and old didn't have a home. Anna had a place to hang her hat at the end of the day, a place to kick off her muddied cowboy boots but... It was hardly home. They say home is where the heart it. And though she was born and raised in the south, Anna's heart had lingered behind in Westchester. She still longed for those people who accepted her regardless of an X-gene or not... But she would only get in their way... She was weak and had nothing to offer the X-Men. She was a school teacher at best, and not a very good one.
When she left the mansion, she had left behind what Marie use to be. Her time on the road had allowed her to blossom into a brave and kind young woman, and yet in proper situations, that sass was still there.
The woman fastened her arm around Miss D'Ancanto's and the two began their idle walk. "Ah'm on mah own... For a while." It sounded odd. "Rough break up." Sorta. Well, it was kinda true. Her relationship with Robert Drake was a thing of the past. Not only was he out of her life, but so were the people she had gone to school with for years. "But Ah'm fine on mah own. Ah think ah do better. Lone wolf syndrome, ya know?"
Anna watched the woman yawn and chuckled. "It is kinda early. The bar don't close until three am, gal. Ya sure you're up for an early morning tea?"
"Oh mah, all this excitement tonight and ah've forgotten mah manners. Ah'm Anna."

"Ah'm on mah own... For a while. Rough break up."Poor thing, no wonder she seems sad... "But Ah'm fine on mah own. Ah think ah do better. Lone wolf syndrome, ya know?"
Wanda wondered if that were true, or if she was just hiding her pain behind a mask, trying to convince herself that being alone was what she wanted. Wanda smothered a chuckle, self aware enough to be amused at her own thoughts. Are you talking about her, or yourself? When Anna checked that it was alright for her to be out so late/early Wanda merely waved a hand. "Oh mah, all this excitement tonight and ah've forgotten mah manners. Ah'm Anna.""Wanda...Wanda Bedi." she only used her Western name these days. Ashni had died on a lab table decades ago. Wanda opened the door to the bakery for them both, a happy little bell announcing their entrance. "August?" she called out, sitting down at one of the two little tables near the window. The smells of warm bread, coffee and sweet things being created filled the air. "The usual for me, and a Tea with honey for the lady." She told the lanky red head when he appeared. "He makes the most wonderful Neapolitans, and god knows i need the sugar right now. But if you would prefer something else?" Once Anna had ordered and their drinks had come she leaned back in her chair. "Why did you help me? Not many humans would, not once you saw what I was." She said still playing ignorance. Wanda spoke openly August was not only a friend but a mutant, they were safe there for now.

They entered the establishment.
This was a nice change compared to the typical nights she usually had. Heading home alone to read or lounge about until her eyes just couldn't stay open anymore was becoming the norm. She had no complaints about that, but having someone to chat with was nice, aside from the men that typically tried to pick her up at the end of the night. Anna had nothing against dating. But right now, she had a lot to accomplish before even thinking of it. That and these men weren't interested in her, just what she might do for them for one night. Yes, she was able to touch now, but one nighters and drunken flings were not up her alley.
Wanda seemed to know the place well, well enough to call the staff and address them by name. She joined her at the table while Wanda requested their preferred drinks. "Oh no, nothing else for me. Thank you."
The woman got comfortable and so did she. Anna hadn't had company at a cafe in months. It was strange but welcome. At least she knew for a fact that Wanda would make eye contact instead of eyeing her up and down like her regulars did. "Ah know how it feels. That use to be me a while ago. Ya did nothing wrong. If it was you that attacked those men, ah would have stood up to ya just the same. Human, mutant, doesn't matter. Whoever' the good person'll be gettin' mah help." The teachings of Charles Xavier was strong in Rogue. It wasn't about mutant brethren. It was about ethics, doing the right thing. Helping Wanda was the right thing. "Being ganged up on ain't right. Ah won't stand for it outside mah bar."

"Use to be you?" She probed gently wondering again if it had been voluntary or not. Wanda took a bite of her sinfully sweet treat, sighing slightly "Your moral's do your parents proud." she watched Anna from under her eyelashes, "I would like to know more about my savior if she doesn't mind." Wanda said in a amused almost flirting tone of voice. She was not interested in Anna in that way, or any woman really, but the habits of her youth were hard to shake, especially when she was exhausted.
Wanda had already resolved to befriend the girl, she was only planning on being in the city for another two week at most finishing up the details of the small clinic she was building. Wanda had created a network of them, around the world, a neutral counter point between the X-men and the Brotherhood. A safe haven for mutants that were either still 'passing' to get treatment, or for ones in danger to run to. The children she would inevitably end up sending to Charles in most cases, a few adults that had seen too much, been hurt too badly she would try and set them up either working for her or in other 'safe' jobs.
Wanda sighed, it was getting harder and harder to keep anyone safe, with Charles missing, and the X-men decapitated with the loss of Scott and Jean, her father and Raven also missing there mutations...
The world was getting scarier for people like her, and every day more countries enacted mutant registration laws, making it harder to hide even the mutants that did not have physical manifestations.

Anna scoffed at the mention of her parents. They were the people who should have loved and protected her the most. Instead, she was a freak to them. She was just a mutant, a statistic, something at someone needed to take the blame for. The fighting that occurred when her power surfaced... Priscilla and Owen just had to be right about who was to blame. They had a happy marriage up until that moment when their perfect family was ruined by the X-gene. They didn't say it out loud, but since neither of them were mutants, they only blamed Marie. Owen had even accused Marie of not being his daughter. When finding out that her own father was ready to turn her in for attempted murder of the boy she had kissed, Marie packed up the little she needed, the savings she had and never looked back. But someone better had come along. When he said he would look out for her and take care of her, he meant it. And he did. Too many times had he come to rescue her when she was just a kid. Logan was all he parent she needed when she was still at that young and impressionable age. "What would ya like to know? There's nothin' special about me. Really!" The sad part was that she actually believed that. With her mutation, she was no one special. As a human, again, she was no one special. Just a southern girl trying to make her path.
"Ah tend bar to make rent. Didn't go to college or anythin'... Ah did some traveling with a friend when ah was a kid. This friend, he was real special. He was more of a father to me than mah birth parents. But hey, they kept me alive for fourteen years. Logan kept me alive and taught me a whole lot about how to swing a nasty left hook. He might be rough round the edges but, ya would like him. He wouldn't admit it, but he's a real gent. And he wouldn't stand for what just happened back there at the bar either. Gotta admit though, he's a lot more ferocious than ah could ever be." Anna fidgeted a bit. She wasn't use to talking about herself. Most people who came up to her talked about themselves or what they would do to her. She shuddered at some of the ideas that her regulars got when it came to her. But hey, they paid her well, so she could deal.
"Enough about me. What's your name? Ah mean, ah know ya just told me it's Wanda, but what's your code name. Sparky? Ah was never any good with those names, Ah'm so glad people came up with their own." Logan came with Wolverine, and Bobby was ready Iceman. If she was asked to pick their mutant names for them, she would have come up with something totally lame like Ice Bucket or Frosty.

Wanda's heart went out to the girl Fourteen...just when she would have started presenting her powers.. It was clear she had left home at that point. And had fallen in with another mutant Logan? I wonder...could it be? She had met the Wolverine a few times in her life. She shook her head, clearly no one had made this girl feel special, ever. Not with how she was referring to her self, Anna very obviously thought that she had nothing interesting about her. And Wanda already had poof that it was simply not true.
Her mutant name...god another bitter sweet memory. "Scarlet Witch." she said quietly. "My father named me." the only thing he had given her, and even then it had been years before they knew their true relationship. If Anna knew Logan... "Logan...I don't suppose that would be a feral, code named Wolverine?" she asked wondering, because if so then Anna might have already met Charles and the X-men, which mean she might not be so...happy to know who Wanda's father was, regardless of how their current relationship was.
Wanda took Anna's hand. "Sweetie, you are special, not because of who you use to be. But because of the woman you are, of the choices you make." she smiled softly. "I have only known you a few hours but I am sure of it already. Do you have a dream?" she asked. Because if she did, well Wanda had resources, and spending them on a girl that needed a little boost, either in ego or money? It was something she would enjoy doing.

In the light, it was easier to see. If Wanda paid enough attention, she would notice the scar on Anna's right hand, right on her palm. It was a burn mark. That burn had been her breaking point, the catalyst that sent her from the people she cared about to go and find herself find her worth, find her place in the world. She couldn't stay with the X-Men. She would have only gotten in the way.
It sounded like a sappy 90's love ballad.
"If I should stay, we both know I'd be in your way..."
How could she be a burden to those people? Having a house full of mutants and then one human teaching... It as trouble waiting to happen. What if a man like Stryker raided the school again? One human woman against a team of soldiers wasn't going to be efficient. They would just end up killing her. Logan would blame himself for anything that happened to her. She just couldn't do that to him, to them. They were good people.
"Why Scarlet Witch? Ah saw the red sparks but... Ah don't quite understand the witch part." She didn't look like a witch. And she certainly didn't act like one. And then she dropped a familiar name. "You know Wolverine?" Logan never mentioned the woman before... But Logan was also older than dirt and he had most of his memories lost. Anna wondered if she could fit some of the pieces of his last by asking this woman. She knew he would be thrilled to hear something, anything that could give him an idea of what his last was like.
When Wanda took her hand, Anna chuckled. "Oh stop, there's no need to fuss over me. Honest, Ah'm just a bartender tryin tah find mah place in life. Maybe it's here or maybe it's somewhere else. But ah'll never know unless ah look." Anna frowned and sat back. A dream? She never really thought about it. Dreams ended when she hit the road on her own when she was fourteen. And she did live her dream. She got to travel, just like she originally wanted. But what was the dream now? Anna had no powers now. Rogue and Marie were figures of the past. So what was the next step? Forming relationships. Friends... And maybe one day... Someone special who didn't know about her past and what she was, who she was... Someone that would just run wild with her. "Ah just... Ah dunno, no ones ever asked me what mah dream was. Isn't life enough?"

"My mutation, I cause luck..bad luck originally, I grew up in a very old world I thought I was a witch." she smiled answering Anna's question about her mutant name. "Casting evil eye." she flicked her fingers out at Anna with a grin. When she confirmed that she was talking about that Logan Wanda nodded knowingly, "I met him a few times in my life, mostly in passing. But he does seem like a honorable man."
Her grin started turning into a frown as Anna made it clear she had never (Or had she stopped?) had a dream. Wanda kept running her fingers over Anna's hand seeing the burn scar wondering about the story behind it. Wanda always had a weakness for lost girls. Just living life? Yes it was a way to go forward but...it seemed sad for such a young woman. "If you could do anything, be anything, have anything. What would it be?" she asked, curious and wondering if the girl had any imagination, any desires left. Or if they had been burned out by the cruel world.
Wanda no longer had any dreams of a family or someone special to call her own, but if she could give that dream, help another woman...she wanted to have that second hand joy.

Anna smiled. Wanda seemed to be wonderful luck. She had seen more violent mutations, ones like her own, in the world. Luck wasn't so bad."Ah'm sure it was fear that fueled the bad." It was never confirmed but Anna believed she had the same problem with her mutation. It could be controlled. Here had to be a way... But fear got the best of her. Fear slid its tentacles around her and kept her from ever reaching out. She was terrified to practice control on anyone after the day Bobby kissed her at his parents house. The look in his eyes, the way she shoved her away when she started to extracts his powers and his memories... It broke her heart. She had been scarred that day in a way that made her never want to try again. She knew from that day, she had to leave him. Otherwise, he would leave her instead. No relationship without touch was salvageable. It just wasn't possible.
Anna pulled her morale out of the drain at the mention of Logan. When she was just a little teen, she was so fond of him. Fond enough that she had the most darling crush on the man for months. He was the one who always came through for her, always checking on her, always there to catch her, lend a hand, and lead her through the dark. Now more than ever, she looked back on him as the most important role model in her life. She would not be Rogue without him and his influence. God, she missed him. She could already hear him grumble. "Kid, when are you coming home?" She chuckled. She'd give anything to hug him right now. "He's a great guy and anyone who tells ya different is prolly so done who got his ass kicked by him." Sure, Logan wasn't a saint, but hell, neither was she. And she wouldn't have it any other way.
What had Anna and Rogue and Marie all wanted... They were a part of each other. There wasn't a time when one person completely understood all of her. Every single skeleton in the closet, every dark corner of her mind, every secret buried... It was exhausting fitting in. So she didn't. She was just herself now. She thought for a moment. Wanda didn't seem like she was going to let the subject go. Anna bit down on her bottom lip. "Ah just wanna be. Wild. Free... And maybe someday, run wild and free with someone who gets me. All of me." It was a big dream... But Wanda asked. If she hadn't, maybe the dream never would have been realized.
